With Kael being hired at Stardock, was this post some kind of premonition?? :D I only said that I wanted the guide, not the whole damn guy. :P Congrats, Kael!
And don't forget a Fire Elemental should be.............wait for it........FIRE IMMUNITY. I just shook my head when I killed a Fire Elemental with fire attacks before I decided to stop playing Elemental until the 1.1 and went back to playing all the AOW's
Resistances, I can agree with. Immunity, I can not. A fireball is not simply fire. There is mass, force, impact, etc.
Don't know if this is the cause, but something to make note of... Windows Vista and Windows 7 have this odd habit of marking your external USB drives as read only. If that is the case, you need to take ownership. Open a command prompt window as administrator. In the command prompt type "diskpart" Type "list volume" this will list all the drives on your computer and give them all volume numbers. Next you want diskpart to set focus on
6. I would like to see numbers added to the scales in the builder's forge. These numbers should be modifiable. That way, we can fine-tune the placement of objects by editing the numbers. Right now, the scales are rather bumpy in design and that makes it hard to adjust them after they have been placed.
A way to group and ungroup objects would be a very nice addition as well.
You guys do realize that you're asking Stardock to make a guide that in the Civ V universe was created by a modder right? Is there a Firaxis guide?
I don't believe that I ever mentioned that we needed Stardock to write it. I simply stated that it's what we need. Unless, of course, you want to hire me since i live right off of Pontiac Trail and M-5. :) There are plenty of talented souls here who would
Yeah, writing docs for work-in-progress while API and data formats still change is mostly wasting your time and money. Besides, lack of scripting of any kind makes serious modding impossible anyway, and we have to wait till python api/C++ SDK anyway.
As opposed to all the time being wasted now on mods that can become obsolete for the same reasons? Oh, but this is the community's time, not the company's time, so that makes it
I completely agree. 75% of modding right now is trying to figure out how everything works and relates to each other. A document like that eliminates the guesswork and lets the community spend that wasted time in actual creativity and implementation. Never mind how absolutely frustrating it is muddling through the existing XML, especially when you do not know that what you are attempting can even be accomplished.
The title of the document is "ModdersGuide.PDF." I really can't offer much more detail than that.
This is sweet, and what we need for Elemental. http://kael.civfanatics.net/files/ModdersGuide.pdf
The latest MMO I was burnt by was STO
Man, I dodged that bullet by playing beta for 2 days and realizing that it absolutely sucked. They really dropped the ball on this one from the beginning, too. The preliminary concept of STO was that your character was a crew member of a starship, not a starship captain (which really trivializes starships). That preliminary concept was rife with potential. Imagine your "guild" or "clan" being an entire crew
Until the modding community gets everything that we need (Python, ability to disable default content, etc.), I am taking this all at a snail's pace. The last thing I want to do is to get completely invested in a project that will not come to fruition because of critical limitations. Hopefully, we start getting some signs that Stardock is just as committed to supporting us modders as well as Elemental itself.
I look forward to a quest utility, but the modding community is supposed to be getting a lot of things that it hasn't received yet, including examples of XML in action, "cool tools by the end of the week" (told to us about three weeks ago), content packs, amongst other crucial things. I am so very reluctant to dive headlong into a conversion/heavy mod project (even though I have initiated one) without knowing for certain that there is a commitment to support the modding community. I h
i swore I wouldn't be following the dev journals... but am apparently a liar. Really like the look of the new ui. Good job!
Apparently following them and actually reading them are two separate things. Those are screenies from beta, and he goes onto explain why those were not included in the release.
I'm a DC Universe slappy over Marvel Universe, so I am not completely unbiased. However, from what I have seen from the game, it definitely has piqued my interest. The promo movie is jaw-dropping, and since my favorite character (Deathstroke) was featured in it, I was elated. That being said, MMO's have this new mindset of building up hype to spark initial sales then dropping the ball. I hope that this doesn't fall into that trap and they have actual intentions of ma
Jharii, I've been eyeing Civ5... hate what they did with Steamworks though. But maybe one day .
You know... I used to be really concerned about the DRM stuff. Then I realized after 3 years that my PC's are always hooked up to the internet anyhow. It seems a small price to pay for quality. Hell, back in the day, I used to build/upgrade my PC just to be able to even play games that I wanted.
Sorry, I've been a bit AWOL because Civilization V is good. Really good.
Oh, also, is there a way to get rid of the ground decal that was placed on a tile? I can't seem to, without replacing it with another decal.
That's been a pet peeve of mine... I think the solution may be a nice 32x32 png file that is just invisible.
Wrong thread. Sorry.
I pre-ordered elemental and ended up returning it based on its state at launch. ... And to be crystal clear and very fair - I'm comparing elemental exactly as it is today (9/24/2010) to civ 5 (9/24/2010) on my pc
I am not saying I disagree with your assessment, but if you returned Elemental, you most certainly are not comparing it "as it is today (9/24/10)." Unless, of course, you are still playing Elemental after you returned it, which would likely

Dark elves have become the most cliche 'bad boy' race in all of fantasy. Duergar would be more interesting, imho, or even githzerai or githyanki before drow.

Then they could catch back up to AMD in the bargain market.
but for all intensive purposes
FYI, it's "for all intents and purposes." It's a common eggcorn. I just started my first game of CivV. I am a rabid fan of Elemental and have the utmost faith in Stardock. I cannot make the determination as of yet whether CivV is dumbed down or has some issues with mechanics. But what I can say is that the game is polished to a blinding sheen. It is highly intuitive, which is why I think a lot of peop
Intel has been doing this for years. Way back when, the 486 DX chip was a better performing chip (and more expensive) than the SX. It also cost less to manufacture the DX since to produce the SX, they had to actually modify the DX.
Wow. I didn't upgrade my work PC to the latest version of Elemental, so that's probably the reason.
HERE you go. I highlighted the tile in the screen shot. The one 4 rows below also has no windows. I believe there are others as well.
That tower doesn't have glass windows (or any windows/doors), so I don't know what you mean.
