I voted Good. Beta 4 is another huge step forward, great job Stardock! This game gets better with every iteration. It has a ton of strategic depth now. The new city mechanics are really fun. I find myself thinking a lot about what role each city will take as it develops, and I love that I never run out of things to build. In beta 3 I often found myself thinking "hmmm... what to do with this city now?". But not so in beta 4! There are only a co
Tactical - The whole not letting the player always get the first turn thing is bugged and not working. The AI is acting in ways that make no sense, like only moving one space multiple turns in a row. It still even lets me get first strike even with units with much higher movement then me!
I was just about to create a post about this but see you've beaten me to it. I appreciate what the AI is trying to do, but it doesn't seem
Glad you like it Kongdej. I spent a couple days writing it out and tweaking bits before I posted it. It was hard to get some of the sections to rhyme. Hopefully the devs will get a kick out of it too, something to give them a laugh after working so hard and putting in so many long hours on the beta.
Thought I'd give this a bump in honor of the impending release of beta 4. I've cleared my weekend schedule so I'm ready for a serious bit of beta testing! Can't wait to get my hands on beta 4 and see what the city improvements are like. Also, I hope we get another huge change log to drool over. That'll tide me over until I get home from work. It's gonna be hard to sleep tonight, feels like Christmas Eve!
I would also pay a dollar for terrain bonus DLC. It would be cool to receive defensive bonuses for hiding behind different types of cover (Warhammer 40K, anyone?). But the tactical maps would have to be re-designed to make such a feature meaningful and interesting. I imagine having my archers take pot shots at the foe from behind ruined, crumbling walls. And my wizards could duck behind fallen logs or giant boulders while they work their magic.
Back in the days of 0.91 and 0.912, I used to play on Challenging and won easily. So I bumped it up to Hard and barely held my own before eventually losing a war of attrition. In 0.915, I tried Challenging but the AI seems to have improved a lot, and I'm struggling again. The AI outpaces me in terms of troops and I keep falling behind until my cities finally get swarmed. So now I've gone back down to Normal, which feels about right. I can enjoy a good challenge without feeling like the game
You know, I bet you could do a lot of creative work on drugs. Just look at Jackson Pollock. You'd have to be high to come up with that crazy stuff (of course, you'd also have to be high to want to buy it).
Sorry this is a bit out of season, but I just couldn't help myself. Enjoy! Twas the night before Beta, when all through Stardock Not a creature was stirring, not even the Frog. The web server was silent, well-maintained with care, In hopes that Fallen Enchantress soon would be there. The developers were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Umberdroths danced in their heads. And Skittles in her 'kerchief, and Zubaz in his cap
The Malazan Book of the Fallen series is pretty good, and suitably long to keep you occupied for a while. Took me a whole year to read it. The story gets a bit too philosophical and meandering at times, so not quite as fast paced as Game of Thrones, but still worth a read.
Yeah, this has been annoying the heck out of me. Happens every game I play. Devs please fix it!
I played a game as Procipinee in 0.912, found a Berserker's Sword, boosted her accuracy to somewhere around 180, and went on a rampage. It's a totally overpowered weapon due to the maul ability. Nothing could stand against me. With that kind of accuracy I was landing so many hits in a row, I could take down drakes and death demons with a couple swings.
I remember seeing something similar in 0.912 where I would kill a champion and their "ghost" would remain on the map. Haven't had a chance to play 0.914 yet, though.
No Vehicular Movement?
Newbs Vastly overMatched?
No Votes for Magnar?
New Vindictive Monster?
I voted no. Multiplayer does not work well for TBS games and I would never try it. I'd rather the time be spent on cool add-ons for single player. I'd love to see a monster pack that adds new high-level monsters that are a challenge even for level 20 uber heroes. Or how about DLC that adds new wildlands. I'd pay a lot of money for stuff like that.
@hmsmiley: There's a spell that increases the movement of a hero's stack by +1 (forgot what it's called), and I've seen the AI use it a couple times, so it wouldn't be unheard of to see AI stacks moving 3 spaces at a time.
I am experiencing a reproducible crash in tactical battles. I'm playing as Pariden, and cast Shrink on an Umberdroth after the battle begins. Everything is fine up to the point where the Umberdroth dies. At that point, the program doesn't seem to realize that the tactical combat is over. The combat does not end, and I am unable to take any further actions. As you can see in this screen shot, the Umberdroth is still in the action list on the left side of t
I will definitely try the Goetia mod after FE is released. There are a few good mods shaping up, but I don't want to try them during the beta, as I'd like to keep my feedback as pure as possible. Mods would taint my impression of the main game. After release I will abandon all restraint and let slip the mods of war!
Nice play-by-play. I always enjoy reading these sorts of posts about game experiences. And good observations regarding randomness and the AI. I agree it would be awesome to have a spell that grows the fertile land. And conversely, I'd like to see one that destroys fertile land. How cool would it be to cripple strong enemy cities by destroying all their sources of food and materials?
Good God, people, tone it down already! So much bitterness! Methinks we need Magnar to step out of hiding and smite all the trolls with his flame darts. Stop dragging Frogboy through the mud when he doesn't deserve it. FE beta 3 is a HUGE improvement on the previous beta, and as Brad has stated time and time again, there are still months left until release. This is a time for congratulating Stardock on reaching the beta 3 milestone, and reflecting calmly on what still needs to be done. Giv
Found this while looking at the Magic tech tree and playing as Magnar. The tool-tip for Book of Stones says "Unlocks spell: Gift of Iron". This is wrong, pretty sure Gift of Iron is a unique Gilden spell, not a Magnar ability.
I voted good. I love the direction the game is taking. It has tons of strategic depth now, with all the faction differences and different weapon types. The fact that even more stuff is coming down the pipeline just blows my mind. The beta already has more depth than the Civ games, imho. I completed a whole game of 0.91 over the weekend on Easy mode (love how I was able to force Magnar to surrender, thus completing my conquest victory and avoiding tedious endgame mop up). The stability was
I've seen a few posts about this now. Since it seems to be affecting a number of people, I'm guessing Stardock will look into it pretty quickly and try to nip it in the bud. Don't forget to help them out by submitting all the debug information!
