This is more like your boss calling you in on your day off because [something unexpected happened.] He asks you to fix it and you give a quick estimate which ends up being wrong. As with any impromptu response to an unexpected event, things are already not going according to plan, so estimates are frequently going to be wrong. *shrug*
Doesn't that still tend to tick off bosses beca
Call me weird, but I am less likely to buy a game at all if they rip out content from the regular edition so they can give it to pre-order or limited edition versions. Personally I prefer what they are offering in the Elemental LE version over something ingame.
Same here - reminds me of those goodie packs that used to come in the Working Designs games.

Too funny :) I love the part where he says "hey, I'm a channeller" and then his spellbook says "No Spells, sucker!" (well, not the sucker part) That and the whole "why is the bear green" dialogue - too funny.

Well, you have a dual core and 4 GB RAM. That's way better than me. I don't know about your graphics card, though. Athlon 64 3800+ (single core at 2.4 GHz) 2 GB RAM BFG GeForce GTS 250 Factory OC. (using 251.something version drivers) And Beta 4 flies for me even in 3D mode and default graphics settings. I don't know if this is a processor heavy or Gfx card heavy game (Beta has seemed more processor heavy than anything else for me)

I think there has to be some kind of mod manager, or the game needs to read from all directory under the base /My Games/Elemental directory. That way we can keep mods in separate directories, and the mod manager so we can tell Elemental which mod(s) we want to load up for that gaming session. Or at least with separate folders, you could have command line...er I mean shortcut arguments (blahblah/Elemental.exe -IronManaMod, for example, and in the mods directory, the game will look for

I haven't done any peeking into the xml yet, but I looked up how the starbases worked - and by looking at that, it might be best to play off the city building and use early improvements to set the course like Folick thought about. I think the trick will be defining this building and disabling improvements that wouldn't be compatible with an outpost while enabling things that let you upgrade your outposts.

Because if it's not good, then who will still play it in MP? And as far as human learning - how do humans learn how to get better at games?

I don't really care about day 0 patches or such. Patches are a reality for games. No one is perfect, no plan is ever perfect, crap happens. I'd rather see a lot of patches (at least it shows developers are trying to get it right and not saying "oops, we screwed up, oh well - sorry we have to do something else"). I'll also take the patch ability over back in the day when patches were far harder to get (if they even existed?) All I care about is if the game is good enough to even want t

GO AI Bring it on! Bring on that learning AI that can understand and copy the tactics from the top Elemental players and constantly evolve and learn. Would be great to have an AI that presents a stiff challenge and has the ability to adapt and understand what does and doesn't work over the course of a game! Do it! Make this AI lover happy! :D
This is a CPU bound process, using the CPU for something else is going to make it take even longer (and will hit people with single core CPUs the most as there won't be *any* parsing going on while the CPU is busy animating pong). Heh and I'm the sucker still on a single core. :) Oh well, I'm used to: a. my machine getting reminded it's getting old b. games not running super fast because of a. Plus, if the game is good, I'll wait. I can always go get a sandwich or hit the toilet (I mean, I'm not going to want to get up for something as lame as eating or peeing when I have Elemental to be playing or modding) So bring on the MB of XML to parse! :D I kn
What defines your unit selection? For example, Observers vs. Scouts... that sort of thing. What determines unit names? Well, with the 'items' I was thinking each NPC just has it. For example, when Joe is defined in the XML with his gear and whatnot - the "EXP item" is one of the things he has equipped. So it wouldn't be a consumed item like a potion or the books, but an equipped one. That might bypass the perturn or whatever it is getting in the way? Wouldn't need clicking unless you took the item off (which - actually - is something I didn't think of). Though, it doesn't help with your giving EXP by
Tactical turn length: I really like the ideas where combat goes for x turns, and then suspended until the next game turn. This gives a lot of room for strategic reinforcement. I'm excited by the idea of two players rushing reinforcements to a battle, and having a small pointless skirmish slowly turn into an epic battle that determines the game. Also, on the tactical level, it gives you scenarios where you just nee

Nice idea - would add a nice twist to combat (or even pre-combat where you decide if a stack should be attacked or not), especially if you don't know if the enemy has taken Summon sphere or not. They look all weak, but then BAM summon some elemental in battle and turn the whole tide of battle around.

Hahaha Frisky. That's awesome. Too bad that code didn't work, though :( I can't find any more leads. Every instance in the xml seems to be either the UnitStat_Experience, or the code block above. Maybe it's only legal on items? Could you give the NPC an "item" that gives the experience? Say the merchant gets a "merchant manual" or something that gives the exp?

It could've been similar if not the same and the problem I think is the way we want to use is not the correct way. I think 1 just means "yes" it works per turn, 0 probably means no? And the mechanic that actually gives attributes per turn is probably hidden atm.
Yeah, that's what I figured with
Unfortunately, UnitStat_Experience is related to the experience gained for killing said unit. Raising this value only makes the unit more valuable to kill. I believe there must be a hidden value for tracking experience and once it is discovered we can make passive experience gains.
PASSIVE EXPERIENCE GAINS: I'd also like to know if anyone has any ideas on how to add experience per turn to a champion? It'd be nice, especially for the sovereign, if all champions got VERY SMALL amounts of EXP per turn IF they are doing something related to their class (ie. merchants and administrators in cities, adventurers completing quests, scouts exploring...). This would also help add to the career progression of unit class

Maybe I don't get it because I never played GalCiv2 - but I'm not disappointed at all in this game and don't find it bland. Based on the Beta, it might have rough edges, but what game doesn't especially at release or during the Beta stage? And I know people down the Modding Will Save It stuff, but for me, modding is one huge part of it. After dealing with games that make you jump through hoops to let you mod everything about it, Elemental seems like it will have none of that a

How about any unit that's attacked by any other unit than the one it attacked take more damage from those "alternate" attacks. That would seem to play out the 3 on 3 line of swordsman scenario. If all 3 on one side focus on the middle guy, the two outer guys on the other side would do extra damage. A B C X Y Z A-C attack Y. X attacks A, Y attacks B, Z attacks C. Y takes extra damage from A and C, but A and C

*Note to self, research GalCiv2 starbases* The use of a building is an interesting idea. I could then go through the improvement system. At least that's another possible avenue, which is always a good thing to have. Thanks :D
