"Don't use single letter variables." As someone who has programmed a simple genetic algorithm on my TI-84 calculator, I can attest to how important this is. By the end I needed to write down all the variables and what they were for on a peice of paper, and had

I don't think many people play real strategy games online, period. Sure, there are plenty whole play those twitch based, build order oriented ones, but games which are strategic rather than tactical are usually to long for multiplayer. Because as everyone knows, as the length of a game increases, the chances of something catastrophic happening to the players' computer causing inability to continue approaches 1. FPS games usually have plenty of people on multiplayer, unless t

IMO, as long as possible without letting the technology on which the game engine is built become obsolete. As long as by the release date the game doesn't look like it is outdated (mostly graphically), I would say... Carry on development! Also, those things on the top of the monther are definately trees. If you look, there are at least 2 other trees further on the thing's back. It looks like one of WoW's creatures on growth hormones... http:/

This is the sort of business model I can't stand. It goes like so: 1. Show awesome looking demos 2. Drop huge chunks of the game which were shown in the demos 3. Overhype the now barebones game 4. Release the game, and people buy it riding on the wave of hype around it 5. Slowly release content which should have been there in the first place and charge people (alot of) money for it.

Yep, occassional crashes and lockups, as luckmann describes above. However, they are infrequent enough to be annoying at worst, but far from game breaking.

I love the amazing amount of BS they pack into their first QA question on the site: "The Old Republic represents a new approach to online entertainment, featuring immersive storytelling, dynamic combat, and groundbreaking companion characters." A new approach to online entertainment... Let's see, can you think of any MMO whose devs would ever call it an old approach? I can't. Heck, even WoW says it! From WoW's general FAQ: "World of Warcraft d

Wow, by the looks of it, there won't even be spaceships (player controlled ones anyway). They will just be WoW style flightpaths to get to the other zones... Er, I mean planets. In the entire 15 pages of concept art on the site, only 1 picture has any ships in it at all, and thats the Sacking of Coruscant picture shown in the first post. A Star Wars MMO without player involved space battles... Now that's something even I am suprised about.

Some is (semi) decent, but for the most part, especially the aforementioned PC/console games, DLC is just stupid. The E:TW DLC really exemplifies this; in fact it pretty much takes my point and puts it on a pedestal for all to see. You see, I still can't finish a game. This is because it crashes to the desktop due to a bug whenever I click on certain fleets. When the game is unplayable, I would think they should at the very least make sure it is working before trying to milk more money out of

Hopefully 1.3 fixes the bug I have which makes clicking on certain fleets cause a crash to desktop... If not, I can't see myself playing it again until at least 1.4. Although by the looks of that list of bugfixes, I think mine may fall under one of the catagories. The campaign map is quite fun; at least it would be without the crash bug. I conquered pretty much the entire world as the Russians (easy settings for my first game) and found everything except the loadscreens, crashes,

Probably because there is pretty much NEVER an episode in star trek/stargate/anything in which they break. The speed at which even large, "slow" sh

Just send in the SG-1 team. They have blown up more ships single handedly than probably all of the UNSC fleet combined. And if one of them dies? Well, just bring them back via one of many numerous methods!

First off, I haven't played Civ 4: Col, but according to PC Gamer reviews, it is more or less an updated graphics version of the original. I have played freecol (free version of original) and can say it is quite fun to play. However, IMO it is a bit narrow for my tastes, especially with the way victory conditions are set up. I would buy it if there was quite a bit of new features from the free original, since it really is a pretty good gameplay concept. But it appeared to be pretty much

That is of course assuming multiplayer will be compatible between the two, which may or (likely) may not be the case. From the Devs: So how can other people play the maps you create? Don't worry, we are updating matchmaking to fully support the new maps. Source: <a
