usually I would place a level-cap on defensively trained units. Fall Further has a simple tact, and it relies on teching to a fairly simple mid-game tech and building a relatively inexpensive building. this would be for each "unit type" melee/archer/recon for mounted units it was a deeper mid-game tech, with a more expensive building, although the level cap was also significantly higher. meanwhile mages and priests had their own auto-experience gain system, whie

yes, in Civ IV in diplomacy you can tell/ask an AI to attack a certain city. I was thinking more in terms of multiplayer as pings are a much more "human" concept imho.

Well ... adepts are a slower and less reliable unit-class, but they are supposed to be used by skilled players. I was able to play several Shieam games while having nothing more than adepts. Especially so if I started next to the Broken Sepulcher. You would only get death magic and combat promotions (as well as mobility 1 eventually). Only attack with skeletons. Your skeleton horde will slowly weaken them ... and while your building adepts, your teching for sorcery. Once you have sorc

well, the current version of FFH2 needs the 3,19 (or whatever is newest) patch on BTS. there is a vanilla version somewhere though.

I definitely think that user established landmarks (like labelling a Desert "arrakis" for example) should be viewed by all players (and AI, but only humans can think and find it significant of course) a few functions I would like .... global labels, team-only labels, global pings, and team only pings. - this might usually be overlooked, but it would be very nice in multiplayer ... ways to communicate other than simple typing. Sometimes much more effective.

yea, beyond basic ability increases/stat increases that come with level, perhaps a 50% bonus to "equipment stats" every 5 levels or something.

Basing on the current beta and the developer plans, this game is becoming more and more like a Civilizations clone with a few spells and dragons thrown in. ... THIS is epic fantasy. Feel free to disagree . I feel free to AGREE! [/quote] I disagree. Eitherway, "political

well, in any case I would like for my theory to be implemented in any "gandalf" mode. So that someone who leaves their nation behind is not gimped in mana.

for some reason I thought that you had a maximum amount of mana based on the amount of essence that you possesed. And that crystals, other than possibly helping in magical research, only determine what kind of spells you can use. I do not recall a consensus where the amount of mana crystals owned increased mana generation, only availability of spells. Therefore I was quite certain that the only factor determining your amount of mana was essence.

ok ... cause I was thinking that say, you have essense x 10 mana, spells are mana costly, and you regain mana after every turn. As in ... gain 100% of your mana back every turn. Although ... I suppose if 1 point of mana turns out to be Rather powerful, and the mana recharge rate per turn is rather low, then it fixes its own problems without needing an investment system + a battle mana system. The mana points Idea I got from that Legends of Dragons Pass game, where each year yo

Yea, clollecting the 5 armorers, ect wouldn't be a Meta-game "global" achievement but it would be an in-game achievement. Sure u might get a trophy that says (you found all 5 armorers) or something, but u would only have the game-advantage in the games where u actually went and did it, and im sure they would be in different locations each game, perhaps with similar type of clues leading to them though.

so then mana will be permentenly used up, wether overland or in-battle, until the next turn?

9 Replies 7,649 Views

Ive been thinking about how, among all the ideas, there are two basic ways to spend mana. (talking about mana specifically, not essence) First there is in-battle mana, which either can regenerate in-between battles. Secondly there is mana used for everything else under the rainbow, outside of battle, which lowers your battle-mana for the duration of that turn... basically they are the same mana, but the more mana you invest into the world map, the less you have availab

Reply to Mercenaries in WOM Ideas

well, the best way to implement roaming mercenary bands is that once they are hired, you can control them to attack or raid the enemy as a hidden nationality unit, or you can join them into your regular ranks for a certain salary. If you choose the first option, then an enemy diplomat can meet with them and hire them right back out of your hands. and if there was a loyalty stat then, well, those mercs u join into your army would have a loyalty rating dependent o

I kind of like my two-weapon idea (aka u can hold two weapons, with a button to switch weapon) That way you can make an expensive unit called the Fortress. Plate Armor, LongBow, and LongSword. If you make a whole army of these ... its extremely expensive, but ... first your entire army can unleash arrows, and then when the enemy get close, switch to swords and start trying to surround/flank your enemy while u pummel them with swords and are protected by heavy ar

Personally, I like a little bit of both. For instance in the Dynasty Warriors 5 (or 6) with the organic world map .... there was a Possibility of having all the Events/Quests stem from that one map ... being some-what influenced by how powerful CaoCao, Liu Bei, and (red people) were. instead, you had to conquer the entire map whenever you wanted to progress through one quest. I like a series of Some-what connected quests, spread out maybe 1 every 20 turns, that t

I don't know about you, but I'd really like for some mid-game nation to start invading from a portal somewhere ... and a world-quest could simply be wether you choose to ally with this race of (demons?) or if you will become their sworn enemy to remove them from the planet. I mean, doing nothing would keep you neutral of course, but if all the enemies of the demons are destroyed, then the demons and their allies will (most likely) come for you next, or use you like a coca-cola and thr

On step #3 ... definitely a mixture of the latter two options, or one of the latter two options. Definitely. Need. The Ability. To Mod. Quests. I like the outline for the Dragon's egg quest, although maybe that one should require a certain Adventuring tech level OR a specific tech in the Adventuring tree.

gah ... crowding factors are one thing, but increased maintanence is another. It only encourages micro. I think having either no caps or invisible ceiling-eque soft-caps. Let the elements of the game take care of the rest. I don't think we need to have the code tell us we can't have all our units in one army if we want to. Although there could be a logistical or rather TACTICAL limiting reagent on army size. aka your flank can only be so wide, and if you cover the entire map, on the l
