I would hope that if you ask your community for the best spells they think should be in the game, more than one might find their way in.
No kidding. It seems like a complete waste otherwise. Although someone could simply pack them all together as a mod.

It would be interesting to get some feedback from Brad and/or Derek as to a direction that they would like this discussion to go in. We've done a lot of speculating so far, and steering this into potential mechanics would be the next step, and fun in and of itself.

Now I have everything I want and more and I'm bored to death, restless and dissatisfied. I go out and buy things like games I'd like to play, and never end up playing them because when I go to pick them up I just look at them and think of how much of my time this game will be taking up and if it will actually make me happy, a
Did I say anything about the other being store bought? One setting is someone that had the components on hand for the task they were undertaking, the other is one where only the raw materials were on hand. One can be done in a reasonable amount of time, as the work involved in getting there was already done. One cannot. Yeah, that semanical justification clears it all up. Thanks. And "people being stupid" is a direct attack, and you can try to cover that up in semantics as well. Your intent was perfectly clear. Such as, I never said that you do not respect other people. I said that you " may not respesct other people." See, I can use semanics, too. But based upon your response, it was clear how you interpreted it. Funny how that it only applies&

Istari, my apologies if you are that offended if other people are being offended by inappropriate language or don't find it appropriate for these message boards. Maybe you should petition Stardock to remove the "Inappropriate Language" report post option, as I cannot for the life of me figure out why they would ever include it. You may not respect other people in real life, but there is a CoC to adhere to here. This is a public forum for a computer game, which also means that ther

Hmmmm. I'll try that. Too bad no one offered that suggestion over a month ago when I was looking for a solution at that time. Not very elegant though, and I am not sure that it doesn't actually remove it entirely, but it's worth a shot. There are other issues I encountered, but they're not worth going over now. Thanks.
LOL this great, I think Stardock should make characters/champions with this sort of personality trait. It would make for an interesting background story!
Which trait is that? The additional snide commentary after answering a question or the natural aggressive response of lashing back to a condescending response? Let's have a little perspective. No need to pile on. :)
As for this point, I actually disagree. The point of allowing for automation v. Manual control is not to confer an advantage to one side or another, but to increase the fun of the players who like one way or another.
Then why is there an advantage using manual over automated throughout? As a matter of fact, I can't think of many strategy games in general where the automated process is on par with the manual process, particularly when practiced and perfected.

I could not disagree more with your final assessment, Grump. Community contests spark and gauge interest in the game. They help development determine what the community (in this case, the modding part of the community) is interested in from the game's standpoint. They EXPAND on the game, not define it. It allows for more opportunities and reasons for the company to interact with the community. It allows everyone (both Stardock and the community) to see how othe
On the complex resource side, there have been some really interesting ideas, but almost all of them have the caveat that there would need to be some kind of automated system to appease the simple resource people. For anyone who has played a 4x game, it is obvious that the automated systems are always worse than manually setting things. This is not due to a deficiency of some programmer, but simply that the automated system does not know what the player is planning and simply makes choi
Iron -> Refined Iron -> Steel -> Sword Blade -> Sword Would this really add anything to overall fun of the game?
For those that enjoy this aspect of strategy games, yes. For those that do not, no. Also in this thread, options have been offered to appease both types of players. If you have the ability to please both, why wouldn't you? But I think your example is extreme. Unless of course, Iron, Refined Iron, Steel, and Swo

Just because they were trying to get the IP does not mean that the game was going to be the same. I am sorry if you misunderstood the initial discussions on the topic as being a verbatim translation of the game. It wasn't. They were discussions of concepts, mechanics, etc. that could be used, ported, translated, modified, scrapped, and/or improved upon. Those discussions did not mean Lizard Men = Reptilian Men, and down the line, piece by piece. And yes, MoM wa

This was originally build as the spiritual successor to MoM, and a game aiming to do that needs none of this stuff (but it does need an awful lot more spells and stronger combat mechanics).
