How about food being the local resource. Building cities is easy because of global food abundance. If the food was local we'll have the big cities, filled with population around fertile land and much smaller outposts. How to provide the outpost with food? That's a tricky one. Basically we can't use caravans cause they are defenceless and there are too micromanagement involved...

I made a little log about one whole game running on patch 1.09 map: tiny, difficulty: normal This report contains the main events of the game and is filled with issues / suggestions mostly about UI. Thing were writen right when I played and had it 'fresh' in mind. That was real alt+tab test for the game:) I've included some screenshots and saves for every 100 turns (game ended at T403). During the game I've got 2 CTD and one OOM error. <a
I've checked the T96 save and indeed it works?! Now with autosave 1) Choose Harvesting 2) Watch the caravan getting destroyed 3) Choose Imperium technology branch 4) Right click Varga (it will autoresolve because of threshold I guess) 5) Hit EndTurn... BAM!
It seems that 1.09 is not lucky for me. I started a game log trying to respont to Frogboy's request 'Send us saves and we'll know how you play' stated in other thread. I've managed to get to turn 96 and stumbled on solid, replicable CTD. The diary, debug, dump and save available here P.S. Any english speakers out there. Please accept my apology for what I did with
It happend to me in 1.08 after massive AltTabbing (ircing:)). Save/load didn't help. Need to exit and start the game over.
Maybe you've plopped the hut in really early game when no enemy city is founded yet?
I think that is possible right now but it's glitchy, the building list changes but the map doesn't.. or the other way.
That's nice. Late game city building and economy needs refinement. And the cities are developing linear. The global resources pool decides that always the first founded city will be the biggest in the end:/ I wonder what solution will it be. I hope it'll beat the Civ standards:D
Cities report. Nice:) Nothing about specialists. Is the idea postponed/dropped?
Well that was little sugestion to patchmakers:)
I'd say - check if the card isn't overheating. I use nvidia for years and don't recall 'driver stopped working' error. Well, maybe it's Win7 specific.
Turn off the camera focus on build and it should work fine:)
There is a rendom map generator. Chack out the mod section of the forum. And about the roads. I wish they were more "natural". Not just straight, diagonals and certainly the roundabouts are jujst not fitting to fantasy world.
Well, at least Civ5 is pretty:D The UI is nice. Once I saw pop-up in wrong order - something that is common in EWoM. To say the true I haven't encountered any bug (apart of load bug) and haven't seen any slowdowns. And I'm not much about ballance and numbers. Just enjoying Chieftain lvl on small maps. And watching how the roads are being built.
"Had my Soverign raise a thin land bridge to get from one to the other. " How? Isn't the raise land spell for "plains to hills, hills to mountain and not water into land"?
Disagree with OP. Lots of resources and economy change made the first cities development challenging and fun. What bugs me is later game city development which is quite boring. Every city looks quite the same. There should be much more types of buildings, even buildings that grow on it's own (I love how the suburbs appears in Civ5).
That's a common thing while conquering AI cities. First thing I do is demolishing huts and tech research buildings.
Buy a decent desktop. I use laptop at work but can't imagine that could be my game machine. I'm using 4 yers old machine with just one major upgrade (CPU) and it handles all current games in HD res.
I do miss it in games. Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft have them and they were great. That's a bit hilarious when you win the 10 or more hours struggle and all you get is static picture with 'Victory, 45 points' info:(
Off in strategic but definetely on in tactical. When at strategic map I want to 'feel' the world and the grid would spoil that experience. At tactical the much important is where are mine and enemy units, what is the range of move and spells/range attack and overall what is happening and without grid that would be hard.
XP 32, Q9650, GTX8800, SB X-Fi, 3GB RAM. Very rare OOM crashes. Can play few hundred turns. I think the standard 'Send report to MS' crashes are more frequent.
I wonder what will 'UI refresh' include. It's a nightmare to play some Homm or Civ and go back to Elemental. Many thinghs needs polishing or even reworking. Also city development at late game is just..borring. Just spam every improvement and go on. If there were more mega-structures (civ wonders kind) allowing deeper specialization. And more dependancies of the resources that'll be cool. Early economy started to be challenging at 1.08 but I guess leveling arcane is too simple.</p
At about 200th turn I have tons of materials and I don't really know what to do with them. In every game. I can sell them once to minor faction but what then? I agree that the metal and crystal are hard to get in 1.08. Last game I've got my first metal mine after about 400 turns by research of ventri mine.
Checked that today. No focus at auto resolve didn't block the End Turn. The battle autoresolves at the beginning of the next turn. Encountered EndTurn block with ship set to autoexplore. And also ship without autoexplore but set somewhere in the fog. Also tried to set aute explore to a ship in port and got info 'No Auto move order error':)
