What I saw in the game is that my machine won't be able to run it if I expect anything at all to look good. THey either need to find a way to optomize the graphics and reduce polygon counts, or we with slower machines have to turn everything down and the game loses almost all of it's shine. Which is why I am passing on this game for now.
The demo comes out on the 21st. Give that a try and see how it runs.

There's a demo on the steam page for those who are curious. It's fairly lengthy and gives you a good idea of the gameplay. I was having a lot of fun right up until I got flattened in the dungeon. Then I lost all my stuff and didn't have enough to make the payment! [e digicons]x_x[/e] Going to put it on my wishlist since my birthday is coming up, and people always complain that I don't want anything. :P
It would be naive to believe that the majority are happy about the state of the game, simply because they aren't vocal about it. I guess you missed the poll that showed nearly 60% are happy with the game in the state it is in. That is a majority so that makes you naive to think just because you and your little troll friends don't like the game that the majority doesn't either.
There's some very mixed messages in this
You know, the item shop, as is, is one of the things I like most in the game. I hope they don't change a thing. If they do change something, I hope it's not to pile another layer of complexity on top of it. There's enough things going on already. The focus should be on refining those things, not adding more.
There's been a number of ideas suggested. Everything from changing the roll distribution towards something more normalized (ie: 2d5 instead of 1d10 for a 10 attack) to introducing a To-Hit stat and roll (dodge already exists) and using attack/defense just for damage, to what I still favor in removing the defense roll entirely and instead have defense act as damage mitigation that reduces the attacker's Attack stat and thus lowers incoming damage while still leaving some randomness. Next Tuesday. :) There were some really neat things in there. I particularly liked how the fog of war adapts based on the terrain. He could see a hill that was outside his normal view, because they're easier to see (same with the volcano natural wonder).
Paypal is one of the best scams going."We'll just keep the money"? Seriously? No legitimate outfit could pull a racket like that.
I totally agree with your concept Tridus ... and actually while I started with 10 + (X/5 * level) My current formula of choice is HP = Consitution*((level-1)/3) so basically your HP increases by "Constitution" every 3 levels ... and it also works retroactively. So, assuming you don't add any points to Constitution, your HP doubles at level 4, increases 50% by level 7, and increase

They are not afraid to dirty their hands with modding or setting up servers.
This stance is based on simple economics. If a Linux port is going to cost $100,000 to build and support, there has to be enough sales to make that back to make it worthwhile. There isn't.
AFAIK the tech tree functions basically the same way (though with the usual rearranging). What's changed in research is that there's no research slider. Gold and beakers are now two seperate things, you don't turn one into the other.
People worry too much about balance. Look at fall from heaven. Very little balance there, but its heaps of fun anyway. Games with pvp and ladders need balance (ie sc2), not (primarily) single player tbs. Not at the cost of fun anyway.
The squads in Elemental with 40 attack hammers aren't balanced, and that detracts from the "fun" considerably because someone with those can pretty
It's just a matter of numbers. The number of people who would buy a Linux version who WON'T buy and just play it on Windows if there is no Linux version is so small that it's insignificant. That's why pretty well nobody makes Linux ports at this point.
I wasn't clear enough in the initial post, Rabenhoff. Thanks for prompting me to clarify. When I said "Allow Sovs to get 10 HP (just a number to throw out, obviously this needs to be balanced) per level and modify this by the Constitution bonus/penalty" I meant that it would work a lot like you are suggesting (I think). I'd see it working out like this at level up: Hit points gained for

Gameroni: B Found this from the Three Moves Ahead podcast that Brad was on a few days ago.
There's going to be a live steam of the game Monday at 4pm Eastern . Good chance to see how things really work, assuming it doesn't get overloaded.

I been feeling like a new game lately and I saw advertised that they had the kid'd donation going on so I figured I would try a couple things. I really like how they put colour into stuff also. This is Vashj'ir (its underwater)
The Constitution thing is the main issue. Why do normal units gain HP when they level, whereas a hero has to spend extremely valuable points for the same, and really gets very little out of it? HP should scale with level, and CON should just make it scale faster.
Most races have a fast unit, or you can summon something fast. Just use that to retake nodes and don't use your army on it. Your best bet is to form a strong stack with a hero or two and the best units you can make, and simply go find and crush an enemy. You can use any other heroes to make a squad to defend your territory against attacking AIs. What race/magic are you taking? If you want something easier to start with, take Undead, and all six Death books. Then for skills take Anarch
