Fallen Enchantress- Events

There are random events in Fallen Enchantress. They are rare. They don't make the player's life easier.

Lucky we have this random event to even things out. ![]()

hahaha I love it!
This is a picture of my desk right now ![]()

Wow the art is amazing.
Random events in FE sound exciting!
I can see it now:
"Attention sovereign. Something just ate The Ruin of Summer, and is now headed to your capital, grab your ankles, keep your head down and think happy thoughts."
Dev Journal? More like, Dev Tease. Nice artwork though ![]()
Fair enough, here is some real info: https://forums.elementalgame.com/411840

Poor Derek, he can't win either way ![]()
I'm so glad that Stardock decided to implement solar eclipses (see OP picture) in FE. Never knew those were random though. ![]()
Damn thats awesome art right there! Nice! ![]()
I think you all are missing it - the random event is that the tree in the bottom right was not there a day before. Then, suddenly, it appeared. It's fruit was the most delicious thing in existence. As a result, dragons came to try to get it. A panther wanted it so bad that is started oozing green blood on its right side because he ran from a 1,000 miles away, non stop (and suddenly had green blood - it happens). A dinosaur thingee started to charge it. Some guy with chalk on his back was like, "WTF - I want some." And a really slow rock wolf thing started howling at the moon. Also, the moon wanted the tree and started to crash into the world of elemental.
Side note - I would love to see some rediculous random events. Hopefully something somewhat vague and surprising like a family suddenly died in X town, their faces covered in boils. Nothing happens for some time, but then the same thing happens in another town. I'd prefer it if these events were all very interactive and not just a dialog box telling you what went down (eg you can send people to investigate - then decide if you want to quarantine or raze the town). As long as these random events are "rare" like you said. I'd love to see posts on the forum talking about crap I've never seen. And then you can even sneak some more random events in future patches. I always find it exciting to have a unique experience in a video game - and that truly is rare.
Anyway, random food for thought.
Does that mean we get three choices, each one providing -1 stability?
What I'd like to see is a Random Event replicating a 'crash to desktop'. The game doesn't really crash, you just think its crashed. And then when you're all "ARRRGGG!!!" the game just pops back up.

"u Mad, Bro?"
It only happens once per game, after turn 500.
And only with auto saves off and with the player not having saved for at least 12 turns ![]()
Very happy to hear that there will be random events in the game. ![]()
I do hope that there will be slightly more common random events that happen as well as the rare ones though.
Well, at least the possibility to easily mod them in anyway.
Fantastic art as well. ![]()
This will make my Circle of the Black Thorn quest line very doable. Thanks.
Will the AI be capable of responding to these events by going to war/changing strategy/putting resources into a quest race with the human player?
Random events area big plus for me in strat games. Consider my interest in Elemental rekindled.
I wonder what types of random events they are planning on?
I'd love to hear a generic, hypothetical event from SD so we get the gist. Thanks!
I know that in EWoM we could get quests from random events. In GalCiv2 we could get invaded or lose a quarter of our planets, the Dreadlords could come out of hiding, you could find new units/techs, you could get a worldwide bonus or penalty, you might go to war with someone, space ponies could make first contact, giving you cancer in the eye.
A comment on random events - while many people enjoy the replayability they add, others can find this extremely frustrating.
Let's say a player had started a game on max difficulty, with the goal of employing careful planning and diplomacy to pull off a minimal-defense expansion gambit in the early game. Through thorough planning and hours of delicate maneuvering, they manage to gain a bunch of cities with rich resources, and are just starting to convert that territory into a military advantage, when suddenly, an eclipse event hits out of the blue and hordes of monsters appear to destroy all their cities with no warning and no possible response, rendering all of the player's effort moot - and worst of all, the defeat would have nothing to do with the player's skill, since there was no way to anticipate such an event.
Perhaps a way to make these events a replayability-enhancing test of skill rather than a f*** you directed at the player would be to give some sort of advance warning - for instance, 50 turns before the event, you get a message saying "Mystics have seen signs in the sky predicting a time when nature will rise against those who seek to tame it.", then, ten turns before the event, a message says "Astrologers have forseen an imminent eclipse of the sun - when this disaster strikes, monsters will swarm into the realms of men and fallen." The importance of this warning is that it gives the player a chance to plan ahead, and makes failure to adapt the results of player misjudgement rather than just bad luck.
I agree.
Best regards,
Steven.
There will never be that kind of random event. You are always able to respond and defend your cities. I do think that you bring up an important point: random events need to well crafted to be fun rather than an annoyance. Let me ask the questions, why do you not defend your cities, why are you playing in the highest difficulty if you can't even handle random events? I would mop the floor with any strategy that can't handle random spawns. Of course you may be right. They may force terrible creature spawns on us at random. It may break the game. I have to assume that is the case until they prove otherwise. Thank you EWoM for giving me that experience.
The true question is whether or not the AI can cope with a random event.
I agree with Steven.
Best regards,
Pacov.
Random events are win.
Random events with advance portents as Tohron says are also win (arguably even more win, after all few things spice up the game than the knowledge of impending problems, particularly if they come with opportunities if you handle it well).
The ability to turn random events off is also critical of course as not everyone likes them. If there are some truely brutal random events (eg the Borg turning up in Star Trek Birth of the Federation, gg if you aren't in a sufficiently advanced/prepared state) then maybe there needs to be an option to turn them off but leave normal random events on.
