It is a very hard game to master. As for combat there is a fair amount of luck involved. A D10 is rolled which multiplies the effects of your troops (I think something like 0.1 * attack of your troops). Also only so many troops can fight at one time. Infantry for example can only fight directly in front of them on the little battle map. So even if you out number me 3-1, if I have good rolls, a better general (which adds to the rolls) and better troops, I win through attrition. <

If you're not familiar with the game, Europa Universalis IV (Europa IV) is a grand strategy game (a real time 4x but its pause-able) set in the 15th-18th centuries. You pick a country and led them through the eras changing history to your likeness. Its essentially a really complex but rewarding form of Risk. Anyways if you're into history, its a good time. I was wondering how the removal of encumbrance would affect trained units? Do they just get the initiative penalty (wasn't extra weight one of the troggs benefits?). Also whats to prevent me from having all platmail with no helmet? Would i still get an initiative penalty? Lastly, mqpiffle, while do you have a picture of a constipated person as your avatar?

I'm actually surprised elemental didn't go the CiV way of resources. Ie. a horse resource gives you say 12 horses. Its not cumulative, you only get the 12 horses. Tech and building upgrades would increase this number but it would really limit the amount of cavalry in an army. Edit: This could further be extended by the current system. Say you gain 0.1 horses per turn up to the current limit. Again i'm pulling numbers out of my head; th

What if each city could be assigned a governor. The governor wouldn't have to be present to buff the city? I just don't like the guy having to babysit a city all day. It doesn't feel very heroic.

I always felt that the ability to spawn a new quest should be allowed for all nations. I know Altar is about adventuring but still, it seems odd that I can't go to the local inn and see who's causing problems even if I'm say Tarth. regardless ,thanks for the info guys.

Just curious, has anything been done about the Quest Loop (Altar quest item)?

I tried playing the game on fast pace. The only thing that appears to have changed is the research time. I would like to also have the option to increase production and or leveling. This way If i wanted to play a "Dark age" game, I could have high production and slow research. The only good games I have had were on medium maps. This is because more of the map is land based. When i play a large map, they all seem to be a archipelago, which limits my exploration options. Another suggest
I think the situation could be helped with better early techs. The initial military techs are kinda lame and don't do much...a whole tech just to get a wooden shield? That's it? It would be nice to have some more early options. For armor, it might be nice to have an earlier armor level, padded or hide or something.
Yea, the wooden shield tech was always a little funny :).

I have heard several good reports about the beta 3 series so i gave it a shot. After starting 5 games, i am running into some issues. 1. Research Time Most of the researches take 20+ turns, so i often find myself surrounded by ogres and other nasties (20+ attack, ~5 armor), my sovereign needs armor. Waiting to get leather armor takes an eternity. 2. MOBS The mobs near my starting position are normally ok for 5-10 tiles out. T

Elemental has improved drastically mechanically. It functions and rarely crashes (only about every 100 turns or so not every 10). However, I have some fun issues with the following Cities The variation between cities is fairly minimal. Without a tile limit or higher maintenance cost, there is no reason why i shouldn't build one of each building; the econ can take it. Also cities grow far too slowly. Prestige should be a population growth bon

I have literally seen 0 quests in 400 turns (except to clear a wildlands boss. finally found one and they are not worht the effort. 150 attack 750 health. GOOD LORD).

Hi folks, I'm gonna talk about prestige, how it works and how it could be improved. Right now, Prestige is acquired from 3 sources (that I'm aware of) Sovereign- 1/2 your sovereign level goes to prestige Trophies- (I don't know how much because I've yet to see wildlands after games of 300-400 turn length) Administrative Heroes- Adds 1 prestige. Prestige is currently the population growth m

Frogboy I know you stated you don't want to worry about a siege mechanic but let me run something by you. New Action: Lay siege- This action allows the selected army to lay siege to a town. This gives the following effects. No units may enter or exit a sieged town All units in the sieged town will slowly lose health. since the walls in the game give defending units health, this represents the loss of moral due to low food, being sieged etc.<
Quoting CrazyHarlequin, reply 6Change the armour research system so that the three levels of armour research (leatherworking, armour, heavy armour) instead provide three different levels of improvement of three armour types, light, medium and heavy. These three armour weights function similarly to the three current armour advancement levels, except they are all available from the beginning. The three levels of research improve all three armou

Derek, please give this a read. Its probably within the realm of doing and it would add much needed tactical depth. On that front: it would be nice if armor could be "improved" through research. Much like in Gal CivII, you could research the same tech multiple times. You only need to research it once (most of the time) to be able to research the next tech but additional research could improve armor. That way Leather armor isn't obsolete so early.

[e digicons]k1[/e] I really agree that the recruitable critters ought to be more powerful. They were actually decent (well some where) in WOM. Being able to customize darklings/ogres is a must . I understand not customizing a dragon because....its a dragon. How am i going to equip a bloody dragon?. Diplomatic captial should be an alternate resource for these guys. Like you can recruit the unit for normal cost or pay the capital.</
