Almost... so close... I like a whole bunch of the changes with 1Z. In particularly city building was much more interesting, with the introduction of pioneers and mini-buildings like gardens and such that I think will diversify cities a lot more. The different skin textures were also a welcome change. Many of the new traits are interesting, in particular those that provide unique weapons (although there needs to be a heck of a lot more negative ones). In my opinion, th

The question that the developers have posed to us is whether Elemental Beta 1Z is ready for Beta 2 or not, whether the game was playable and/or stable enough. This thread is where people can post their opinion on the subject. My own evaluation will be posted shortly.
[quote who="Soulfire777" reply="41" id="2587870"] Well forts take time to build, and you need a way to protect your workers while they build it. In real life this also includes resources and logistics that need to be extended and protected to build fortifications. Many/most games don't allow you to build fortresses in enemy territory as a simple way to abstract these problems. However that being said, anybody who lets the enemy build a fortress behind their battle
I only hope that, if there are to be multiple races/cultures, cities need not be monolithic. Capturing an Urxen city and earning their loyalty should allow you to build Urxen troops, even if in limited qualities or with poor morale. I think a lot of people would like to have more pluralistic societies rather than merely slaughtering prior inhabitants or having them magically turn into the race of conqueror. On the other hand, don't make it into HOMMV, where you just as easily recruit

Does this mean that there will be independents? Awesome.

Point is, what you've got here are not 4 stats but 3... Damage Type, Range Value, and Damage Per Second.

Any reasonably decent UI can calculate and display the DPS rate for you (or more likely damage per turn in this case). Combat speed is a nice stat because it can simulate things that just straight attack/defense don't cover, like a cannon. Cannonfire does HUGE damage to whatever

Not fond of "combat speed modifier" if that means we'll have to calculate DPS rates (correct me if I misunderstand). I'd much rather have the flexibility of a weapons be simulated through abilities. Otherwise we'll have daggermen doing more damage than sledgehammermen on the basis that daggermen stab faster, which might be true against a dummy but I don't think is realistic in an actual fight. Here are some other ideas to replace Combat Speed Modifier: "First Strike" ability:
I currently can't play dwarf fortress because of how I anticipate how awesome the version after it will be.
I'm very curious to what "major gameplay update" means. More radical than any other beta? Well... the release of a new major gameplay feature is always radical. And every prior beta release has given us new gameplay features. So what can possibly be more radical than a new gameplay feature? Unless by "radical gamplay update" they mean an entirely new game... OMG! Stardock is going to give us all Starcraft 2 beta keys!! I called it. [e digicons]:')[/e]
Yes. Have automated naming say something about the regiment. I would also check for certain combinations, such as: Wilderness skills + primarily ranged = "Rangers" Wilderness skills + primarily melee = "Barbarians" Stealth skills = "Rogues" That way you don't get tongue twisters like Wilderness Leather-Clad Bowmen
Rigma is an ugly name. Choose some a: more dignified, such as florins or gilder. or b: more badass, like Skaels which someone recommended, or drachma, or something else.
Joam is an deceptive rogue priest who left the church to go strike out against evil... his way. He wields dual swords, a trimmed beard, a little magic, and a silver tongue. John is a leprous axe-murderer wrapped in rags who is only as subtle as his weapon. He only talks to say something obscene if that kind, but for whatever reason cannot ever tell a lie. His origins are unknown but he is famous for his fearsome appearance and his bloodlust to fight e

Soren Johnson, at Firaxis at the time, is in the GalCiv II credits. He's not there but it gives you an idea of how close knit our group is. That's why it always pains us to see people taking sides. We're all on the same side. I realize people who aren't in the ind
What gave me a whole lot of hope and excitement for Elemental recently was the growing amount of the individuation between soldiers. Not just in the face, but clothing and so forth. I'm really, really happy about this trend. I love individualisation, and I really hope they expand it to give soldiers other unique qualities. I'd really appreciate a roster showing names and kill-counts and so forth, I don't expect it but I hold hope. This really shows to me the effort that the developers

This sort of reminds me of traditional Samoan marriage custom. There, all young people are married to older folks. Young boys are married to older women. Younger girls are married to older men. Then, when the older mate dies, the widow(er) get the inheritance and it's their turn to marry someone young. I might be confusing Samoan culture with that of another pacific island, though.
One of the things I always wished for was long, drawn out urban battle occuring over the course of many turns. A "Stalingrad" if you will. I'm always a little disappointed when city battles merely occur over the course of single turn. This was especially apparent in Gal Civ II. Wars involving literally billions of troops on either side were decided in a week. Including this would add a lot. There would be tension as the fortunes of battle changed. It also allows for the possibility of
