While I'm not happy with the idea of a mini-game which influences research and such, I'm actually kind of fond of the idea of a "gambling" mini-game with gold in the pot. As long as the pot is relatively small, I don't think there's much harm in that. Otherwise I'd be happy with a small Tetris or Bejeweled game to pass the time.

At this point, I barely am able to cast a spell before I murder everyone else's sovereign. Or I get murdered. I wish they toned down AI aggressiveness a tad so I can make it to mid game.

(My art skills are the suxors right now. I'll have to make something later) [GAMEPLAY] Planets and Gameplay It's been a while since I posted, and I wanted to show you guys what I'm looking at right now. Today I started playing around with Python. It's an extremely easy language. So easy I sort of did a "proof of concept" planet generator. You type in the inputs and it tells you the coloni

I've never been a fan of westerns, but I could definitely see this as being fun.
Give everyone magical powrs
I'm pretty sure Orson Scott Card wrote a book with exactly this premise. I could be wrong.
In response to this, I actually captured a Elemental AAR... unfortunately, I can't figure out how to convert the files and such.
I tend to think a lot of anime has very similar visual cues. It's not so much that Gene Simmon's son plagiarized. It's that he's not good.
I don't mind humor. Even the darkest settings should have a little humor, because that's something that's pervasive in human nature. Pop culture references, however, do break immersion.

Though I think this idea is generally good, it does give particular advantage to people who happen to spawn nearby several food sources. In order for this to work, you have to make it prohibitively expensive to have more than, say 3 towns with considerably less benefit. Beyond a certain point the production of the town should become so expensive per-unit that the town has to get scrapped.
Hmm... that reminds me. I wanted to do an AAR on dom 3. Maybe I should work on that.
Everything looks great. Little disappointed by the lack of hemmorraging from the ears, though.

The closest distance between two points should be a straight line. With Hexes, that's not necessarily the case. I know squares have their own issues too but that particular issue with hexes always drives me crazy. There are certainly some tactical benefits to hex
I don't like this idea. While I do like the idea of governors, all I can really see coming out of this is players spamming heroes to make their governors. I'd rather just make cities past a certain point an economic liability. I'm a big believer in the bell curve
Wow, just wow. I cannot wait to start playing around with this stuff!

I remember reading all those Fighting Fantasy adventure books. Those were a hell of a lot of fun. I'm not sure how much we need them in Elemental... I think we can do better. We already have a robust adventure system in the works and we should take advantage of it. Also, if people wanted to play a text adventure, they'd... well, play a text adventure!

Hexes are nice, but the inability to form right angles is sort of angering. It's a major strategic weakness when every other unit in a square or line formation is exposed to x3 the contact area of a neighbouring unit. This is mostly why I prefer squares. A few table top games allow units to occupy half-hexes but I've never seen this in a computer game. EDIT: That's a pretty looking game... what game is that?
