Congratulations, Guys! You deserved it, for sure. [e digicons][/e] And it's pretty cool from the devs too. [e digicons]B)[/e]
I still don't understand the devs irrationnal dislike for a good old-fashioned tutorial scenario with pop-ups explaining the basic mechanisms: "left-click on this!", "If x number is in red, that means you need more materials to build" and so on... [e digicons]:|[/e] Sometimes, the old and tried methods are the best ones.
I really don't think that's a problem - if you're sending poorly equipped soldiers with 10 attack each against some godlike creature with 100 defense, sure you won't even scratch it 90% of the time, but isn't that the way it should be in such an extreme situation? Practically speaking, it's rare to get single units with 100 defense*, and it's much more common to get single units over 10 attack, so that's taking a rare and extreme case and complain
I really like it too. Played it for 2 hours, no crash, a few typos and glitches here and there but that's nothing. Diplomacy and tech trees options seem really deep! For the moment, it's only [e digicons][/e]
I don't worry [e digicons]B)[/e] It's just that I had to find an angle to put my foot in the door of this thread. What I find incredible is people giving reasons why aliens/UFOs can't be here (galaxies too far, no interest,...) and denying the facts (TONS of them) indicating that there IS something here. I made a little analogy that I like to say: It's like an Englishman looking through his window and seeing a tiger in his garden. What should he

Agreed with Onomastikon too. There's no problem with a game taking time to load if it's justified by a lot of content. (Of course it bugs Frogboy because he's the guy who bought an Ipad not to wait for his notebook to start [e digicons]}:)[/e] ) To play several hours of game, one can wait 1-2 minutes at start.
I like this new scheme personally. [e digicons]|-)[/e]
The campaign mode will contain several tutorial elements. “[But] in terms of an interactive tutorial where it’s like, ‘Now click on this,’ we’re staying away from that. I know some people like it. But it really drives me nuts. In my experience, I really just need someone to say, ‘This is how you play the game,’ so I’m not lost, and that’s what we’re looking to do.”
Oh noooooooo! [e digicons

It's just über-geeking pushed too far. I couldn't even guess what means "anti-aliasing" if my life was at stake with it. So don't
I have problems downloading this Beta. First attempt it stopped at 100.0% (112.25MB/112.30MB) with the little circle going eternally in circles. I closed Impulse and re-opened it. Second attempt it is now stopped at Verifying (more than 10min now) with the little circle going eternally in circles. I'm going to bed. Shall try again tomorrow.
Diplomacy as a tool for losers is not what diplomacy should be. I agree that diplomacy is "soft" and subtle, I disagree that this means it doesn't work against, or achieve as much as, hard power. I'm a diplomatic player, I'm sure as anything not weak. I'm strong. My information network means I know everything everyone else is doing. My spies are subtly slowing down everything everyone else does. My allies are pathetically grateful to me
Hey, guys, where are you taking those quotes from? Because all I can see in the opening post is:
You have entered the best part of the beta process.
[e digicons]8C[/e]

A lot of potential in the diplomacy domain and lots of good ideas here. I’ll make some comments/suggestions/old games analogies, hoping it can be useful to someone though not very coherent. (Thanks to people for their quotes!). Sorry if it’s very long but as a non-native English writer I like to illustrate my text with quotes to relate with what others think. But first a general comment:
why
Fantastic news! [e digicons][/e] That means I must speed to give my suggestions on diplomacy now that the team focuses on big gameplay issues. I have 2 questions about things I didn't follow: - will there be dungeons in version 1.0 or have they been postponed to February? - has it be already decided what happens when a city is captured? (more specifically when you capture another race's city) Revolt risk, assimilation, deportation...</p

After forcing us to play on the cloth map and repeating that the Beta was not fun, here is the result: it was so fun that we don't want to leave the cloth map! [e digicons][/e] I like the 3D map. I just use the cloth one to find goodies, quest objectives or my far away units. If these would be better signalized, it would be perfect. And to whom belongs a unit should be more obvious too.
Disclaimer: bitterness inside. (not meant to be rude especially as we don't really know how it is)
I would also rather see a roll per each unit in the party. However, I suspect they do it the simpler way and just combine the stats and treat it as a single unit in terms of rolls. I really hope not.
In the combat thread we have discussed this quite extensively and completely agree that one stat for movement / number of attacks causes a lot of problems. Specifically we've been calling it the "Sauron / Super-Calvary" problem where people who move far on a battlefield (calvary) suddenly get a ton of attacks, and people who are supposed to have a ton of attacks (Sauron) can suddenly teleport across the battlefield. It's obnoxious.
Th
