That is not "the perception." It is some people's perception. After seeing 1.06 in action after 2 days, and what an improvement it was after day 0, this game was ready for release. Yes, it's still rough around the edges and needs some polish, but the game is solid and very enjoyable, already reaching the point of addicting. Stardock's reputation will get people back. They don't need so set up any dog and pony show. The premature reviews did all that
I am going to eat dinner. When I get back I will either buy this game or move on. But I want to be playing something this weekend. Should this be the game? Will you be playing this game when Civilization V comes out or the month after that or by Christmas? Honestly?
In the present, this game is good. I am having a blast playing it. In the future, it is only going to get better
I prefer hex maps, and I greatly anticipate playing Civ 5 as a result. However, hex maps vs. square maps is a design-time decision. There is really just no feasible way to incorporate it at this time without rewriting the engine from the ground up. And I mean this quite literally. would have to be done anew, from ground zero.
People who buy the game certainly have the right to offer criticism, but "This game sucks" is not criticism. "This game needs these changes to be good/fun" is criticism. and is readily accepted and discussed. There are very few actual "fanboys" on these boards. Offering criticism does not make one a troll any more than liking what we have now make one a fanboy. But badgering SD in every possible thread about how terrible the game is makes one a troll, and refusing to see that the game
Yes. They are trying to stir people to their honest oppinions of the game. Whether or not they slight Stardock in the attempt does not matter in the slightest. The way you've worded this shows quite clearly that your frustration isn't with useless clatter, it's because you feel like you owe it to Stardock to defend them. In reality, it could hurt them.
it stirs nothing except flames and hostility from both sides of this coin. My point was made in m
The worst hyperbole and ill manners I have run into here have come from the fanboys not the critics. They routinely assert that critics should "shut up" like the OP has suggested here since all criticism is a "potshot", that we don't own the game, we are lying about what we encounter if we do own the game, we are paid agents of EA or somesuch, or that we haven't learned how to play the game.
I think what he's trying to say is, we understand these points, but there are still a ton of threads dropping that are just reiterating the same three points over and over again. I agree. no one is really adding anything new, but just making an entire thread to say "I agree that the game is unfinished/great/will be great when finished". It's rather tiresome that half the front page of the forum is clogged up with these. You are entitled to your opinion, but post
I fail to see how saying "this game will be good when it's finished" is a pot shot? Grow some thicker skin and don't take things offensively. One of the great things about Stardock is that they are a company who can appreciate criticism, even if their fans cannot.
Thin skin is not one of my problems. People know exactly what they are trying to stir up by expressing that the game is in some way "not finished." That i
We get it. Some of you think the game is unfinished. Some of us think the opposite. Great. We have a difference of opinion. But it's ridiculous that there are so many people taking every opportunity to drop a "yeah, this game will be good when it's finished" or a "this game should have never been released" on Stardock. It's becoming absurd and childish. Give it a rest and let's move forward. You can never "should have" done something. It
I'm not sure about 40%, but I'm going to assume that the majority of it involves global enchantments, combat enchantments, some city specific enchantments, and some unit enchantments. We haven't seen an example of any globals, yet, so until we do nobody is really going to be able to put one in. I also don't see a way to change what terrain does. Elemental has its basis for special terrain types like fertile land, but MOM uses just straight up t
I would love it too brotha, but unfortunately that is a little out of the question right now. First Stardock needs to flesh out the spells a little bit more so that we have something to work with. We could seriously mod about 40% of the MOM spells with what we have right now but thats nowhere near enough. Second npc's need alot more abilities than what they have right now. Right now we have a list of about 10 npc specials but n
Funny, I have that exact card and no problems. Just out of curiosity, what version of windows? Think I read something about an issue with 64-bit vista/7, I'm still running ye olde and reliable XP.
My Win7/64-bit and ATI 5870 has been a rock star. I think there is an issue, as you mentioned, but it's definitely not blanketed across that OS/GPU.
I wasn't expecting anything until next week. Man I just love the Michigan work ethic. :) Keep up the great work, everyone! And feel free to mix a nap in every now and again. On an unrelated note, my stock in 5 Hour Energy Drink is going through the roof.
The only way to guarantee it is learn to mod. Sorry, but it's true.
My thoughs exactly, Szasta. I am also thinking that the tile editor will be very useful in making 4x4 1" dungeon/wilderness tiles.
There's a lot from that game I'll be using as inspiration as far as game-play mechanics go. In that game though IIRC you couldn't directly control the heroes. You would "assign" them to go on quests and they would have a certain chance of either finding something, like a Dragonlance or a Dragon Orb or one of the Good Dragons, or they'd come back empty handed and then they'd have to rest for a certain amount of time before they could go questing again.
Correct, you would
My God, learn to write using paragraphs. That is so painful to read. Some of the points are valid, the rest seems like a troll post. Hard to tell, my eyes are still bleeding.
I have a feeling that a large number of "I'm disappointed" votes are from people who haven't even played the game.
They can still be disappointed. Me? I am elated with the game. I was really hoping for a 75/25 split between positive and negative, respectively, for the initial polls. This close to 50/50 would stand to reason that Stardock is likely not happy with the results thus far. I'm
Any PnP DM's (or players) going to use the map editor for your game maps? I definitely can see this as a useful and creative tool for this.
Has anyone attempted to retexture any of the models? Can this be done through XML? Just curious, as reskinning can add a ton of flavor to the game without excessive amounts of work.
Elemental and A Song of Ice and Fire seem to be a match made in heaven. I'll be paying close attention to this.
Raven X, Out of curiosity, are you familiar with the old DOS game Dragonlance: War of the Lance. It was quite an underrated TBS game based upon Dragonlance (obviously). I often thought that Elemental shared many qualities with that game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_the_Lance_(video_game )
There are experience books in goodie huts.
