2: All of nothing unbalanced battle game mechanics. (this finally killed it for me) I found myself Auto-calculating many battles towards the end. There were many places where I just couldn't breach an opponents armor with my seasoned units. I had to build new larger groups with more modern weapons in order to be able to compete in the tactical battle. I had lots of units, a huge civ...and couldn't puncture thr
Public opinion polls in Canada tend to use 2000ish people, and that's to cover a population of 30 million. If you look at the number of regular posters on the Elemental forums (even from just this week and not the much quieter beta period), this is a HUGE sample in comparison. A lot of people we
5. Damage is still too high relative to hit points. One of the biggest problems with combat is that very often the first strike can wipe out the other unit entirely. This means that the tactical combat AI is far too easy to exploit. All I have to do is move my guys such that you *just* can't reach my soldiers. Then you charge forward with all your movement, and stop. And then I attack you and destroy your entire unit while suffering n
Quoting Bashemgud, reply 1Agree on the equipment cost. Early game you make around 5 gildar a turn. Why is a wooden club costing me 60 G ? A full set of paded armor, will cost 150 G +. Lots of money for very little gain imo. And a dagger costs almost as much as a warg? no imo its fine the point is still the randomness of armor so having 6 7 armor is nearly nothing but in general its

Some of the problems people are talking about were fixed Tuesday night. Some of them only happen with ATI video cards. Some of them are just plain odd (like certain AI factions simply doing nothing all game). And some of them are stuff like balance problems, which definitely exist but aren't as flashy as crash bugs.

These guys make money off reviewing games made by companies like Stardock. Also granted Stardock is an Indie and not one of the super major companies like EA or Atcivision. Still, I think the guy who did the article should of had a lot more Respect. Most people already know these sites are half crooked and the large companies Buy their reviews. As such the

As for the current problems, I'm surprised... as of 1.05 I still had a few CTDs, OOM and sudden decline in performance. As of 1.05

It does work if you put the target in a tile alone, next to the sovereign. But they only get 3 essence, so they really can't cast much of anything. It takes a couple levels before they're functional casters, and unless they start with high INT a few more after that before they're really effective.

So long as it's possible for defense to simply not work when you roll badly, champions will always be incredibly fragile. It matters less with stock units because you can just train more, but you c

He's not a peasant!
Since a squad can defeat multiple squads, why not? A single champion takes the same amount of stack space as a squad, and requires a lot more cost and time to build (and can't be replaced nearly as easily). &nb
There seem to be major balance issues in combat. I can quickly build units that utterly dominate others. My favorite example are units using Lord Hammers which can be obtained in the earliest stages of the game. Lord Hamer's have an attack rating of *40* which is absurd. stack of 3 guys with no armor and Lord Hammers pretty much roll through everything at this stage. Stacks including more than 3 are the equivalent of the Death Star. Which leads me to: M
Very good write-up, I too agree with most of what you wrote. On heroes: Right now they are just very underpowered and expensive single units, they have no character. There are several ways to fix this: - One is to take the brute force approach and scale their hp/attack/defence with their level.. a level 10 champion should have 300 hp, not 30. It's the approach I favor the least since it shows no immagination. <

The potential is there and there's a lot of good ideas, but there are major balance issues that need looking at. In particular the combat system and how damage is calculated. It's just too easy for units in the mid to late game to one shot anything anytime a bad defense roll happens. Also, the AI on normal doesn't seem to expand or defend itself at all. It just sits there with one outpost waiting for me to come smack it. So at the moment, disappointed. But the problems are fix

Have your sovereign stand somewhere, then tell your other units to walk to that same spot. They'll combine into a group and can move around as a group. You can have 10 "units" group that way (but if you train a squad of 4 units at once, that counts as a single unit). If you make a custom sovereign you can get a skill that lets everything grouped with the sovereign move at the sovereign's speed, so the travelling boots in the item shop will speed the whole army up. Very cool. :)

Here's mine from tonights game, where VM usage shot way up (LCD Miscellany on my G15 keyboard reported 7GB, went down to 2GB after closing Elemental): http://www.hiredgoons.ca/elemental/debug2.err Turns were definitely slowing down by the end.

Got some significant time in with the patched version. Likes: 1) Running around finding all the monsters to fight is pretty cool. 2) Love the item shop and how it gets new things when the towns level. Might be neat if they cycle stock randomly sometimes. 3) I actually liked the idea of new resource nodes appearing from techs, though some others haven't. 4) Imbuing a champion to make a new spellcaster, particularly since my sovereign was melee oriented.<

1. Population grows it, as does a Town Hall. At least, that's what I've found. I'm not really sure how to predict it yet. 2. There's not much to spend metal on, and those things are deep in the warfare tree. A surprising amount of equipment takes materials and gold, but not metal. 3. Right click seems to cancel some things for me, not sure if it'll work there. 4. Not that I know of. 5. I've seen heroes still wandering around much later in, yeah. 6. You
