Perhaps because most tactical battle games are extremely linear, get quite boring, and more often than not have terrible AI? I could mention a few more reasons, but I think the availablity for your custom-made, experience point driven units, perhaps plus the sovereign, battling enemies in a good system ... is something you will find NO WHERE else. Personally I shrink away from the Auto-Calculate with more celerity than a wheezing homicidal leper.
Just saying. At this point we know more of the Tactical Battle part of the game than the population one. .
Personally ... I hope tactical battles become the most important element of the game by FAR .... other than perhaps mod-ability ;) I mean ... without a really cool tactical battle-screen plus really REALLY good AI (total war has horrible AI methinks) ... then it would just seem like another re-hashed

well, sometimes even if you are losing ... say if you are the 100 vs the 200, you can use good tactics to take out at least the number of your own. However, this is usually a "fight to the last" strategy, where your entire unit gets wiped out, and they suffer heavy losses, destroying all but the luckiest (or most protected) of the enemy force

deleting a human-based unit should return that population to the nearest city ... right?

Yea ... I kinda agree we should be less pansies about it. Sovereign death should = game loss, just straight up and simple ... no natural defenses against this. Then we play the game after it comes out for a week, and if the system works then yaaaaay .... if we aren't able to actually USE our sovereign and have fun, then a patch could come out to add some of our suggestions.

Fair enough ... someone mentioned a static "escape meter" or something, which was a non-random integer influenced by logical steps and decisions. Could be affected by friendly and enemy spells. As long as the number on this meter wasn't negative (zero or positive) at the start of every turn (like if you paused it) you could choose to escape. I would assume you will still fight out the battle without the sovereign, and an extreme morale loss to troops.

well .. I undestand the need to include "pedia" although it could be its very own word. Like Elementology, for instance. for instance, if a Morrowind/Oblivion TBS game were to come out, the pedia would most likely be called "the elder scrolls" wether the name for the pedia will be closely tied with the games main name will have to be up to the development team. "Of the Elements" would actually be a decent name for the Pedia, as refers to the game's title, is not akward

or ONLY extremely high level units could teleport, as plane-shifting would tear the very particles of a man asunder if he had too low of a will save. Food for thought :3

I think you might be onto something here. I would like the escape counter to be calculated like this; Sovereign defending (+1) Sovereign is in a town with an escape tunnel (+1) Sovereign is within his own borders (+

I suppose one thing we should consider is that extra equipment will add to build times, and it seems the current favored economic model is that if you have access to the proper resource, you have an increased build time for the unit model. This seems to mean to me that without a certain resource, you will be suffering un-naturally long build times, while also suffering from lack of equipment. Would there be some way to naturally reduce the build time of a unit based on the alternative

:) ..... :p Well, if his very life is in danger, and most of his army is already dead, I see no reason for even sauron or Gandalf to run and flee in the presence of an approaching enemy. Think, for instance, if the party had decided to stay and fight the balrog. If all the other characters were killed by the balrog, killed completely dead ... do you think Gandalf would still fight on or would he turn to flee? wether or not he could escape at
Instead it would be better if you have to react to what you fight. So units with some AoE would have advantage against masses while units with strong single target attacks have advantages against heavily armored single targets. An example: 100 unarmored, unexperienced macemen would have no chance against a heavily armored dragon. He'd toast them before they would get close and should they get close their maces would not d

In the more elaborate posts I have built up around dragons, the process of getting your own dragon would require having the necessary know-how/ technology ... for knowing how to hatch a dragon's egg, and in order to gain the respect of a Dragon as it grows in age, size, and hunger/greed (and power). Also, a given faction could only own one dragon ... basically given the option to hire a dragon at exorbitant cost, or to go on a grande quest for a dragon's egg. Getting the egg would req

anyways, I suppose an assumption I made for this design was that most techs will have certain requirements to be met before they show up at all, and some will only have a requirement from a singular other field. Therefore, focusing primarily on two fields of research (at a time?) would lend itself best to co-creative development.

Martial Warfare; Arcane Sudies; Fiscal Knowledge(Scholarly); Religion, Population Growth(housing, farming, city works), Commerce Based economy(and trade), Naval Warfare(and possibly aerial as well), and last but not least- Beastial Mastery (of the ways of beasts and how to raise/recruit them) in this case there would be 8 basic technological groupings, 4 economical and 4 militaristic. This is an argument in favor of focus-based research. For while I can competently prio

I like continuous, I don't mind real time-esque. Battle-map definitely should be larger imo .... Its possible that certain dungeons or swamps are too small/crowded for you to bring in your entire army, and there might be instances were you are forced to bring a small force on a smaller grid like the battle we have been shown. Still, I would like to see a screeny of your run of the mill Huge army vs HUGE army, in open plains and rolling hills.

I would like to see MOM available on impulse, hosted by Stardock, ect ect. I would even buy it for 10 dollars or so, the price for avoiding all the hassle with Daemon tools and sifting through arcane repitoires of dying and forgotten games, until I find the files that will actually work, or just get a spot of luck from my +1 ring of finding.

I don't see how you would be able to equip the dread knight with iron if you don't have the resource though ... and shouldn't having a road connection be more than simply one less turn aka a bonus of 3.3% ... I'd almost rather it be at least a 10 or 20% bonus to have a road for the INITIAL resource, while additional resources of the same ilk are still only 3.3%. In addition, I suppose losing your last iron resource would give the slowest build time, and build the units without the iro

thats what I was wondering too ... hopefully a "bot" is separate from a normal AI, in that its a lurker of the server lobby as opposed to an actor added to the game by the game "host." In that case, it would probably only be necessary if a nation in Elemental could not easily switch between AI control and human control, but rather a separate "bot" function would have to control AI's you might think a human would join as at a later date. Of course, if "bot" merely meant any and all AI

I honestly dont mind simply a "quick" alternative to the epic campaign with faster build-times and research times, where a multiplayer game between 4-9 people could take 4-6 hours before reaching a forgone conclusion (or people decided to erect a winner atop their bruised shoulders) as far as simultaneous turns (which I think is a must) either during battle-map human vs human, it "freezes" for the other people ... or a default ON option where all players get to see the
