Wow! Those are amazing! Yeah, I'd prefer something like that. I was going for an "executive" look... black marble, gold, hardwood, etc. I don't think it came off that well. The top one is a little to "alien" for me, but the bottom one is good. I really have three different artstyles for the UI I'm debating between: 1) Classic scifi; with clear plastic and numbers running down the screen and targeting reticules and that sort of thing. Info would display as computer prom

[GRAPHICS] Started experimenting with modifying the medallion frames. This is what I came up with: Nice simple "black marble on gold" piece... reminds me of some sort of civic duty I'm supposed to do. I've just noticed a tiny little speck at the bottom. Could be that I flubbed up a little. Feel free to use it in your own projects. Another thing I wa
Hmmm. Maybe you could change the model, and put physical holes in it instead of textured holes, or make the polygons on the model invisible. The possible problems with that is that Elemental might work similar to Sins of a Solar Empire. In Sins, if you made parts of the model itself "clear" those parts would just appear black in game. If niether of those work, I think it would still be doable, but much harder. If you are really, really good at texturing, I bet you could make
After reading some of the posts here, it seems to me restricting equipment to veteran and elite status troops is untenable. But, I'm trying to imagine a green peasant with heavy gothic plate and a greatsword, and it is just not working in my head. More sophisticated weapons should incur... I dunno... a penalty. Although to be fair I think the green peasant wouldn't be good with a shield and spear, either. Other than that, I don't see why armies shouldn't equip fresh troops with viciou
The developers have cited Fall from Heaven 2, I think. Considering that all of these features more or less were also in Gal Civ 2, I think you can expect a great deal of these making it.
One of the things that I would like to do is change the format of the cloth map. Alter the pewter pieces to make them look like holographic projections or something, and the cloth map into some sort of command matrix which better fits a more sci-fi look.

I've never actually seen a game get it "right" with technology. It's less to do with researchers in labs inventing Lasers I and more like the migration and integration of technology from one culture to another. After all, when someone discovers Railways, it's not really that other nations just don't know how to build a locomotive, it is that there's cultural resistance to the idea and it costs money and requires entrepreneurs. If you want to make things harder for large empires, then
I definitely am a fan of the idea of monarchs giving out quests. Being the quest-giver seems sort of awesome, actually. I don't really know why I'm such a fan of this.

I'm just hoping for interesting and varied terrain. A hut here, a copse of trees there, maybe a small little hill. I've been wondering how urban combat will work... hmm... I've always found urban combat to be interesting and I hope they implement something interesting.
So if we, the forum denizens, are the heroes for the Kingdom of Impulse, who are going to be the heroes for Steam and Gamers Gate? BTW, if you need to have 20+ Karma to even be a minor hero, somebody oughta start giving me karma. [e digicons]:erk:[/e]
To be honest this seems to be pushing quests a bit too high up in importance for my comfort. This is fundamentally an empire building game with questing elements as one method to help build your empire. It should be entirely possible to completely ignore them if I want to. On the other hand, if I've invested heavily in Adventure techs I think I'd feel a bit cheated by a free-for-all quest that anyone can do. <br /
Here, you can see my town (lower) being listed as a Kraxian town when my border and theirs collided. This might be because of how that particular border joined or something. In any case, I don't know how to replicate it, and this screenshot wasn't taken at the time of the sneaky switch. I was playing Parriden.

Athkatla from Baldur's Gate 2 was absolutely replete with little nooks and crannies begging to be explored. I doubt you could ever really find everything there was to find in Athkatla. I loved that city, I wished that component of the game would go on forever.
but you can bet some executive blamed the 'weak' PC market for the low sales, and not the poor timing.
Never underestimate a buisnessman's lack of understanding of how the market works.
It seems natural that this would happen. After all, flails are originally farm implements rather than weapons of war. When it comes to balance and gameplay, it would get a little more dicey. But, I'm not against it. It would make sure that civilization-focused empires wouldn't be defenseless. I dunno. It'll be interesting to see.
I heard you saying sometime that adventurers would go around on their own initiative and look for stuff to do. I don't know if I was just completely imagining that, but something like that would be interesting. A bunch of adventurers just poking around in ruins and such for their own amusement would be awesome. I also think it'd be interesting to give out the quests yourself... like you could put a bounty on a monster and they'd go attack it, or if some dungeon was causing you problem
The terrain deformation is a very exciting aspect of Elemental and I'm hoping that we'll be able to make interesting things happen with it. I personally hope to have sprawling cities as terrain.
It's sort of so out there, I couldn't imagine things getting too out of hand. ...Uh, nm, it's it the internet. But still, it's rediculous enough to be sort of in the realm of fantasy rather than some kind of political statement. There's just no concievable scenario where the Commonwealth and the USA would be at war. I'm saying this as a New Zealander and an American, mind you.
This is fantastic good news. It'd have been extremely difficult to model exotic units otherwise in mods. Thanks!
That is the most hilarious ad about evil soap suds I've ever seen.
