I've been thinking about trying to create a new building that would lay a small-ish zone of influence around it that could be used to bring resources into supply so you can build on them. Let's call it an outpost for now. The outpost would be able to station a garrison, and maybe even train units, but couldn't have improvements attached to it. It would probably provide a defensive bonus to the units inside or something as well. Thing is: -I don't know if this is even possible

I'm beyond excited. I *so* can not wait for this game to be released.
All I am saying is I understand the fear because I've encountered the problem. I look at some of my old games that i throw into my machine and realize that if these companies did what the companies do today, none of my games woudl work because they are all gone, and that sucks. I've loaded up a game and got unplayable lag because even though the company is still in existence all the servers for multiplayer are located in Germany now, servers t
I might have a "bad" PC by today's standards, but the game runs fine in 3-D mode both on the map and tactical battles.
Quoting Myles, reply 95 All I can say is I share none of your concerns. Probably because you never experienced them. Unlike you, I don't need to be shot, to know I don't want to be shot. And we're dealing with an industry that loses and gains players yearly. It's not if one of them goes down, it's how many.
Yeah, but an industry that's gone through that and still surviving. I mean, if things were that vola
Quoting CariElf, reply 87 No, but Brad has previously said that if we ever do fail, we'll release updates to remove the activation code before we shut the doors. My knowledge of BK filings are certainly not as extensive as some others, but at some point in the process what is done to the assets in question is no longer up to the filer. You don't get to just throw your IP and products out the window for free devaluin
Quoting Frogboy, reply 18 I didn't miss the point. We like our lore. We don't want elves and orcs and unicorns. The game isn't for everyone. Yes, you did. He's talking about things not having much differentiation. That's not just about unicorns, it's also about weapons and spells and resources. The point is very much that it doesn't matter if I take fireball vs , or a swor
With the way it stands right now I agree with you, a faster weapon either does things that don't make sense (letting you run faster), or doesn't particularly matter at all.
Why wouldn't that make sense. If I have a certain strength, I can move so fast under so much load. If I'm carrying a 40 lb war hammer or a 5 lb sword - I'm probably going to be able to move more freely with the lighter weapon, especially if my stren
I haven't tried, but likely not. What would the new directories be for? You mean like making one with a mod name, and just having all the relevant files in there instead of distributing the mod files over several core folders?
Yeah, like I would create a directory - say - \My Games\Elemental\Ironmana_Mod. Then I could put my customized files in there - instead of throwing them all in the "Units" directory which just
Has anyone tried adding their own directories to the \My Games\Elemental tree? Will the game pick up files in user-created directories?

Good luck and nice job!
I think it's pretty good. I like it so much I even changed the volume settings in the xml so it plays more boldly on the world map.
IronMana: create one of your custom sovereigns. Now go to:
*nod* yeah, I've made a custom sov. and faction via XML, and found it not as hard as people probably think (I'm hardly a master modder or a master programmer) I'm not against a GUI at all. As one person said, even those comfortable with XML will likely find it convenient at the very least. Looks like I don't have a dog in
I would assume point-based would be the in-game UI (assuming there is one...), or there could be a checkbox that controls whether or not the faction is restricted to a certain amount of points or subsets of abilities (call it "multiplayer compatible"). There would have be a form of verification, of course.
That would make sense. Perhaps the verification would be that when the game loads the faction, it

Looking at the xml and without giving exact numbers, this is what difficulty seems to impact at least as far as the AI is concerned: AI Economy (I'm guessing income) Whether or not the AI can see through FOW (again, a guess based on the variable name) What % of the unit's HP the AI units have (i.e. unit defined HP * this = HP the unit has if AI owned) A couple things involving sovereigns. One involves their HP (I'm guessing just like with the units above). The
Again, 10 rings is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE idea. No, it is not realistic. We are talking about magical rings that do crazy things like make you move faster. There is no realism involved. If you are a typical power-whore and seeking greater and greater power, yes, you might try to cram as many rings onto your hands as possible. That is an "in character" descition to make. However, there are "Rings of Power" and cannot simply be worn in
If the point-based faction creator is the only option, I wouldn't like that any more than people now liking xml as the only option. If that's the way MP needs to work - fine, but if I play SP game, I don't want using the points to be the only way to make factions. Has nothing to do with hacking in uber swords, imo. It has to do with how many options and what not would be available for modding factions. If I want to create an "exotic" faction but such options aren't available i
