Hello. I was considering why I never found Elemental: War of Magic that immersive and concluded one of the major factors was the Sound effects. To say they are anaemic and underwhelming is an understatement, and makes me wonder if anyone at Stardock considered them as anything more than an afterthought. Master of Magic made a fanfare of practically everything within it's technical capabilities. It added hugely to the charm. My allusions to Star Wars are relevent- the Iconic noises o

I personally will have a sovereign that is good at sweeping floors. pacov shall be his name.
And 'Vital Strike II' sounds like a Steven Seagal movie.
Master of Magic is and was a trend setting that I've yet to see truly matched. A few have tried, a few of echoed it, but no one has ever to my knowledge has even paralleled or surpassed it. It's a classic, and if FE can even come close it will be awesome! Btw, in case you missed it or lost it, MoM is back on the market: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/master_of_magic
From the site: <

I like the population for troops mechanic it makes you husband your troops rather than spam them like some demented South Korean. I love the randomness (along with random events) it will hopefully give the feel of a differant game every time rather than like Civ 5. Anyway, I like dissident or dissenter for rebels. 'Dissident' mean to sit apart, disagree whilst 'Rebels' implies armed struggle or angst-ridden non-conformist teenagers spraying graffiti whil

Agree with OP on the lack of fun element. There's a number of reasons, a few being- -Poor SFX. As George Lucas said 'Sound is half the picture'. I couldn't believe my ears with the anaemic SFX in Elemental. -Lack of 'theatre' for want of a better word. There's no drama in anything. In MoM practically everything that you were informed about came with a bit of fanfare. It had charm. -Fantasy games are escapist guilty pleasures. Playing somethi

In 16 years of gaming Elemental is the only one I've considered gettingmy money back on. The Anaemic sound effects and lack of, well, fun (that one generally expects in a game) being foremost amongst my gripes. Seriously, just copy Master of Magic next time guys. Damn, I was so looking forward to the release of this game as well.

Elemental wasn't really a 'big' game but it certainly was my biggest gaming dissapointment of 2010 by a country mile. Usually things like that don't bother me (long-awaited Dragon Age wasn't what I expected but it was still a good game) but I imported the game at quite a higher expense than usual (with an additional £13.60 customs fee), so I'm somewhat less reasonable when it comes to Elemental.

From my perspective at least Elemental will have to have some pretty drastic overhauls for 1.1 to make it even a good game. I still can't fathom for the life of me how it was decided it was ready for release. Anyway looking to the future it seems SD is open and candid about it's future challenges and this certainly makes a refreshing change from other companies I could mention.

Hope there's a setting for longer tech research durations- in past civ games I never felt I stayed in an epoch long enough and had any realistic conflicts without units upgrading after an hour. A game that could last four-five days where I had to use ancient tech for a long time would suit me better. The turns would have to be slowed down, naturally.

The two things I disliked about civ 4 were the garish cartoony graphics and the stack-based unit system. As both have been changed I have to say I'm looking forward to it; though I have doubts as to how complex the combat system will be (e.g do units have a 'facing' so they can be flanked etc?). If civ v is fun to play out of the box then it immediately has an advantage over Elemental; I've been looking forward to it since it was announced but I can rarely find the drive to play for long

I e-mailed Triumph studios a month or so back asking where I could get it (SM). Got a return e-mail telling me the only place was gametap and that they were planning a digital copy soon so I guess this is it. SM is a great expansion and the final level on hard was... hard. Recommended.

Just saw some screens on IGN and it looks like HoMM V redux. Anyways, I've played all the HoMM but missed IV due to poor reviews but last year I bought it on a whim and found it the most compelling and innovative of the series. V regressed the series as far as I'm concerned.

It says a new might and magic as far as I can see, not Heroes of might and magic. Probably will be (I hope anyways) a new heroes game, so it better be an improved effort over V.
In Elemental, we have two areas that are particularly problematic in that area before you even get into the game: #1 When you first launch the game. and #2 Waiting for the game to start (i.e. the time after you start the game and you actually get to the map).
Hey I wouldn't worry about that. 'Game starting delay' is the last opportunity I get to sip my tea before it goes cold with that n

Huh. Yeah first you want them to fight for you then they're moving in next door with their new-found citizenship and making 10,000 more than you a year. Drota filth. Empire'll thin their ranks out a little.
