Play a sim. Seriously, you just described a society simulation game. There are plenty out there that you might enjoy.

You mean that Mac's don't have an auto update or a prolific place to go to get great tech support? LOL. I just did a Google search and investigated this. Nothing like adding a lot of garbled confusion with an O/S named Leopard and then offering the next generation and naming it Snow Leopard. But, long story short, to get to 10.6.2, you need to be on Snow Leopard. ALL 10.5 is Leopard. ALL 10.6 is Snow Leopard. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.or

Empires/nations are sprawling landscapes within borders. While outposts are an excellent option, it would be nice for them to remain as such: an option. Within these borders, you can find all sorts of interesting places that provide services to the nation and its cities within. I.e. a large remote farm built in the shadows of a mountain range. These were commonplace, as they offered protection simply because of their remote and protected location while still contributing to

My space bar is going to be worn out from all of the epic TBS. Hex or square... I don't care what shape my plate is, as long as the food is TASTY!

No idea who started it but its refering to shooting things (guns, phasers or lighting bolt in WoW) by the sound.
Pretty sure that originated from the "More pew pew, less QQ." I.e. More fighting, less crying.
If you don't see any of the game mechanics that Cryptic took from ME1 and tried to replicate them in STO, then I apologize for your short-sightedness. Right down to the number of team members you can bring on away missions... You're right, it doesn't resemble ME1

Worst case scenario is that it's all cyclical. Currently, RPG's seem to be king with the BioWare blockbusters ME and DA, and Fallout was a huge success. They have been for a few years now. Strategy games seem to be on the rise this year with Civ5, Elemental, Starcraft 2. FPS finished their cycle a couple of years ago with Crysis, CoD, etc. Things have been a bit stagnant lately, but they will turn around. Borderlands is awesome,

Pretty simple... when ME1 and ME2 give you a better "Star Trek feel" than the actual Star Trek franchise, then it's doomed. Cryptic really dropped the ball on this one. And Star Trek fans are not forgiving. This is going to get a lot uglier before it gets forgotten. Cryptic may not recover.

Some of you may or may not remember War of the Lance, a strategy game by SSI set in the Dragonlance universe. This was a spectacular little strategy game. In it, you had heroes, and you would send them off to quest. They would not be available to your armies while they were questing. A similar system would be fun, imho, where you can choose quests for them to go on, and they would depart and would not be available until they succeeded or failed. A nice

I prefer hexes myself. It adds an organic feeling to the map. If you were to remove the grid overlay from those screen shots, you would not be able to tell that it was a tileset. That being said, I am perfectly happy with Elemental being square tiles.

The solution to the keyboard issue, was to edit the dosbox config file in the windows environment to add autoexec lines with the backslash, so the game automatically loads when you load dosbox. Once your're in the game the lack of a backslash key hasn't been an issue. http://www.glen

More resources and more city building options are always a great thing. For me, it makes a more immersive game. Just provide the ability to auto-manage for those who don't like/prefer that sort of thing.

Dwarf Fortress has me hooked... but still wanting more. I am looking for a complex resource-gathering and management game featuring exploration (random world generator preferred). Obviously, combat is another worthwhile component to this equation. FYI, MoM and Civ IV rate amongst my favorite games of all time, just to give you a bit more of an idea of what I dig. Any suggestions to sate this hunger?? Thanks.

Channelling spells have been around for a time, and were actually in MoM in the form of spell upkeep (spells continued as long as you could maintain the upkeep or you shut it off). I would expect to see some form of this in Elemental, anyhow.

Ah, this is a great thread and so good to see that other people share a lot of fond memories of MoM. I'll be loading up DosBox tonight. Out of curiosity, did any of you ever use the user mod/hack that allowed you to play this game hot-seat multiplayer? We had a TON of epic games between myself and my roommate at the time.

Just for the fun of possibilities... Borderlands features an AI specifically built for the weapons alone. The in-game manufacturers have different "personalities" and random guns are assembled based upon those personalities. The result is a game which features millions upon millions of weapons that "make sense" to the game. Now, parallel that into city building. The races and leaders of the cities would be the personalities, and the city develops during the w

On a side note. Torchlight, while obviously a Diablo clone (even the music, ack!), is worth the $20, even if it is a mindless grind... It's entertaining if you are looking to not think for a couple hours or two.
