This improved AI and made for very fun SP games. (I also modded the game wiht units and such that made SP maps very hard. I understand that the LARGE majority of 4x games enthusiasts is mainly (or only) interested in singleplayer. And you are quite correct. As you can see the MP "I'm better than anyone" crowd is trying to movein on this game. Dow

I don't believe that the campaign was meant to be a tutorial. Also Brad did say that the campaign would not have the Tech portion of the game in it.

I'm sure it will happen. I'm going to try to make my AOW:SM mod with over 100 units I made for AOW:SM over the years.

[quote who="gamecat_uk" reply="36" id="2717109"] Quoting psychoravin, reply 28 Well I don't judge the game by the ai competency alone I also take into account the difficulties and how hard it is to beat and how fast. MOM was just better overall in every respect vs AOW. I add how the ai plays plus the difficulty and how hard it is to beat the GAME not just the ai. MOM once again was just better overall in every respect vs AOW. The only thing really AOW has over MOM
[quote who="shadowtongue" reply="20" id="2715842"]AoW:SM may have been a nice MP game, but it's SP play was just terrible. Boring, not difficult, repetitive... The AI was just completely unable to provide any kind of a challenge once the player got past the initial learning curve (which wasn't that steep in the first place). Dom3 is by far a superior game, though again, MP only if you want a challenge.<br /

For people who didn't play much of AOW: Shadow Magic (Not Just AOW, there is a big difference) I just wanted to correct a few assumptions. 1. Killing the wizard did not end the game. It stopped you using the wizard for a period of time before he/she re-spawned. Without the availability of global spells this could be a real pain but would not end the game. [quote who="rossanderson48" reply="3" id="2715541"]I can certainly answer your title question: AOW:Shadow Magic Killer? By a long shot since this game will have an AI and lots of difficulty levels. Even MOM is an AOW:SM killer in that regards. I don't know what that crap was they called an ai that they put into AOW:SM but I could beat several ai opponents on their highest difficulties. Mainly due to that silly feature of kill the wizard lose the whole game. Sadly Elemental has that

I remember the same multiplayer pains from Galactic Civilization
OK guys at launch the game cannot be played using Total Internet Free LAN. But sometime after ther release they will release custom servers that we will be able to use for LAN parties without internet. At least that is how I read Frogboy's announcment. Personally I have no problem with this as long as custome servers are going to be in the game sometime down the road. Personally I'm more concerned with getting Hotseat so I can play several empires at once in SP.

[quote who="goodgimp" reply="129" id="2712315"] Quoting andrewlt, reply 114 I wouldn't classify a lack of LAN option as "DRM". When I think DRM, I think of some crap like SECUROM. Then again, I believe that was Civ 4, not Civ 5. Steam isn't exactly a rootkit, virus-like DRM like SECUROM. But DRM was the specific reason for removing LAN functionality. They don't want LAN play, or things like Hamachi, because they want all MP to be
