I'll weigh in since I have played over 1600 games total. For reference games are typically 20-60 minutes each. Pros: It's free You can't buy power Always a game available Quick match making (solo or with friends) Lots of variety Subtly complex You can ignore people in chat Cons: People like to talk trash, are rude, etc

I'm encouraged by the money Gamestop can put behind impulse to be a true competitor to Steam. If i owned Steam i would be a little frightened by this. I think gamers will benefit from this deal and the user base will grow despite what people are saying in posts. Gamestop can offer something to developers that Steam can't... multiple retail channels. Don't be surprised if PC games start showing up in Gamestop stores again. And that next T

The first Kohan and it's expansion, which was a major improvement to towers, IS still a great real time strategy. The beauty is found in the skirmish mode rather than the campaign. The game becomes even better when played co-op with friends. You may have to play a few games to find the settings that provide the perfect challenge. With some time you will find the balance. The AI can beat you! What a concept. Give it another try in Skirmish.&nbs

May i make one suggestion? Is is possible to flag the population or city level number to show which cities need more housing to level up?

Louist - I'm not sure this will help but I'm playing smoothly with Medium video setting on all ( except High resolution textures) on a dog of a PC. Thing is 5 years old and only the video card (8800GT) exceeds minimum specs. However, I'm running XP so only DX9c is available to me. I wonder if they problem is more related to the DX version. You may want to try DX9 version, if that's possible, until a few patches are released. Again, I'm no expert just

It's true Civ 5 is less complex than Civ 4. You can almost feel the console influence. I enjoy the new combat system the most. I used to spend hours playing Panzer General and this combat is similar. Maybe that is why I'm glad the rest of the game gets out of the way. You still prioritize your efforts but you are not forced to micro-manage. The new city-states are a nice improvement. Ironically this is where diplomacy works the best. I e

Melamine - I said unreasonable. You may have a valid reason to hate Steam.

I have a 5 year old computer (dual core AMD - so basically minimum specs). I have everything set to medium graphics level. Game looks and plays great. Do not miss this game for some unreasonable hatred of Steam or loyalty to Elemental. You are not hurting Stardock by playing Civ 5 provided you have more than $50 in disposable income. CIV 5 definitely subscribes to the KISS method. I love when complexity manifests itself as opportunity costs without unnecess

I think you'll see more of that in the mods. Where scripting and triggers should make it easier to write a RPG than trying to balance custom units. Then again maybe I'm wrong.

Even if you just fought on one land mass with different squads it would still be fun - limited battle map would be the most limiting factor. Is tactical map size mod-able?

Just mod all the weapons as abilities - basic attacks would be punches (which were in the Btech rules set)

I suggested it to a friend of mine and he has logged more hours than I have. I wonder if that says something about being in beta and following the release drama vs. buying the game and just playing. I'm waiting for updates. He keeps telling me thanks and how much fun he is having.

I agree with some of the others who have posted here. Wait 1-2 to purchase your games. You get better games (i.e. patched), cheaper price, and the hardware needed to run the game is less expensive. Also, on the hardware side things have improved greatly. I'm using a 4-5 yr old PC and have yet to find a game I can't play. The trick is to buy a new "gaming" PC 6-12 months after the latest consoles are released. This ensures your PC is slightly more powerful a

The trick to being married is try and get the first one out of the way as quick as possible. That way you'll have more years with someone you actually like.

Personally I agree. However, you can't blame them for trying to implement a promised "out-of-box" feature as quickly as possible. They are trying to keep their promises. They are developers not politicians.

Maybe I'm alone but I didn't really enjoy the AOW series as much as I wanted to. I didn't like the long drawn out battles. You couldn't autoresolve because you best units would die. Hated trying to time out killing blows to level certain units. Most of all I hated how one AI troop would run around flipping control of your shards and resources. Don't even get me started on underground & the void (or whatever it was called). However, I really enjoyed th

Ultima III sealed the deal for me. I was hooked for life. I did have an intellivision before that though. But nothing compared to Ultima III.

My first games were with a C64 and tape drive. I used to type in the "bonus" game code that came with computer gaming magazines. Syntax errors still give me nightmares!

Well this was suggested in another thread and sounds like a solid plan.. Make them read only. I apologize for forgetting the original posters name.

Stardock is it possible for you to segregate the Dev Journals to paying customers? We are the ones who will be most interested in where the game is headed. My purchase of Elemental before beta 1 was an investment in what I hope is a new string of TBS games. You have my support and thanks for trying something new.
