No.
The new channeler should also remain at the strength of a very powerful hero at most to keep from unbalancing the game. After all, the strongest heroes have likley been around for a long time and have a lot of magic invested in them by thier channeler, in some cases, more then the new channeler can cast in total. The new channeler can't simply show up and surpass their experince and magic. And channelers are not born powerful, tehy become powerful over centurys, something t

Naw, if i have 10 women in harem, each will only be spending 1/10 the time with me, thus less power for each. After it falls below a certain threshold, its no different then if the person is naturally lucky. Of course, anyone in my harem would be the luckiest gal around anyway. [e digicons]:D[/e] And actually, that would balance out pretty well. One wife gets powerful but has few kids, 20 concubines stay weak but make hordes of kids for you to use.

Yes folks, its another thread by yours truly. Usual disclaimers, Already talked about, agasint lore, so-on and such-and-such. In another thread( https://forums.elementalgame.com/375417 ) i was talking about how having the possiblity of marrying a peer would be nice. Didn't want to be stuck some arm accessory for a wife for next 1000 years. Flailed around trying to find something that would fit lore, but the only things really in a lauge with channelers are dragons, and

Now *that* is a fearsome foe. But i am pretty sure the lucky charm elf would beat them all. After all, he can fire off stars!

Rather then being only one path in a traditonal TBS, its more like a fan or numerous paths with dozens of grey shadings. In your system, you either have to go all one way or the other, or cut it right down the middle or you will end weaker then everyone else.
This proposed system does not force you to expand (that much) if you want to be great in magic, due to the % based gauge.
You don't have to expand to be powerful in magic as the game is right now IIRC. Yes, i get that. However, what if i want to have powerful magic AND kill the natives? My issue is that with your suggestion, you can either help natives and have strong magic, or hurt natives and have strong military. What if someone wants to hurt natives and be magical focused? or help natives but have powerful military? The system your proposing locks every empire into 2 basic paths. Or, if you want to stay neutral, you have to sit there and count how many natives tribes you have ki
In the case above, when the SOV choose to Co-habitat with the native (still need to imbue the land with essence), the "Magic/Might gauge" is increased by 1. When a SOV choose to establish a new city the traditional TBS way, the gauge is deceased by 1.
What if i want my master race to control the world, and to exterminate every other species from the world? And i want to actually be able to cast spells?
The only way to enjoy the full understanding of Mag

I can't think of any game that did well that included the base chance for failure in your spells or ablities. Sure, crafting, enchanting, that kind of thing had failure chances, but casting a fireball? never.
I like the idea of the chance of success increasing as the caster becomes more powerful, but giving faster access to mid level casters to the cool stuff. It creates much more varied game flow than the "optimal research path" that almost invevitably devlops in TBS games.

Actually, now that i think about this a little more, it could cause some serious problems, if you really need a city somewhere or you need a city to increase its pop fast or build in a certain way, you might not be able to influence it fast enough. If there is an organic system we would need the ability to have incentives that give a pretty much 100% success rate. They could be expensive to balance it out, but i would hate to lose the game because my citizens were too dumb to build warehouses

Sure there are repercussions. If you know who did it, then stop being thier ally and smack them around. That or players are likley to earn a rep as being trust worthy or not.

Perhaps it could be done like irl cities pop up. If there is a zone that is monster free and has some useful resource, the harvesters head out to use it. And then a couple merchants head out to sell to the harvesters. Then you need an inn so all those folks can get drunk. Have some kind of score for each location and if the score is high enough, people just start living there. It would take a while to get a real city, but it would be organic. It would also ensure that citys are built in decen

Not leakage like loseing it, leakage like regular people leak heat. Random stray radiation coming off him. Only if your wife spends lots of time wrapped around you, she should absorb a lot of it. Actually, it would be kinda cool if that applied to anywhere the channeler spent a lot of time or units that spent time near him. Just being near the channeler a lot should make a unit stronger.

Ya, pretty sure everyone knows who torin is. And tbh, if you go paladins without the warlord/crusade combo, halfling champion slingers will still kill you. Get a save editor and go sand box it. 9 champion sligners vs 9 elite paladins. The paladins won't even reach the slingers. And IIRC, slingers are basic halfling ranged infantry and thier upkeep is 1 food, no gold. TBH, i play myrran races 95% of the time, so i might be wrong, but i am pretty sure that champion slingers kill anythin

No, pretty sure they are poorly written. I can see lots of things i could of done better. As for wives, even if there is only one, its still just the wife accessory. Even if nothing else, sleeping with a channeler should give her some serious powers just from essence leakage after a few decades. Its my wife, my partner, my mate. I don't want her to just be a picture in the game and simply function as a womb on legs. I would like her to actually have a real role to play.

Ya, in most fantasy games, death isn't permanent. Actually, for those of you who played ME2, its also not permanent in sci-fi either apparently. And TBH, i always assume that any game that only has ironman saves is a game too hardcore for me seeing as i am flesh and blood, not a cylon [e digicons]:cylon:[/e] . I can see an optional ironman mode being included, but no should be forced to play that way.

Ya, your probably right. They want to encourage more ideas and writing the rules in stone and handing them out chill some folks off. Ahhh, giving devs the benefit of the doubt, haven't done that since '98? feels good.

Naw, tolkien didn't have any room left in bag of ripping-folks-off for WoW. Tolkien just ripped off every other fantasy story of the time, and the ones he didn't rip off, he declared to be not "real" myths, since he didn't like them. He was a total asshole. He went to another mythologist's funeral who he hadn't liked and spent 30+ minutes talking about how the guy was wrong and all his work was wrong and how the world is better now that he is dead. Tolkien was like the poster boy for assholes

TBH, i would happy if you could marry one of your more powerful heroes and expand her lifetime. I just don't want to be in a long game and be on wife # 138 or some such and i need to read the barcode i stamped on their forehead to remember their number. I just want the soverign to have an actual partner, not an accesory that ranks below his favorite slippers in importance. Have they described how channelers are made yet? IIRC they said a few are born every now and then, ve

Intresting but, as said above, it leaves us evil channelers out in the cold. This would mean that i have to play nice with one group in order to get my skin-flaying spell. And good channelers would need to randomly slaughter some things in order to have any troops. Nice idea but its entangled in good V evil.

13 Replies 11,680 Views

Any time you have a massive power that has a backfire chance, you end up with two groups of players. One never uses the spell unless they have nothing left to lose. They consider the risk not worth the reward. The other group casts it every chance they get and trusts to luck. TBH, i am not a big fan of the RNG being in charge of such an important thing. The only time a spell should have a fizzle/backfire chance is when another channeler is interferring in your casting.

Adamantium is pretty much myrran only. TBH, champion slingers are stronger too. being 2 levels above max really gives them some punch.

Its why i am just tossing ideas out. I figure if there are any good ones the devs will pick up on them and the crappy ones can just sink to the bottom of the boards. And i can't help it if i have trouble thinking from teh perspective of the weakling peasents. Speaking from the perspective of a depraved emperor with vast armys just seems to come naturally to me. That is arthas with the sword frostmourne. Its from Warcraft 3, and got incorporated into world of warcraft. And ovbiously i did think one ring before frostmourne, but frostmource fits just as well as the one ring. Spoilers for WC3 below! beware!! Arthas is the heir to human kingdom of goodness and is paladin in training. The Lich King decides to use him as his ultimate champion, so he sets him up.
