I suppose there could be more eye candy in the final that has an impact on frame rates, but my guess is that it's the capture tool.
I've got a similar CPU as you (with my CPU b

Also I can't help but notice the portraits for the (enemy?) units. Half of them are positioned in that rigid-debug-mode sort of stance, with their arms out to their sides.

Complaining about it is like going to ball game and complaining about the pitch. Sure it might be a little different than what your used to, but the opponent has play on that pitch too, the game is not lost because of the pitch. More so by a inflexible bad attitude to adapting to different pitches, so to speak. I wouldn't read too much into this review, seems
Why would he use the zero day version to do an AAR and then release an older build? I'm pretty sure tomorrow's release will be the zero day minus the multiplayer servers...
Maybe because they're still working on the 0-day patch? It was scheduled to be released on the 24th. Just because he's playing with it doesn't mean its completed.
I thought the "early release" is the zero day patch? Didn't Frogboy say he was playing the zero day version in the latest AAR?
I just skimmed through the latest AAR - the only thing he says is " Note: This part of the AAR is being run with the Day 0 build so you will see features that weren’t in the gold edition" I haven't seen him say otherwise that we'll be getting the 0-day patch right away
With a large number of people getting access to the game before the 0-day patch goes live, it would be wise for these people to avoid posting complaints suggestions about the game until getting a chance to play the 0-day patch. Reasons being: Avoids wasting your time ranting about something, only to discover it being fixed/changed in the 0-day patch Avoids wasting the time of the developers so they can continue focusing on the getting the 0-day patc
With the current art style, 3-D grass would likely look out of place. Just my opinion anyways.
Why not just make all the buildings and units 2D as well - I don't see how adding additional 3D elements while keeping to the established art style will suddenly break the look of the game. The grass wouldn't even have to be "3D", it could just be planes oriented perpendicularly to the ground with a simple grass texture.

I like the art style, but the ground could definitely do with some more 3D elements. If oblivion could manage this: http://i44.tinypic.com/2mzmcl0.jpg there is no real reason the tactical map couldn't do something.
