You know they've got the minds of programmers and not gamers when patch after patch all we see are number changes and AI tweaks. The AI tweaks and rebalancing is nice and all, but the factions are basically two flavors of boring, there's not much in the way of diplomacy, road building and trade are very poorly done, and why is it that we can't have an arctic empire or a desert kingdom without being punished for using the wrong terrain and relying on mods?

It's always funny when people lament lamentation.
What's frustrating about this game is that it's a massive heap of wasted potential, so much could be done, and a lot of it rather easily (as some modders have shown) but just isn't being done, so what we have is a shell of the game that should have been, with two bland factions having zero depth, bad diplomacy, cumbersome trade, and far too limited options in modifying the aesthetics of our kingdoms. Modders have gone to great lengths to diversify the factions and the result is th
Nothing to do with this thread. Don't be a troll.
No, it has to do with the state of the game, and Stardock's attitude towards it. It's like they all only have the minds of programmers and not gamers.
Second: Follow them more closely. I don't even follow this game and it's pretty obvious they're putting a ton of thought and work into it.
That

At present the game is boring the factions are cookie cutter and the diplomacy is lacking, there isn't enough to do and there are still bugs that need addressing, and modders seem to take improving the game far more seriously than Stardock does. I'm deeply disappointed with Stardock's sloppiness and lack of imagination with this title, this game has incredible potential and I feel that it's being completely wasted. I'll check the game out in a year or two when hopefully th
While I hate to interject on the todish love fest I'd like to interject to ask if there was ever any discussion among the developers of diversifying the factions a bit, changing up the aesthetics from this two sizes fits all thing.
Hi Frogboy, The list is looking good. Have you given any thought to making the factions more different?
Apparently we're the only ones who thinks that's a good idea.
^ I seriously think that Stardock underestimates the impact of adding a little personality like that can have, I know it's mostly cosmetic but it can add a distinct flavor to your kingdom and make borders more recognizable. It's not all ones and zeros guys. Why not just let us cast spells that influence whether our kingdom domain transforms the land to ice, desert, deathlands, or grasslands, you know kind of like in Age of Wonders 2?
I haven't been following the game for awhile and probably plan to give them some time to work on it before I play again, but can anyone tell me if they've mixed up the faction terrain any from that boring flavorless black and white style "Good guys grasslands, bad guys death lands" BS? I know you can manually customize the terrain your faction uses but they seemed to be railroading us into using those dull devoid of personality one size fits all terrains by adding bonuses and penaltie
Grass vs Wasteland is so boring... Can't we just put Kraxis in Desert instead? You know, without modding it?
I think the main reason people hate it is because it creates unrealistic borders and detracts from the immersion by detracting from the feeling of dealing with actual nations. I think there should be less reliance on map resources honestly, I mean they should still be there but they shouldn't be the only reason to build a city.
Ok I just saw someone else suggest pretty much the exact same thing. Stardock where are you? Do you guys read the Ideas board?
I suggested something very similar to this, it would be extremely welcome. Stardock please consider this suggestion.
This really is a great idea, and simple too.
Wait the old way sounds far more interesting and immersive, why the heck did they change it? Though I have to say if they insist on this Good vs Evil - Grassland Kingdoms vs Deathland Empires, it would kind of suck because it would be yet another thing trying to force us into using only one of two terrains. I hate that the Kingdoms and Empires are so bland and homogeneous, they should have more diverse domain terrain types at least that would add some flavor, I mean why doesn't Kraxis
I want to suggest a field troop limit based at 3 and increased by a value determined by the charisma of heroes in the party. Every 3 points of Charisma could equal one point of leadership for the Hero with the highest charisma in the group, with half the effect for any accompanying heroes. For example a sovereign with 10 Charisma would have a leadership of 3, allowing the sovereign to lead 6 troops into battle (sovereign +5 additional units), if accompanied by a hero with 10 charisma, the sov
Quoting Lantros, reply 206 I allways took Organized and Adventurer. And exactly that was the problem. Everybody did this because anything else was like creating a sov. with a penalty. Why? Selecting these traits means you are using your Sov as a unit, and putting it in danger. Pisses me off. Feels like Stardock is forgetting a game is supposed to be FUN, and not a job to play
By the way the custom buildings are really impressive.
You did a really good job on this, bravo and [e digicons]k1[/e] I only wish the dev team would create some unique factions, because all empire are basically different flavors of the same bland bad guys and all kingdoms are basically more than less the same flavor of the same bland good guys.
My biggest gripe so far has been the lack of documentation, whether in-game, online, or paper. I would prefer that over a complete tutorial any day. However, after seeing the huge number of changes being made in the specific values of all sorts of things throughout the game, I understand that extensive documentation would end up being inaccurate in lots of spots unless written after most, if not all, of these alterations occurred. &
Ok well the Default TerrainType for Empire and Kingdom Territories is EXTREMELY BLAND AND BORING BECAUSE IT'S ALL EXACTLY THE SAME GRASS TERRAIN FOR KINGDOMS AND EXACTLY THE SAME FALLEN TERRAIN FOR EMPIRES EVEN THOUGH THIS MAKES NO SENSE GIVEN THEIR LOCATIONS AND EVEN CONTRADICTS ONE OF THE EMPIRE DESCRIPTIONS, WHICH CLEARLY SAYS TROGGS LIVE IN A LAND OF GRASSLANDS, FORESTS, AND SWAMPS, NOT DRY DEATH LANDS. I hope that clarified what I meant by The Default Terrains Suck
