Yep...old dude here.  47 is ancient in the computer gaming world!  I simply broke my normal lurking silence to say "thanks" to Frogboy and the Stardock team for Elemental.  Yes, I've had a few crash to desktops, but each patch cuts down on 'em.  What I'm thankful for is the FUN I've had...It's been a long, long time since any company has had the guts to release a turn-based strategy game.  They are not the most popular thing out there these days!  However, a long and fun strategy game that can take hours is blissful heaven for some of us.  Elemental fits the bill...and judging from Stardocks track record, it will do nothing but get better over time.

 

By the way, I purchased this at the local Wal-mart...they only had 2 copies and both were in the stockroom!  They hadn't even bothered to put it out by Thursday of last week.  PC gaming is a dying art, I'm afraid.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if some of the things we think are risque were transported back in time.  If Beatle hair cuts was rebellious, what would they have done about some of the haircuts, tattoos, piercings, etc kids get today.  I almost think they would have exploded due to how over the top the stuff would be compared to then.

42 here--First and foremost a Turn-based Strat, PC-gamer.  Nothing will beat chess of course, but I have been yearning for the "next" true sequel to Master of Magic (MicroProse) from back in the day since I dunno when.  And Elemental is very much the next evolution to that previous wonderfully made MSDOS game.  Thank you StarDock for continuing to improve this game with each patch---and it IS getting better.  |-)   Please keep up the great work at communicating with your consumers and in the effort you all are pushing forth--it's very much appreciated. *thumbs up*  

 

And even though my C64 evokes some pretty cool nostalgia, I'll stick with my current i7-gaming rig for my gaming needs.  :d

Ahhhhh, many many hours of "Sea Battle" on the intellivision with a now gone friendO:) .  We were in our 30s and those were high tech graphics :beer:

Twohawk that was mine too then went to c128, I remember Aces High (WWI air combat with a sweet bomb dropping mini game) Movie Monster!!!! <---- AWESOME game. Airborne Ranger, and this sweet ninja game I forget the name.....   I'm only 30.

I think Monopoly took the longest to load on the order of 20 mins lol, good times.

My first games were with a C64 and tape drive.  I used to type in the "bonus" game code that came with computer gaming magazines.  Syntax errors still give me nightmares!

I can't even remeber what was it.... LOAD somethin ,8,1 there was a * in there too....  

But what got me hooked was the original civilization on my friends windows 3.1 machine in DOS mode we stayed up until 7am playing it!!!

The SX 64 was freaking awesome. I was resident adviser at a catholic collage.. I used to set up in the common room and draw a crowd this was one of the earliest portable (IE before lap tops) and had 16 colors which was amazing at the time..  ahh good times games like:

Ultima III sealed the deal for me. I was hooked for life.

Remember trying to get the old DOS games to run by fiddling with CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, loading things into HIMEM, etc.?

Best accomplishment a friend I had (well, my friend did it, I just watched) was to get Falcon 3.0 and Mig 29 to work together over a null modem cable.  Falcon 3.0 came out in '91, Mig 29 musta been '92 or so.  They were cutting edge at the time, and a lot of fun to fly against a friend instead of a computer foe.  Add in the old Thrustmaster rudder pedals, programmable stick and throttle (at least I think the throttle was out at the time), and it was a good time.

Oh man...I remember that. I remember MEMMAKER and then being able to do BETTER than it. I think I learned a lot about memory in those days and the 640 K area, etc. Can't believe I did this stuff as a kid.

Holy....I played "adventure" on that. It was one of those old style text games. One of my first games outside the C64.

 

Anyway, 45 here and my kids think I am cool cuz I can still keep up with em in the games. I will game till my hands won't work any more and by then we will hopefull just need to stare at the screen to make things happen.

I was an Apple guy.   Not only do I have no recollection whatsoever of expanded vs. extended memory, but I got to use more than 8 characters to name my files.    Imagine that.

You had >8 characters to your file names, and didn't have to mess with a lot of things to get stuff to run, and a better interface and the like.

And we had, by an order of magnitude or two, better games.

I dumped my SE30 and haven't looked back...

It certainly felt like a (difficult, cheating) game a lot of times too. mem /c /p was a command I used way too much. It's sad I still remember it...

And they say gaming isn't educational. You learn more about computers being a gamer than anything else. Even now. (and it's crazy now on the hardware side)
