I agree, what a great idea. Is it possible to mod things like this? You'd need some way of dynamically setting triggers that would cause custom pop-ups after a certain number of turns... I know you modder types can tinker endlessly with stats through XML, but how moddable is the UI itself?

This definitely needs to be fixed. Nothing in the game is more annoying right now than these useless notifications. You might as well have a pop-up that says "something in your empire has been destroyed... somewhere." It would do about as much good. I hope resolving this has made its way onto the To Do list for beta 5.
Ceresa would also be my guess, but I suppose only time will tell...
@ddd888: There are plenty of strong, powerful spells in the game. It's just that we don't see the AI using them! Aside from buffs like Stoneskin and whatnot, magic has never been a serious threat to me in any battle. The static blast ability of the air shrills is the most dangerous thing I routinely have to worry about. I would love to see the AI throwing around some serious spells. Hopefully that aspect of tactical battles will continue to improve up to release. It would be neat if the wi
Consider it duly noted, Kongdej. That's exactly the behavior I experienced! It does make planning the battle difficult until the turn bar snaps back to normal.
Yes, I've noticed this too. Lady Irane apparently gets +50 initiative on the first turn, then it settles down to normal on the second turn.
I wondered if maybe that was the case, but if so, it seems like a rather clunky way to implement that trait. Surely the devs could come up with a more elegant way of doing it, even if it means hard-coding special behavior into the tactical combat code.

And possibly he could spawn waves of Ophidians from the edges of the crevice if he wouldn't be able to make an attack, although they'd need to have their XP disabled to avoid being farmed. He just doesn't feel particularly epic for an Elemental Lord.
Spawning waves of ophidians is a great idea. It would also help if Abeix had some kind of ranged attack. I noticed he has a trait that supposedly lets him spit aci
In this game I was playing as Lady Irane of Tarth, on a small map with difficulty set to Challenging. My opponents: Emperor Karavox, Oracle Ceresa, and Queen Procipinee. Ceresa was killed on turn 1 (she must have gotten a terrible starting position, right next to a bear perhaps). So I figured that's OK, more room to expand and explore. With the Master Scouts ability I was able to rapidly expand my empire since monsters were no concern, and before long I had 4 thriving cities. Then
And going back to dragons, how about this: a band of thieves has stolen a cache of sculpted gold dragon eggs from the Guild of Magic, hoping to sell them for a tidy profit. What they don't know is that the eggs are real, and have been enchanted with a magical spell of awakening in case of just such an event. The Guild Master implores you to track down the thieves and retrieve the stolen eggs before they start to hatch...
@Heavenfall: late game events caused by dominating could make sense if they fit well into the gameworld and the lore. Agreed, it would feel cheap if a bunch of dragons simply popped into existence for no reason. But what if there was some nice setup? Not sure if events can be chained together, but how about this: you get a pop-up explaining that there is an ancient evil waking in the land, and a crumbling mountain stronghold once thought dead and dormant is again showing signs of life. 10 tu
Awesome. Random events are a great way to keep the game interesting. Just one request: would it be possible to increase their frequency? I keep hearing about these neat random events, but I've never seen one! I'd like to be guaranteed at least 1 random event per game. And I love the idea of power based triggers. If I'm dominating the AI in the late game, it would be thrilling to have some massive, epic event disrupt my game plan, such as a portal opening to another world and a Titan comes
Yes please, this is sorely needed.
@StevenAus: it is in fact a monkey, but make what you will of the musical instrument. And I'd happily sing for the frog if that's what it would take to bump this issue to the top of their bug list. :-)
Seems to me this save corruption & crashing bug is the biggest problem with FE at this point. I never had this problem with the earlier betas, but try 1 game of beta 4 and there it is. I've already reported the issue myself along with the corrupted save game file and crash dump: https://forums.elementalgame.com/429743 I'm really hoping this gets fixed with beta 5. As awesome as FE is (and it's fast becoming
I like the conversation options idea in concept, and that potential is certain already in the game, although I'm not sure if some of the examples you mocked up are completely valid. This is just nitpicking, mind you, but wouldn't the outcome for "Please don't hurt me", and "taste Steel" with the bandit be the same (combat)?
You're probably right. I just wanted to give an idea of what typical re
I hope it wont be useless conversation, I didn't like CIV 5's useless 3 options to answer people, and the AI didn't care whatever you chose anyways.
I agree, the option you choose should have consequences. The AI should react differently depending on what you say. I was thinking that for new faction meetings, your response would determine the AI's initial feelings towards you (positive, neutral
So does anyone else think this pop-up is boring? Meeting a new faction should be exciting, but this is kind of a letdown: I only have 1 option to click on! It's basically a big OK button. I want different options, maybe something like this mock-up: Choosing a conversation option would cause
I've only played one game of beta 4 so far, and I could not finish it because of the save corruption issue. Medium map, 5 AIs, normal difficulty. Save game got corrupted around turn 170 and I gave up on it.
I really like your ideas for making the city specialization have a greater impact with more meaningful level-ups. I hope the devs are not daunted by the length of your post! Also, random events need to have a greater chance of occurring. In all my games, I've never even seen a single random event.
Yes, I've experienced something almost exactly like this! It makes me feel a little better to know other people are also having this issue. The more of us report it, the higher up the devs' priority list it will go, hopefully. For me the CTD fun started happening when I tried to save my game on turn 173. This was on a medium map, just after I forced Gilden to surrender. More than 50% of the map was revealed and I think I controlled around 11 cities. Like you, I have a pretty decent machine
I think this is one case of player and AI being treated equally. In my first game of beta 4, I conquered an AI city that was close to a dragon. The dragon stayed put until my ZOC expanded to include it, and then the beast began to wander around the outskirts of my city. But it never did attack my lightly defended city. Eventually (maybe after 30 turns or so) it went off and destroyed one of my outposts, and then I never saw it again. I think I remember reading somewhere that most monsters t
I've also been having save game issues. For me, my saved game loaded fine, but FE crashes when I try to save it again. Already filed a separate bug report about it here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/429743
So I was really enjoying my first game of beta 4 on Normal difficulty with a medium map. I played maybe 8 or 9 hours total over the weekend, saving and reloading several times during different play sessions, and had no trouble at all. Then today I loaded up my game, played a few turns, went to save it, and CRASH! This is what I got: Naturally I re-loaded the game and attempted to save it aga
I'm pretty sure "String Not Found" is not a valid spell category. Perhaps the xml for the definition of this spell is missing something?
