[0.913] Played 10 turns and am not happy already

Just installed the new beta build and got irked so badly that i'm here on the forums and the game is off within the first 10 turns no less.

I just started a new game and on a medium map Verga started no less than 10 squares away from me. Thats not the problem per se, however I proceeded to watch him B-Line and beat me to 4 goodie boxes and kill one of my possible recruits right in front of me. He even split up his 2nd general/companion to take a 5th goodie box from me. To make matters even better, he killed 2 monster dens before I could even walk there.

Exploration is only fun when the AI isn't killing and grabbing everything. Whomever thought it would be a good idea to compete with the AI for the same goodie boxes got it wrong. Every player needs their own goodie boxes in my opinion. How will I recruit any champions later if the AI is going around whacking all of them? This isn't a good feature.

In my previous games i've gone around collecting all the goodie boxes I could from what would be my territory. Going around grabbing the low level goodie boxes is a phase of the game that I enjoyed. It only comes in the beginning of hte game then its gone. Now I see it will be largely removed from my gameplay experience. I have no problem with the AI getting goodie boxes also, however I think each player eneds to have their own set of them that only they can get. Kind of like the quests..

On the same note I enjoy going around clearing monster dens as well. Its an important part of building my characters up. You're removing a huge part of the game for players simply because the AI is trying to imitate the path a human player follows. Perhaps monster dens respawn now, i'm not sure. If that is the case then i'll have things to do all the time i'm not at war with another faction. However if that isnt' the case it again isn't a good feature.

Perhaps i'm over reacting but I saw all of this and for the first time said, "Forget this crap." and turned off the game. A pretty strong reaction to these new changes.

We need another game setting in addition to difficulty and monster density. We need one called Monster toughness that would change the stats and types of monsters ingame. I want the game to be VERY difficult to survive, while others enjoy casual levelling.

I like the jazzed up monsters, however I would appreciate having more border vision - it is difficult to react to inbound creatures when you cannot see them coming which in turn forces large garrisons and turtling is boring.  Towns should generate a bit more vision.

As for monsters attacking or not attacking, it might have a lot to do with the strength of the stack.

It seems that the monsters will attack the AI, just not as often. This will probably be toned down once the AI is good enough to play like we humans do.

Yeah, this is one of my only pet peeves about the current AI. The monsters don't exactly cooperate with the AI players, but it doesn't seem to attack them either, or their unguarded structures. The only battles I have seen between the AI players and monsters are initiated by the AI players, not the monsters.

I am also skeptical that the AI is playing by the rules when it comes to gaining technologies and resources to produce units/buildings.

From what I take of it, Factions do start too close.  I happen to agree.

You can whack enemy heroes at any level is the problem (And they can do same to you).  I think they should not be visible/whackable to other side unless they themselves have the techs to see/recruit that level of hero if it were the same side.

I really hate getting stuck with Sov plus the level 1 chump I recruited at beginning of game.  And some of those guys can be merchants or be a gimp like "Lindy the Light"  (has penalty to carry weight).  Couldn't fight jack on their own or level up without the Sov.

I have just recently seen the AI hero stack move 3 space to take a goody hut that I was right next too! This has only happened once that I have seen, anyone else had a similar situation?

@hmsmiley: There's a spell that increases the movement of a hero's stack by +1 (forgot what it's called), and I've seen the AI use it a couple times, so it wouldn't be unheard of to see AI stacks moving 3 spaces at a time.

As I have suggested in a separate post. The AI should be monster aware and not place outposts/cities such as they wake monsters. That would solve a lot of issues.

I have almost always had problems with starting too close to the opposing factions, going back to beta 1Z of EoW.

So much so that I often play with only three AI opponents on large maps, and even then I have seen it happen.

The last game I started, I was out on a weird penninsula with a very narrow connection to the main continent.

By the time I had discovered this, the AI had already started building cities there.

This was a serious issue because I was only able to build one city. There were no other suitable tiles on that entire land mass.

This brings up another issue that is exacerbated by the close starting points, the dearth of usable tiles.

I understand the lore aspect of the game, but jeesh. On many maps it is just ridiculous how few decent tiles there are.
