I'm not trying to be rude here, just curious, but are you aware that the Beta build that we have is, at least, several full build versions behind what Stardock actually have? The game, on their servers, would be much, much further along than the Beta that we have. The first stage of the Beta didn't even have the graphics engine turned on, however it was completed long before that. They're turning on and adding individual
What's so boring in turn-based combat? It's just you making decisions. If the battle is too easy, you can resolve it automatically. If it's balanced, every decision matters, so it's not boring.
Not in multiplayer, which the last page of posts was about. In multiplayer it's you making decisions, then you making a sandwich while the other guy is making decisions. As you scale up the number of players involved, the time you spen

I wondered if the final release will work decent with this Card, because the Beta 3A doesn't work very well ?
You should submit a report on the beta forum, but don't read too much into it right now. 3A's performance is choppy on my GTX 260 as well, and that's certainly more then powerful enough for Elemental. There's some optimization work left to do. :)
If MP sucks for the first two months, by time you get around to trying it you probably won't find many people there. People don't tend to stick around online that long if something isn't fun to play (and Civ 5 is also coming out by then). Speak for yourself. I play MP games with friends on a regular basis, its hardcoded into the calendar week.
What does that have to do with what I said? :P If MP isn't fun, people ar
Well, I think it'll be really fun for LANs. I'm not worried about imbalances or just flat out poor MP at first. LANs will be my multiplayer for the first 2 months. But once my friends are bored of this game, then I hope to go truly online. That means, to me, that they have an extra few months to balance out MP and stuff before I get too worried about it. I just don't want it TOTALLY forgotten about.

Competitive RTS. Single-player focused TB 4X. I would expect most RTSs to have 3-5 races tops (the one I currently play has 5 and is going to expands one more each year). Simply because balance is so important in that game. Compare to Civ, where the racial differences are much smaller in comparison to Starcraft. Additionally, I believe that it'll be "no doubles". There isn't an issue going Terran v Terran in Star
I dunno. I don't really like the direction they are taking with custom created factions, races and units. It's basically an "in-place mod". It seems like it could easily be wildly unbalanced and the custom factions was something that I liked for Multiplayer. Sure, certain combos would undoubtably be better than others. But if there are ONLY TEN GODDAMN INITIAL FACTIONS then how can you have 16 man multiplayer? Plus, I'm sure some

Auto-resolve just runs tactical battles under the covers with it being AI vs. AI. really? not some stupid total war auto resolve stuff (basically it just compared army strength but did not actually run a real combat)? doesn't this slow the game down when there are huge armies colliding and i choose auto resolve?
Computers have gotten dramatically faster since tha

How do we give the special abilities to units? Is it something trainable, or do you have to mod them (and to mod them I assume you modify the unit's XML to add a reference to the ability?)?

The revival land thing was changed, you don't need to do it anymore. Essence is (or was) spent to do something like create a fertile land farming plot. Caravans do create roads, and they do provide trate route income as the caravans move back and forth. I'm not sure about the unit movement speed. Lumber mills provide materials at a much higher rate. Used to be able to build them on any forest tile, now you need an "old growth woods" resource to bu

However, I do agree that in hindsight, we would have benefited by enabling the graphics engine earlier so people could provide feedback based on what the game looks like in its mostly complete state. We will have an opportunity to address this as the first expansion pack for Elemental is due out in

Pretty sure Stone Prisoner comes with every new copy. But the stuff they released afterward was pretty weak for the price (Awakening was an expansion and was better, yeah). It's a common DLC thing. They seem to have some minimum price they don't want to go past, no matter how weak the content really is. I mostly blame the Xbox crowd for making all developers think that people will pay for a map pack (since the Xbox crowd WILL pay for a map pack).

Pulled this off the official forums, in regards to the Real ID fiasco. Usual grain of salt applies, but it fits the situation very well.
“Got in touch with my ex-flatmate, whose sister works as a GM for Blizzard, to see what the internal buzz on this was. Froggie has mentioned special abilities in one of his posts here in the dev. subforum. Archers will have secondary weapons. IIRC this has been confirmed. I hope that dual wielding will be implemented as well later on. [We've talked about it a while ago, and it's not in yet because of some animations related stuff.]
Secondary weapons was t
I like C as well, especially if you can design units via equipping them with things that break the rules. I think making sure we have the ability to create rulebreaking units is important to unit diversity. If we're only deciding attack/defense and hitpoints then the idea is just to make the best we can. For example creating a unit with a "first strike" like ability that allows them to attack first whether they are defenders or
