What three science fiction movies do you consider the best (three) of all time? For me, its Bladerunner, 2001: a Space Odyssey, and Planet of the Apes (the original). Whats your take?

[quote who="cardinaldirection" reply="19" id="3430433"] The amount of R&D that Sega has put into this over the last 15 yrs should not go overlooked. While the newest iteration in the series has not been localized yet, I know there is an extremely active public community that has created translation patches. All of it is free - I believe Sega opted for an in-game shop model. I haven't tried this latest one yet, but the communication system was already rath

@Brad Publishing on the web (amazon, etc) circumvents the big hard copy publishing companies and their editors' involvement in creating the final text(s). Might this be an option to consider?

@ larsenex; One minor adjustment to question #4. There is/are buildings (settlement upgrades? - I forget - adventurers' guild?) that grant experience points every turn to heroes stationed in the settlement. Placing heroes there will allow you to passivly get some administrators promoted. Also, there is a spell (are spells) that allow you to add experience to heroes by expending mana. This also allows you actively promote heroes to higher skill levels. </

I like XP, still have it on my laptop. But April 2014 is coming soon. I do like win7, on my desktop PC. I'm someone who games, does a lot of writing (word processing) and is moving into video (low end - independent media-type). Win7 seems fine. I'm not an under the hood gal, (as my noob questions elsewhere can attest). Is there any thing significant about win8.1 that I should seriously consider - or is 7x fine for now?

I've never played multi-player, and was not aware of the difficulties of playing with/against users that speak different languages. Seems to me the game makers should create a symbol based interface for multilayer games. Wouldn't that simulate different species who don't communicate well? Kinda like a symbol based pidgin, a basic trade/diplo language, "galact-lingo" using symbols rather than words. Then people of any language (Real life) could play. <p

@cayote re: Distant worlds game and turn based. I am with you. I strongly prefer turn based games. I play DW a lot, as a 'turn based-ish game. When i first scouted out Distant Worlds ("DW") I was put off by the RTS aspect of it. However, when I read a few posts here at SD, and then went to DW forums, I discovered that while DW is labeled a RTS game, and can be played as a RTS game, there are other viable (turn based) approaches enabled by DW's game interface. DW allows for an incredib

My resolution is to get better at re-framing each ending into a new beginning... Inspector Morse (BBC) said that as he faces mandatory retirement. Sounds good.

Ive played a few games of endless space, enjoy it (Distant worlds is still my fav... at least until GalCivIII comes out). The tech tree, with its randomization each game, does create some silly connections, but then again, its all fantasy anyway... so I enjoy that quirk as well.

Reply to Spacebase DF9 in PC Gaming

every time i see the header "Space-base DF9" I think I see "Deep Space Nine." Was choice of mane intentional homage to DS9?

I'm not even sure its really a commitment to 'identity yada' world views. I suspect that is merely the rationalization for a more basic urge turned bad: protecting morphed to seeking revenge upon those whom you think might have hurt you or your loved ones. That's the motive, and the rest is window dressing.

I love XP, (and still have it on my laptop) but went to Win7 a year ago. I run several steam games, including FE:EH. I have experienced zero problems with steam on line or off line and playing FE:EH with a mid range Nvidia graphics card. I'm no hardware or software expert, but Steam + Nvidia + Win7 operates very fine without an SSD, and with less than 12 meg ram.

Yes, the early 60's have been quite a ride. Most of my friends have passed away. Sibs as well. Seems I'm the one with longevity. And good health. George burns, look out! Therapist every tow weeks as well Uval! My stress comes mostly from desiring to make the world less vicious. Pretty laid back otherwise. And now i can go to the senior center for lunch, and see how good I have it. Oh, and lots of time for gaming and modding...
