Elana, your goal should be a Jarl every turn as soon as you set the economy to manage that. If you get there, then I wouldn't worry about losing in 15 turns, I'd worry about everyone having to gang up to stop you ;)

Bah, forum keeps on eating my posts :p Yeah, don't rush, let's shoot for having the game up on Thursday, and pretenders submitted by Friday. As to nation choices... Well the 'straightforward' nations are most picked. I'd say if you want to go with a big bless strat take mict or Kalissa. Marverni has cheap temples and a decent spread of paths on mages. Others, I'm not overly familiar
VANILLA EARLY AGE MAP TBD (ALL SETTINGS STANDARD, BUT PLEASE ALLOW RENAMING) 1) Rasael Arco 2) Tophat WHATEVER 3) louist Caelum 4) Elana Niefelheim 5) Shadowtongue Ulm 6) EmersonPF Abysia 7) bpalczewski Sauromatia 8) Ghostwes C'tis So... Tophat? You around still??
What to do next? Well make some pretenders and try them in SP to get a feel for what your about to be playing. Otherwise once we hear from tophat someone will create a game on llamaserver and instructions on joining will follow. I've got no issues with ghostwes joining either, that would give us 8, which seems like a great number. So, Tophat? Waiting on you man :)
*sigh* ;) VANILLA EARLY AGE MAP TBD (ALL SETTINGS STANDARD, BUT PLEASE ALLOW RENAMING) 1) Rasael Arco 2) Tophat WHATEVER 3) louist Caelum 4) Elana Niefelheim 5) Shadowtongue Ulm 6) EmersonPF Abysia 7) bpalczewski Sauromatia That's 7! I wasn't actually planning on running this game, Tophat is the man who got the ball rolling.
VANILLA EARLY AGE MAP TBD 1) Rasael UNKNOWN 2) Tophat WHATEVER 3) louist Caelum 4) Elana Niefelheim or Hinnom 5) Shadowtongue Ulm 6) EmersonPF Abysia Remember, if you join, copy this list and paste it in your reply with yourself added to the end. :) MartialDoc, are you in this one? Or just going to try to start your own?
Quoting ElanaAhova, reply 60Yes, vanilla EA is fine.... how do we decide pretenders? May I try ice giants, or hinnom? Don't take Hinnom, everyone will hate you
*chuckle* I think I may have mentioned that in the other thread... ;) Not that Niefel wins you many friends either... hehe. But, learnin
Just post your nation, 1st come 1st serve. I'll start the list, then when you add yourself, copy it and put yourself on the bottom. When we get to whatever number Tophat wants he'll just say we're starting. VANILLA EARLY AGE MAP TBD 1) Rasael UNKNOWN 2) Tophat WHATEVER 3) louist Caelum 4) Elana Niefelheim or Hinnom 5) Shadowtongue Ulm Apologies if I missed yo
Cool news MD! A word of warning though for people with little MP experience. Joining a lot of games sure sounds like fun, but realize that the time commitment actually can become significant as you progress through the first dozen turns or so. Not necessarily putting in turns, but dealing with diplo and waiting for replies and such. I would very much caution against being in more than 2 games at the same time until you feel really comf
Evil powermongers are evil! *Yawn* been hearing that one for decades, maybe I'm not the one who needs the history lessons though. All these wars you mention, horrible affairs, stupid and pointless affairs, but having to do with what exactly? Oh, the arguments are always the same, resources, land, power... Meh I know better, the underlying reasons, but I'm not going to derail this thread into that debate. Because it's not germane

Meh, it's not about paradox games being 'difficult', it's about there being too many details which don't add enough substance or variation to the game mechanics. They kind of feel they are hiding a pile of poo behind so many bells and whistles that you won't notice the poo for a while. I 'mastered' EU2 back in the day, and I had fun doing it. But rather quickly after 'mastering' it I realized most of what I was doing t
Votes :) Mod: I vote for CBM 1.84, but don't mind Vanilla Ages EA (first choice for age), as Ulm (far from a powerhouse nation) MA as Machaka, again, far from a powerhouse nation, though I would NOT be playing them as their somewhat feared early rush incarnation, no, I'd do something stupid like take a double bless with good scales ;) LA as... no one, meh, really don't care for LA, but if I must then random because the only nation I k
I don't know about Dom3minions because I've never used it. Llamaserver is great though. Allows for you to resend turns, update them, all kinds of things I have found useful in the past. It's also really easy to manage turn lengths, extensions (which will be asked for and should be granted, usually), and that sort of thing. Of course maybe Dom3minions allows for all that as well. But from my past experience, everyone u
Cool, I was just clarifying my view on my participation in the game. I like the chance to at least make an army before I get smashed by someone who made a bigger one ;) But, as you may have seen in the other game, a lot of the game really is how you do the diplo. For better or worse. You need borders, you need allies, and you need targets. How that all gets sorted out is often not about how good you are at diplo, just about if you bother with mor
Weird... forum ate my last post it seems. Anyway, Elana, I think I've been pretty clear that if I'm allowed to participate in this game, it's not to bash noobs. That's pointless, and, uninteresting. I would enjoy being able to interact with allies and foes in more of a 'mentor' type of scenario, though for what it's worth, I'm sure the learning will go both ways. And it's not clear what 'role' the vet(s) woul
indeed, I would prefer less than 20, but have no interest in more than 20. So long as the map has balanced start locations you can manage with fewer and still have time to expand, fool around, before winding up in it.
Map size is important, but the measure should be provinces per player, not just total provinces. I'm not interested in a blitz game, but not everyone will agree on what a rush is. Anyway, my vote is for no more than 20 provinces per player, else the game will muddle for those who manage to grow past their alotted 20. Noobs don't need to deal with the micro of running a largeish empire in my opinion, they need to figure out how to get there, but it
Hmm... Not sure where you get the 'make bad moves to help the newbies' from, I look at it more as a coach, giving advice, pointing out things. Whether as an ally or foe, the dialogue is what's important for learning, as much as the result. And by no means am I trying to make myself out as some kind of godlike Dom3 player, I'm just someone who has more experience, and thus more familiarity with different nuances. Yes, I have won a couple
I'm not sure those faerun provinces are a good idea for a noob game. I also have no interest in playing on a map that big ;) CBM does change quite a few things, but the number of which a given nation will have to deal with is not that huge. It's not as though a player cannot play in either, but obviously you have to pick one or the other, I don't have a preference. PbEM or direct, either is fine, llamasever is the way I use
Faerun?!?!?!? Isn't that the 400+ province map??? I mean space is good, but that's... well crazy ;) And I'm more than happy to play in any capacity the other players feel is interesting, including not playing at all if you get enough noobs who don't want me there, even in a more 'coach' position. So for some ideas on mods/maps/... Mods, I'd say either
This is a fundamental problem with many people. Yes, we as a society make overall technological advancements, but trying to make resource scarcity a meaningless point by simply pointing at these advancements borders on insane.
Um, who has tried to do that? You continue to ignore the point, so be it, I'll stop bothering with it myself.
Qu
Well the issue was not 'complexity = bad' it was 'needless complexity = bad'. I can't comment on this game, because it doesn't interest me much for other reasons, but I really don't find many paradox titles to be engaging (yes, I know AGEOD is not Paradox...) because I do find the level of complexity too distracting, and ultimately pointless. Different strokes for different folks. In order for me to want to deal w
I would suggest having people with two or less games of MP under their belt instead of ten. I know from our ongoing "Elementalists" game that the people who have played a few games already seem way above those of us who have not. Anyone who has played as much as ten MP games is very far from being a newbie, and I would hate to see the effect they had on a game with complete newbies. I'm certain that would be demoralizing to the newbies to say t
10 MP games? I think I'm actually under 10, or right close to it, but no, I don't think I fit the criterion of a noob ;) Of course I haven't played MP in 2 years either. Ahh well, good luck getting people in, and I'll join if you want, but I'm fine if you don't feel I'm a good fit either.
