Wanting to have larger armies/battles is not indicative of wanting less depth. It's silly to have a group of 6 guys conquer a kingdom of thousands of citizens. It really is, yet that's what I accomplished in my game last night. I had my sov/spouse/2 adventurers/2 elementals and I defeated an entire kingdom using just that force.
It's not so silly, not when you look at what the sovereign actually is, and what he r

Select the city and then one of the units inside (or just select a unit if they're stood outside), click the actions tab and choose the speech bubble.
With the right tech you can be fielding a total of 80 men in an army. It really depends on how you opt to play the game though; if you want an epic feel try the master quest victory rather than conquest.
The game is currently fine, it's just a little rough around the edges but that'll soon be polished up.
Have you guys bothered researching enchanted weapons yet? The prices get even more ridiculous in the opposite direction - Legendary plate greaves, cuirass, helm and shield costs just over 500 Gildar for the lot, and gives you near enough 40 defence before dexterity bonus, with no malus on combat speed. Though the enchanted sword is 6250, though once your defence is that high you can near enough punch trolls to death before they can grind you down.
They usually get mana when they level up. Which makes summons worth keeping around.
There is also a limit to the number of building slots a city can use, it is set to 50 slots. Resource buildings do not use up any of the building slots... but only as long as they are not next to one of your other city buildings. As soon as you build any standard city building like a house next to a resource building, it is added to the city itself and takes up 4 building slots for no additional benefit.
Actually there's two huge benefits. Th
Notable adventure level is increased by specific techs on the adventure path. You'll see them in the tech description. For champions, if you select the NPC and go to their action menu you'll have a greyed out handshake icon. Hover over it and the tooltip will tell you why you can't talk to them. Usually it's either because they're not in your lands (in which case you need to have a unit adjacent to them) or you haven't enough gold to recruit them.
If you click on the little trader guys wandering along the roads, it does actually tell you what they're boosting and by how much :P
basically, you need good weapons to pierce good armor. Attack shouldn't stack. Nuff said.
Unless there's enough of you to simply pin the victim and stab them through the eye slits anyway.
How does the Vengeance Coating work? I'd really like to know myself because at the moment it doesn't seem to be doing anything. I thought I had to activate it in combat but nope.
IIRC it's the same as the ability - it boost damage when you counter attack.
You're limited in how many summons you can keep around, plus a good sized party of well equipped troops will wipe the floor with just about anything you can summon thanks to their magical attack stack. Hitpoints are determined by unit size, and also equipment like the medic pack or magical items. If you're getting hammered by the wandering mobs though I suspect the problem is you're skimping on armour.
There's also a healing potion and salt pork available at town stores which replenish five hit points whenever you use them. Just like any other RPG, if you want to go on an epic adventure, it pays to stock up on the healing potions first ;)
The extent to which pirates financially harm the gaming industry is debatable -- it's not as high as some publishers claim, but it's certainly not zero impact either -- but they do harm the PC games industry by perception. There are few exclusive PC developers these days because of the perception that you can't make a decent profit selling exclusively PC games because of piracy. There's also cases like Iron Lore Studios, creators
Second, what is the point of giving summons the ability to cast spells from the sovereign's spell book if they essentially have no affect since they are based on intelligence? For example, a familiar cast "Haste" on someone gives it .1 extra action points during combat which does not even appear in the action points of the unit the spell is cast on. As well, as summons level up they do not seem to increase their intelligence so that's out too. So why do they
You sure you haven't already researched it? AFAIK it should never disappear.
I've been chewing through 6 man groups of enemies thanks to the ridiculous arcane armour. Seriously, around 300 gp for 40 defence with no drawbacks ...
1. IIRC both can give you additional spellbooks 3. Check your gold. If you don't have enough gold to hire them you can't talk to them. The higher the NPC level, the more cash you'll need. 4. I think only your sovereign's charisma matters. 5. It's the XP gained from the battle
It's intentional, minors don't grow. The only benefit is they usually allow you to recruit unique troops; if you're of the right alignment.
In my test game, Relias declared war on me for no reason. I figured, it's okay - we live in brutal times. But then his attacks on my city consisted of lone champions (is that the right term) attacking without support. They weren't especially good at it either.
They're not champions, they're soldiers. The AI for some reason likes to give all it's troops a name. It'll definitely attack with groups, assuming of cou
1. They give bonus resources. If you select one of the traders on the route and look at the unit info you'll see something like "20% food", it adds a bonus to the production in it's home city I think. 2, 3 & 4 it seems to be attack rating vs defence rating (randomised) with whatever is left over being the damage. Part of the reason you'll see a lot of misses is that if the damage is completely absorbed by the defence of the target it'll register as a miss. &
Send him into a city and stay there until you get the "is fully rested" message. Or splash out on salt pork and healing potions.
The new patch brings in some ever more interesting behaviour. I started a game sandwiched between two Empires and two minors. I see the Empires expanding, and then for some reason I notice the sovereign and his wife strolling around. They climb a hill overlooking my capital, sit there for a few turns and then declare war on me. Guess that new mine I built must have spoiled their favourite view or something. So they run back to their lands with my army in hot pur
There's magical items available, as well as a variety of mundane items. Shields and two handers are available, though you can't dual wield. Also two different types of mounts too.
Midnight stones are part of a quest that lets you trade them for a magic item.
