Morale also ticks up or down by 1 every round. I can't remember if whether it goes up or down depends on who attacked or who's winning or what. But since battles don't last 30+ rounds (20 or 80 is required for noticeable effects) it really doesn't matter.
I find one of things that causes a feeling of "lack of personality" is a lack of "oh shit" moments. This is partly the AI being dumb (waiting on 1.1) and partly a lack of "random" events, which the AI can cause some of. For example, I was recently playing MoM and was playing a custom wizard with Sss'ra's (sp?) face and Myrran with life magic (so incredibly unbalanced :P) I had planar seal cast so that the entire plane to myself. There was a magic disjunction which of cours
I'm all for the beta version through impulse. Really anyone who chooses "show pre-release versions" since it is not the default should really be prepared for bugs, crashes, and assorted other headaches. You make a choice to use a beta you relinquish any and all rights to complain when it screws up (you are allowed to politely point it out so it can be fixed though).
Right now I build cities approximately 8 squares apart most of the time. The exact number depends on terrain and resource locations. This will give you solid influence coverage relatively quickly and allow room for your cities to grow. You should be placing new cities near any resources you find if they are more than 5 squares away from your city so they have a chance to be linked to a city. In general you should build just about everything in every city until you ge

I typically play with Altar and their special ability is 10 material and 10 metal at start, othersiwe they're average, no pluses & no minuses, which is sort of the way I like to start. I'm assuming that means all the other factions start with 0 metal and 0 materials? This in addition to my early exploration emphasis & expansion might be why I've never really had any problems running out of materials,&n

Since the debate has started up again anyway, here is what I I was going to say last night. I don't know why I feel compelled to say this (I usually stay out of these arguments), but I do. Sorry if some/all of this has been said I stopped reading around page 6 or 7. First, to some extent some companies of the gaming industry aggravated piracy years ago. I distinctly remember when demos stopped being normal (fil

I've noticed some (a lot?) of people complaining the world doesn't feel 'barren enough'. That this is supposed to be a post-cataclysm world so why is there so many resources. So my question is this: What size map are you playing on? I ask this because I play large maps and except for AI starting locations (on ridiculous) the world is pretty barren. There are massive voids with nothing all over the place. I'm lucky if I can get 2 resources with one city.
I haven't played 1.09e yet, but have played 1.07-1.09 a fair bit without hero problems (ignoring the 1.08 hiccup). I spent some time playing around with starting new games and pushing Ctrl+U to reveal the map over and over again (cheats enabled obviously). Some games have very few heroes and some have lots. Some games the nearest hero is half-way across the map and other times there's 3+ within 10 squares of where you start. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the
My system isn't exactly spectacular. Winx XP (32 bit I assume), AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core processor 4800+ 2.49ghz, 3 gigs of ram, and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS. I exclusively play large maps but I don't get out of memory errors generally until turn 200+ and then it's around every 10 turns give or take. Never played past turn 300, and only to turn 300 once (the game I posted saves for) because after about turn 200 it's just mopping up the AI anyway. It is most likel
There's still a memory leak problem in the program. There's nothing you can do about it, best thing is to set auto-save to every turn so you don't have to redo as much when it crashes.
I don't completely agree with you on that. I agree there is a memory leak problem, but having auto-save every turn I have my doubts about. I most often get out of memory errors when saving, auto or manual, and the save always fails. I'
I noticed while playing a large map game from turn 250-300 that the frequency of my out of memory errors was directly related to how often I saved. I have auto-save set to every 3 turns and it seemed that the out of memory errors always occurred on an auto-save turn or when I tried to quick-save the game. The save was never successful either so I had to go back to the previous save. Loading also seemed to cause problems and speed up out of memory errors. For example,

Attack 225, defense 23 (they're archers and never get hit), 3.3 combat speed (though it's actually 4.3 in combat because of the typical +1 everything gets) and the biggest difference is the one I checked has 1,159 health (it's level 13 and was trained as a veteran I think). But if you notice Rilis is selected from the stack so it is her stats only. Those comp
That is true. The random numbers makes things difficult. Same way a unit with 1107 attack (burning blade abuse) managed to do 2 damage. That's why I used a bow though, and the champion never traveled alone, less chance of ever getting hit by those lucky shots. That AI tends to target low armor units first and 42 health is enough to protect against most AoE spells.
The wisdom stat as it is described in character creation doesn't exist in game, it's probably a left over from a beta build (I wasn't in beta so don't know). As it stands now the wisdom stat is starting essence. 15 wisdom = 15 essence at start, 5 wis = 5 essence.
I see a lot of people complaining about champions being weak. So I thought I would share this as a counter-point (sorta). As per the title: I don't know that you could make more than one champion like this per game though. I fed Rilis all the +attack books I found and have her wearing all the magical equipment a kingdom player can buy from their
It is possible to have multiple casters each cast this spell at the same time. Only restriction is once per caster at one time. Same as any other summon except it expires after 5 turns.
I decided to play through the game linked in my previous post from turn 250 through to turn 301, and I'm really glad I did. First, here is the link to the .zip with a few more screenshots, a save for turn 301, and a word document with a concluding diary entry. http://www.mediafire.com/?559eid87qppb6k4 There are actually several note-worthy things that came up in that 50 turns.
