I've noticed this issue, too. When I go to build a new town (I haven't noticed common factors, like number of towns built before, amount of food, or location, or anything) and start adding improvements, the screen will show available tiles surrounding the town. However, it will only let me place 4 structures. When demolished, it still shows all tiles available around the town, but I'll open the town display and it will state that only 4 tiles are available.

Bumping: this is still occurring. Could the black terrain, at least, be related to lighting problem affecting offhand items? It's only on mountains and hills.

I just started my first game on R, and no Janusk for me either.
During the Beta, you have to be online to play. Once the stable 1.1 is released, they're getting rid of that requirement. It's so they can fix some things on their end without requiring a patch.
We're trying to track down the crash on end turn and the saving crash.
I've mentioned in another couple posts that I think they may be related. When I was getting end-of-turn crashes, I manually saved more often so I wouldn't have to replay so many turns. When I started saving every turn, I never got another end-of-turn crash until I stopped saving as often.
It was Magnar that did it when it happened to me, too--a city guard.
I'm particularly pleased with how stable this version of the game is
Same. I'm not experiencing much in the way of crashes at all.
I mentioned in a few other posts (though no one's acknowledged it...) that a few techs aren't working right in a similar way. For example, you can build Inns and Markets at the start, but they're supposed to be tied to techs, too.
Simply hitting "End Turn" essentially caused a crash. * I can't recreate it, the autosave does not reproduce this crash.
I mentioned in another post that I stumbled on a workaround. When end-of-turn crashes were happening to me, I started saving more often so I wouldn't lose as much progress. I've found that when I manually save (not autosave) every turn, I never get an end of turn crash. My guess is it's related to the autosaves.
That happened to me too--are you using a custom sovereign and faction? I read elsewhere on the board that the custom sovereigns and factions created under the previous versions of the game don't play nice with 1.09p. I deleted my sovereign and faction, made new ones, and it worked right again.
I don't know if it's the same end-of-turn crash that I noticed in 1.09n, but if it is, I wonder if it's related to the auto-save feature? As I got those crashes, I started manually saving more frequently, so I wouldn't lose progress after a crash. ...oddly, I found that if I manually saved every turn, I never got an end-of-turn crash. At all. It would only happen when I got less faithful to saving and would neglect a manual save for a bunch of turns.
You're welcome. Signing in that way is signing back into Impulse. The only consistent pattern I've noticed to it is that it happens to me after a slew of crashes. I figured out what was going on after reading a few posts about people changing account names and running into the issue.
Being able to tab through ALL of your units (whether they have moved or not, including the ones in cities) would also be nice (perhaps Alt-TAB?) I've seen some aberrant behavior with the mouse clicking as well on occasion. Sometimes, I'll click a destination for a unit and it moves to a square that is offset from my mouse a square or two, even though the terrain is flat.
Alt+tab is already claimed by Windows... That issue has happened to
4) Those damned idle popups! It's just not an elegant way to handle what it's trying to do. If the notifications on the right hand side aren't enough, then maybe overlay something on the city itself on the map or find another place to indicate it. But please get rid of the popup messages!
I was annoyed by how they interrupt one another when I'm trying to do something...BUT...after playing for a while I did notice another indication of units and towns without orders: the
Very. It wasn't just the main screen, either--same issue was apparent while trying to load a map, during game saving, and even the notification of learning new spells.
I got it a few times, after excessive crashing. Hold shift+tab, log in again, then try again.
A lot of text in the game is pushing itself to the top layer since I updated: Edit: Before playing I decided to delete my screens folder and let the game recreate them to see if it would fix the black terrain issue. Each time it recreated the folder, it did this. I restored the original and it displays correctly. I let it create the folder again, and the same layering problem occurred.
Were the prereqs changed/removed for inns and markets? I noticed I was able to build them at a point where the only civics research I had was harvesting. Are they now tied to trade?
So far it appears to be fixed. I tried to post a dump file last night...three hours of trying, and no-go. I kept coming back to it when I saw others successfully post. O_o
I tried for about 3 hours to post my dump last night/this morning. Bleh. Anyway, here's my dump as well: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16152828/Elemental1_09o-2010-12-03T00-41-07-265.zip Also, after I checked my game, I noticed that my capital was also level 3.
I was just about to post this problem as well, after trying to narrow it down further. Specifically, it's crashing when I try to train units in my capital...the second outpost allows it just fine.Being unable to train units is definitely game-breaking... Here's my debug.err: http://pastebin.ca/2009263
