Rogue -> Assassin -> (either Shadow Dancer or Marksman) Assassins use both Blades and Bows effectively ... Marksman would be the ultimate Bow specialization (from a rogue perspective) Shadow Dancer would use stealth and teleportation magic to aid in their "Bladed" abilities. So Shadow Dancer is Magic and Melee +, while Marksman is Ranged ++ Possible abilities of the Shadow Dancer could be -> Shadow Step ( w

One thing that helped Ultima IV was that it was a living world. In Morrowind, even if it was stuck in a static image of itself, was very much a living world, or rather a living lore perhaps. I perfer Morrowind to Oblivion (haven't tried Skyrim) and I prefer Fallen Enchantress to E:WoM.

Resolyn/Wraiths -> death mages + assassins Trogs -> Brutish warrior caste Its the Quendar and Urxen that are the tricky ones imho ... While the Urxen are the inheritors of Umbra, and their leader appears to be a hybrid (possibly half-dragon), due to appearance the Quendar seem more likely for traits such as Serpents Pact. Perhaps magnar's arrogance leads him to be an arrogant and cagey sorceror. Unwilling to make deals un

I guess if you are constantly selling items then there is less point to have high taxes ... but what if you are not constantly selling items? Also, you could just build more buildings, and have a larger and larger army ... which would EVENTUALLY require you to raise your taxes don't you think? I admit I'm new to the Beta, but I hardly ever build stuff in my cities, and just have taxes run at a positive so that I won't run out of gold ;

Yes, I can see Kraxis as being very interested in diplomacy and deals, yet will backstab/break deals when they feel that they can benefit. Equally, Kraxis are not above bowing down to the current leader in power-> They won't pick a fight they know they cannot win, they will be sychophantic to the powerful and ruthless to the weak (manipulative and a bit of an ego complex)

True ... but I think thats mainly for a stack with only fighter champions. If you have even one mage champion its probably better to use the mage (due to less mana cost). However ... everyone should have haste so that they can haste themselves ;)

So assassins are naturally immune to the Smoke penalty? That's fine with me, it just didn't seem clear in the post.

To wrap it up, I agree with Sean that races should have more than just stat-differences ... but abilities and effects as well. The differences between Vampires, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs are interesting. Some are weak to fire or life magic, others are immune to death magic, and some are resistant to fire magic (as an example). I suppose some Fallen could be weak to fire and immune to death while others could be resistant to fire. Some could have higher stats and yet be weak to

I'm not sure that any civ currently has a 'specialty' in mounted ... that may come later if they add an extra 'nomadic' race or something. For now though, I think its clear that some of the Fallen Races may prefer the Harridan Spider or the Frog-Lizard thing as a mount, but really ... those are only for heroes iirc. The death mage faction would be the Spider focused one, while either magnar or the one with a half-dragon Sovereign would be int

Actually while I agree that Smoke (from a Smoke Bomb) should increase 'ranged dodge' and decrease accuracy, I think that it doesn't have to affect melee-based dodge at all (as there could be arguments for either increasing or decreasing melee dodge) ... but rather for Assassins to just have a trait (or be able to learn a trait) which makes them immune to the Accuracy penalty of being in smoke, or at least to reduce the penalty. Therefore they can blind the ppl with smoke,

@ Drahokan. I think you bring up some excellent points. In Space ... there isn't a whole lot of variation between one nations space travel and another nations space travel. You can do a little differentiation (different ways of folding space-time, Organic Ships, etc), but ultimately its just "how different is my jet-fighter from your jet-fighter" While in pre-industrialized cultures there is an opportunity for cultural differences to be seen i

I wouldn't think 'new element' spells would have to be TOO expensive ... just have it to be a Mid-tech element, with 50 or so mana cost ... 50 mana cost for each element that is, and it only gives you 'apprentice' level (so you'd have to level up for better spells still) -> its not like you want spells on champs that don't take 'path of the mage' anyways xD

Gilden: Axe and Shield, vertical growth, honor contracts. Possibly Knights with Lance? Capitar: Sword-using elite units leading an army of highly organized spearmen. Horizontal growth, neutral on the 'honor'. Horizontal growth Pariden: looks down on everyone. Magic users are the citizens, everyone else are the minions loyal to the crown (else death). favorable to honor, yet not likely to make any contracts Tarth: Bows and Javelins, general distrust/isolationist

Perhaps Path of the Mage could lead to "Path of the Arachnid" (spider mage) and a "Path of the Dragon" (dragon disciple) also, anyone think its funny that one of the NPC adventurers is a 'dragon born' ;P

Yep. Tarth are rebels or bandits that seek refuge in the forests, (and according to E:WoM most of their land is either forest or swampland) Due to forests, I see a focus on archers and skirmishers ... horsearchers would just be a natural extension if they get their hand on horses (but on one hand it doesn't make a lot of sense because they live in forest, so where do they train their horses, but details ...) at least archers though ;) <

[quote who="Aerion Istari" reply="78" id="3086680"] quoting post Champions are automatically able to cast spells. What makes the sovereign special – as a channeler – is they’re the ones with the ability to derive mana from the shards. All spell casters use the global pool supplied, ultimately, through your channeler. The bottom line, lots more magic being thrown around. Please elaborate on this? I don't understand what this

I like the idea of initiative not just being (who moves first and how many times they move) ... but instead being a "currency" that you can use in a variety of ways (during your round). You can spend Initiative by moving (up to your maximum movement) and you can spend your initiative by attacking. In this way, if you have a lightweight weapon like a dagger, it uses less initiative to use (can move-attack, or attack 3 times) while a larger weapon could re
