But we have to note a few things. 1 We can't change people, the market is there and there is no use in getting bitter. 2. Originality can sell loads and loads. We mustn't forget that LOTR was original when it came out. People do like quaility (not all of them but ...), but it's extremely difficult to come up with something which is both original and brilliant. Leading to 3. We have quit
In fact, I think today’s problem and complexity rather comes from the E lore itself. The divisions within the current lore (Empires and Kingdoms, special definition of what race mean, who can be good and evil, life magic and death magic, all mixed up with different factions …) are not easy to understand. I must admit that even after years on the forum I still must make an effort to really “grasp” this complex structure.
Wintersong: Long post! So you want a furryscape mod basically?
I would be just happy with Stardock releasing Elemental with only humans (as long as they are culturally, and somehow physically, different). I don't need Fallen, Risen, elves, proto-elves, dwarves with fake scottish accent... No matter if they are given by Stardock or modders. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't like to sometimes throw some "alien" into the game. Flying

For the TL;DR people, this post is not for you. Move along.
Don't simplify just to satisfy part of the playerbase.
Exactly. Don't dumb down modding for some people not interested in its possibilities. (What? If you use a double edged sword...) :P
I think you are overestimating Players are willing to go through the trouble of modding, especially immeadiately once the game is released. The galciv 2 mod community wasn't very vibrant and seemed t

But it's true that right now are more Gal Civ based than anything else. Considering how betas go, I don't know when to expect some serious talents going on and how they will actually be. I'd vote for Stardock already considering talents like in MoM (aside from some % ones?) but at this point I'm quite ti

It's unthinkable to me that Elemental won't be a success. Not that it could not happen but it would be like a cataclysm and by truly exceptional circumstances. You are right that the best moment to develop the canon factions is the base game. And any resource used to them are resources that can be used by modders. And if expansion packs with more eye candy are sold... well, you have my money right now. And you also know that many people, no matter how much they like the canon

Silly Gog wouldn't accept my trusty MasterCard! [e digicons]8O[/e] Visa Spell solved the situation though.[e digicons]\o/[/e] It works like a charm in Windows 7 (32 bit). At least what I have been able to play. Music and all without any tweak. The OST, being in mp3, doesn't play in my Windows Media though.[e digicons]:\[/e] And a unit of random raiders defeated me in the first game. Shame on me![e digicons][/e]

I don't understand it. The fact that people prefers custom factions should had been an obvious, just like people prefering custom Sovereigns (especially right now that many talents/weaknesses do nothing). In Gal Civ 2 and Dark Avatar I liked Terrans and Altarians but barely touched Altarians. In any case, I played mostly custom because that allowed me to pick the traits that suited me best (plus custom avatar and silly names optional). With Twilight (of the Arnor, mind you) I started

Plato was doing religion then? Religions are control forms based on a supreme authority/entity/power, priests being the arbiters between the divine and the mundane which obviously grants them lots of power in societies where other kind of social structures hasn't been developed yet (except those ones who expand in all the areas of a society so they can have total control of it and perpetuate themselves ad astra). I'll concede to the second definition but not to the Wikipedia one.
That never seemed to have been an issue in say Civilization where you can only build 1 of a given thing in a city.
Although I'd consider that "/discussion" enough, I must say that I like the other arguments used. If this game couldn't be modded, Stardock would be under siege right now. XD

I'd expect Taoism inspiring philosophies and not religions. Being a way of life. Hoping for some kind of animism too.
