Just make sure you avoid the 10 minute load times the battles "Magic: Total War" would inevitably have. IMO long load times are the biggest disincentive to playing battles in that series. One thing I would like to know: will it be possible to make soldiers pretty much invincible against standard enemy grunt units? Like in Dwarf Fortress when a single adamantine clad soldier takes out an entire seige of goblins or orcs and is capable of doing so until they die of old age.

Uh oh, I think Frogboy is crossing the line this time. Now he is impersonating the devs! Quick, someone call a dev so he gets perma-banned from the forums! [e digicons][/e]
Close. As far as I remember, the most effective source is of biofuel is... weeds. As in perrenial grasses and such. No replanting required, no real maintainence. The only places humans need to use fuel is the initial planting and the harvesting. However, it is not, as you claim, carbon neutral. Since it requires use of fuel to produce the fuel, there is more carbon given off than is collected. How efficient production is would determine how effective of a power source it could be. IMO, w
I think we may see a movement away from photorealism in games. Sure, it looks nice, but it takes huge amounts of resources to create such a game with such amazing levels of detail. The problem is, when all games start looking photorealistic, people will realize that everything looks more or less the same. Once the variable of the style of art is taken out, the only real difference in looks which is left will be the scenery itself. And while there are plenty of possible scenery items for games
Wow. My city just had the Cities XL version of a Dwarf Fortress tantrum spiral. And guessing by the way the city played out, it will inevitably happen to you on just about any map the game comes with if you decide to play single player. This is caused by the exorbitant prices charged by the AI for goods as well as some of the game's basic mechanics. As far as I can tell, the best way to increase your economy is with offices and high tech industry. These generate plenty of revenue and
I have the game, and from what I can tell, so far it is far from a finished game. Online play is slow and laggy, even with setting at low. Solo mode means you can only trade with the AI corporation, pretty much making that aspect of the game useless due to the AI's high selling prices and low buying prices. So in multiplayer, you can't build a big city easily because it slows way down due to lag, and in solo you can't build to big of a city because the maps just don't have the resources
Anger? Discuss politics. And be sure to say you believe the counter to everything the other person does. With politics, its easy to make someone PO'ed. [e digicons][/e]
First off: DF ftw! *cheer* Second: yes, it would be possible for an experience modder to create a game like what you are advocated from the elemental engine. One of the things stated by the devs is that the game itself will be pretty much all scripted except for the engine and some other critical components. This means if you are a good enough modder, you can create an elemental mod which does exactly what you are wanting. However, I would expect it would take a pretty
I watched the premiere on hulu, and it looks like it will be pretty good. I would have to agree with it having a sort of BSG style to it, although I would bet that will change after a few episodes when they start putting in better lights and sprucing the place up a bit. Oh, and the part where the planet exploded? That was awesome.
Banned for claiming you have mighty wisdom and misspelling a word in the same sentence.
WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE. I think Frogboy just lied to us. The 64 bit version will have a maximum of 16.8 exobytes of RAM. I would assume additional players will require additional data' at the very least a few bytes to store variable related to each character. So the maximum number of players would probably be something like 2 quadrillion, NOT infinite. [e digicons]8C[/e]
Ya, but think about it... Does DRM on EA games really matter? I mean, it's not like the quality of the games will have you coming back 10 years later to play them again. Heck, most of their recent releases would be lucky to see a week of play time if I were to buy them.
Well... This is based off a modified idea from my American History proffessor from a few semesters back. For the ultimate terrorist attack: 500 terrorists infiltrate the USA, and spread themselves out across the nation's states, 10 per state. Day 1: 2 or 3 terrorists per state enter large schools, heavily armed, killing all adults and 99% of students, leaving a small handful alive, and extremely traumatized; similar to leaving a single soldier alive in a war to report back a
Heh... Turns out you just have to tell their site you are from the EU to get in. [e digicons];P[/e] So far I've played for about an hour, it is interesting. The graphics are really nice, and they run well on my 9800GTX+ (settings at high w/ antialiasing at x2). It did crash on me, but seeing as this is a demo a month from release, that is to be expected... For the most part crash bugs get fixed within weeks of released, so no worries there. Seems I will likely be ordering
Strange, we already have the demo in UE. And funny, we can't buy CitiesXL from Impulse... Hum, I smell a big conspiracy
Well then by all means get on that demo and tell me about it! [e digicons][/e] But ya, from what i've seen the dates they are setting are a bit... odd. The US demo doesn't come out til the 8th, and unlike most games it is released a day after the EU... However, from the impressions i'm getting online, it looks like it could be quite fun.
I would pre-order cities xl... but the last city building game I bought before reading the pc gamer review ended up leaving a $40 sour taste in my mouth. Sim City Societies was really bad. [e digicons]:typo:[/e] Unfrotunately the demo for cities xl doesn't come out til the 8th, so I have no idea whether or not it is worth getting... So no pre-order for me, even if it does end up costing me $10 extra.
The end of the world: Now coming 3 times a decade. The world won't end until it falls into the sun. Humans have a variety of possible ways of dieing. However, if we do manage to become a space-faring race, we probably won't go down for millions of years.
Hehe... Oligarchy spelling fail. John Stewart is awesome. I watch every one of his episodes on hulu.
Ah, much better comparison pictures than the other thread. In this comparison it is obvious which one is best.
Oh, and another note on Dwarf Fortress... Don't play it if you don't have a lot of spare time you don't mind losing. Dwarf Fortress ate my June. [e digicons]:'([/e]
Dwarf Fotress. I'm not entirely sure if it is considered open source, but you can access the original source code (mostly so people can optimize the coding, and resubmit it to be tested, as the game runs much slower than it could). It is also heavily moddable via the raws.
You want us to stop saying those words, eh? There's no way to change your mind, eh? But, I guess that is your wish, eh? So be it. Eh? [e digicons][/e] I wish I could watch blizzcon. [e digicons]:'([/e]
Ah, here's what I was looking for... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EveryoneIsJesusInPurgatory PS: sorry for ruining someone's day by getting them stuck in the black hole which is tvtropes for a few hours...
First off, I suggest locking teams. AI will always, ALWAYS get friendly with one another, and then begin sending huge, joint fleet attacks against you. In one game, (albiet many patches ago) I had a game with unlock teams, all AI set to unfair difficulty. Within a couple hours, I had about 6 of them sending huge waves of ships against my planets; I only survived by fleeing to a neighboring system, barely managing to colonize a new planet before they completely owned the 6 or so I had. So make
