My opinions on Life magic is that it's one of the strongest of the bunch and that it has very few weak spells. These spells are good for any sovereign as they don't rely on spell mastery and have a range of strong effects. Tier 1: At tier 1 you get regeneration which is an absolute all star, especially with some life shards - if you stick this on a tank sov they can rapidly become untouchable by basic units. Its one of the most powerful spells in t

I was thinking with beta 5 looming now would be a good time to have a closer look at each of the 6 shards to get an idea on what we think as a community about the spells in each set with an aim to assisting the developers with balancing them out prior to release. I think it would be good to get 6 threads going (1 for each shard) so then that helps to keep discussion focused. So to get the ball rolling I thought I'd start us off with a summary of Life magic. <span style="text-
I propose they make the Oracle a level 5 conclave upgrade and they move scrying pools halfway down the magic tree. That would make the exponential multipliers late game where they belong
@ Kongdej I'm chilled, but I think it would be better to train the AI to use the present system, plus make it really hard to get multipliers beyond 3. Also maybe some tweaking needs to be done to the random start generator.
1) How often do you see a 3 essence build site? - I've only seen these tiles when they are reclaimed from wildlands - i.e. late game. 2) To get an oracle (which provides 1 essence) you need to get a conclave to level 3 - i.e. mid game 3) Scrying pools - OK these might be a little too easy to get at the moment - maybe they need to be pushed a little further along the tech tree The multiplier effect is actually kind of fun - all they need to do is
The random start generator seems a bit buggy at times - one game it started me in a desert with no tiles to settle at all. On other occasions I'll get just 2 or 3 tiles to settle on. This is not a failing of essence it is the map generator not balancing player starts well. But normally if I don't get essence I'll get something else to compensate. I find for every 5 or 6 city sites 1 will have two essence, which is fine as that becomes my conclave/fortress. Essence is suppo
You can still win without essence in your starting city although it's always nice to have
Cheers Sean, this will help anyone else who wants to put the sov and faction back in too. I tried to make him as close to what I remember so I selected the following: Warlord armed with hammer spellbooks: Death 1, Water 1, Earth 1 Traits: Cruel, might He was kind of a jack of all trades really
Guys can you please stop calling for spells to be nerfed - I personally think most the city enchants are fine although maybe inspiration should be unlocked in an early magic tech so it doesnt come into play right from turn one - thats the only nerf I would suggest. Essence is pretty uncommon in my games and 2 essence sites tend to be hard to find so they're pretty special when I do find one. I currently think essence and city enchants are well balanced at the moment.
Ah never mind, I've found the blurb now
oops sorry double post
Hi guys I'm making custom sovereigns for General Carrodus and Kul-al-Kulan so I can stick Urxen and Capitar back in there but I can't remember their backstories - I did some digging and found the backstory for Carrodus but can't find anything for Kulan. Can anyone remember it?

I made a similar request several months back but no luck - I guess this is going to be one for the mods
I'm very excited about this, I'm going to pre-order it for sure
I've only used Relias a couple of times and I agree with you Madcatter, it is very easy to really milk those quest maps and level up Relias like crazy. I don't even think he needs the henchmen really. Buying up all the champs for free is very useful too but the big thing is the quest maps
Do all the sovs make full use of their skill points now? How about the races, do they use all their points? I hope Derek and Brad balance all these before release too but I'm not sure they'll have enough time now - it's only a matter of weeks before release to fix bugs, polish and balance. Currently I'm just using the lore sovs precisely because I feel a custom one would be too OP - I guess I could up my difficulty setting to compensate
Bug 1: Eyes of the eagle doesnt work as stated - it doesnt increase vision by 6 and appears to do nothing Bug 2: If two armies attack a city in the same turn, the 2nd attack doesnt resolve and you can't end the following turn - saving and reloading appears to resolve the issue Bug 3: Combat music seems to continue after a battle and plays on in the strategic map Bug 4: Sound FX in tactical
OK Sean I'll do that
This bug seems to be around still - if 2 enemy armies attack the same city in one turn, the second attack doesnt happen and you can't end the turn in your following turn. Kind of breaks the game when it happens
Just a quick one; sometimes the music remains in tactical battle mode even after the battle has finished and it's back on the strategic map. This also happens if you click on the city view (it sticks in city view music mode). Another one is sometimes the SFX don't play in a tactical battle, although the music is playing.
Yep, looks like you're having the same issues that I was having and they started around the same time too - I suggest you manually check which graphics card the game is using, I'd still be having the same issue now if I hadnt stumbled upon a solution
This bug seems to still be around - if you use a spell like pillar of fire on units in the strategic map and they drop to zero health, they'll stick around. I was unable to attack stacks that had been damaged in this way and I wasnt able to end the turn either. I was able to save and reload, which fixed the issue - so far I've ran into this twice with Magnar I'll see if I can do a before and after save if it happens again as it's fairly predictable when it happens
@ sentinemodo I had this problem - black empty portraits instead of unit displays and black backgrounds and foregrounds in the soc selection screen -I found out this was down to my laptop assigning the basic graphics card to work with elemental as opposed to the gaming graphics card - when I entered the card menu and manually assigned it to run with elemental, the game displays were fine - I don't know if you've tried that already but it might be worth a s
When I play Resoln, all I need is Ceresa and the death demons, they steamroll through everything. That said, I would like some love given to the other shard demons - part of the reason they are weak is symptomatic of the hp leveling system - if they fixed this and gave the other shard demons more base hps too then I might have a reason not to corrupt every shard I find.
