Stand alone. FAQ #1 -Othello
Othello
Removing weapon/armor research and making weapon/armor creation dependent on having a blacksmith building (or subsequent upgrade of a blacksmith for stronger weapons) or dependent on city size may decrease the amount of turns until the player feels like he's advancing in the game. Maybe also replace the current weapon/armor research with research improving the capabilities of various weapons. - Othello
Very encouraging! Please keep the type of aggression (be it military or magic or a mix) dependent on the resources you start around. It individualizes each game played. In the short term it may seem disappointing if you only want magic gameplay but can't have it each game. But long term, it would keep each game interesting and varied to the next, and overlay strategic choices the player would have to use to their advantage. Will each goldmine, and like structure, benefit from
How modding seems to me, your marketing department could sell Elemental as a virtual Lego's or a Sims for adult males. Making cool things to see in game was the main draw for me to Spore, the gameplay put a stop to my purchase. No one would accuse Elemental of having Spore like gameplay of course. - Othello
Frogboy, the evil capitalist in you can take comfort in those unused mod assets. They will encourage modders to buy the game. They will put money in your pocket. I bet there could even be a formula figured out for included assets to sales. Your modding example makes it harder to wait for beta 4. - Othello
Stardock has been re-opening the betas during each beta generation; i.e. beta 1, beta 2, beta 3. but not for beta 1-c, beta 3-a and the like. So if things continue as they have been, i would guess you wont get in until beta 4 - Othello
or maybe add really fat guys, too much beard and cleavage! You should be able to request a marriage from your enemy, without actually having to find someone of the opposite gender, for diplomatic reason, or marry someone from inside your city walls. - Othello
I was thinking of an out and out one person wins all, one looses all. But I like the idea of rebellious cities, autonomous npc cities. Not all of the cities would become the victors, the stronger/larger cities would have a chance of resisting, but not the the oncoming city demolishing retributive volcano [e digicons]O:)[/e] - Othello
Why not get rid of hexes and squares all together. Make movement like warhammer 40k (the board game) or Total War's map screen. - Othello
For Whom the Bell Tolls - E. Hemingway It's to the point. It's expletive brilliant. - Othello
Left 4 Dead 2 was $10 Max Payne 1 & 2 $3.79 DEFCON, Darwania, Multiwania, Uplink pack $5.00 Civilization 4 Complete is $10 today EVE: Online $1.99 It's an impressive sale. The daily deals even more so. - Othello

I already volunteer my time to proof read for Project Gutenberg, this would be a pleasure. - Othello Well that explains the typos in my copy of the Divine Comedy.....
Sorry Strager, wasn't me. I'll see what I can do about it.

I did four years of technical writing back in the 90's and even if my skills are rusty I work for cheap these days as a returning college student. Thanks for the offer. We have Jason Ocampo working on it (formerly editor of IGN and Gamespot).
For cheap? I'll proof read it for a spot in the credits. I already volunteer my time to proof
Imagine how terrible it would be to conquer a city and strip it of it's identity to assimilate it into your rule but can't even change the name! Horrifying! (In all seriousness not being able to rename them is the Elemental version of a paper cut. Not tragic but annoying.) - Othello
Imagine there's a stalemate in the combat and you want to cut to the chase. You could challenge the opposing sovereign to a duel. Like Sauron vs. Gandolf. The winner gains all of the losers cities and armies. A duel might be integrated into the end of a battle containing two sovereigns. Maybe the winner could attempt to force a duel. Maybe it's an option to be agreed upon at the end or beginning of a battle. As for how it may play out, the obvious of a fighting system would be

It happened only after the caravans have built lots of roads in close proximity - Othello
Ill try that Sythvipers. The problem has been a deterrent from BETA testing the game. EDIT: worked
I can confirm this. It's happened to me every game in .803 - Othello
When I try to load a save maybe 300+ turns into that game it stays loading indefinitely; leaving a task manager close program the only option. - Othello DXDIAG via pastebin.com

There was a game a few years ago called Hinterlands. "Champions" would come to your city and a list would be prepared of them. You had a limited amount of time to accept them or you could send them away to free up a spot for a different champion. The more recognition (fame/honor etc.) the better and more specialized the unit would be. It was the only good thing about the game. It would be a perfect fit for Elemental. You could still have uber wandering champions, but there would always be cha
Is it possible to rename cities? If not, think it would be a nice addition. - Othello
Troops don't cost food. Let's keep it that way. Just increase wages for the logistics but don't mix them with food.
I agree. If food remains the same, without apiaries or farm land you would have a tiny army. - Othello
When you've discovered a new tech, you have several options to choose from. When you click on one possibility it brings up a list of what you get or what will be upgraded. It would be very helpful if the tiny icons would give a more detailed description than just naming what they are (i.e. "mine: a mine let you gather ore to build better units"). You would be so lost when just starting out with elemental. - Othello
