Now that Impulse Phase 4 is released, and since there was confirmation elsewhere that the Beta will be out before the end of Summer (Sept. 22nd), it should be out in the next two weeks! [e digicons]:D[/e]

I'm curious, what does the image in the OP have to do with the number of players, especially given that the upcoming Beta won't include vassals and minor factions? Or is it just alluding to the fact that the beta will be coming soon? I'm confused [e digicons]o_O[/e]
Being able to host games yourself is doubly-sweet- great bandwidth if you're just playing local friends and great for SD, too, as it won't consume their bandwidth. I seem to recall something about how all save games will be hosted by SD rather than stored locally. Would that be the case for self-hosted games? So, if I host a server, would each person need to login into Impulse/Elemental in order to access the game, or could they get it from my host? Or do they each m
Sweet model. I'm impressed! [e digicons]k1[/e]
Thanks, Boogie! I'd love to see a recap of how things went and if anything happened at PAX to influence the future direction of Elemental (if anything).
I wonder, though. Will you need to check the "show beta releases" option in Impulse? I'm sure we'll hear more when it's released.
I believe it's set for later this month, with the Elemental beta after that.
What? No twittering during PAX? Is that what Twitter is for? [e digicons]:\[/e]
Turns out I found an older thread on this issue: http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/havok/topic/62220/ Doesn't sound too promising, though. Maybe SD has been able to get them to make 64-bit physics a priority (here's hoping, anyway)! I also found the old post that Brad mentions hoping for 64-bit support. At least the game engine is 64-bit even if physics isn't. https://forums.stardock.com/358643
I was wondering the same thing- has Intel gotten a 64-bit native version of Havok working yet? (I hope this doesn't make a native 64-bit game impossible). According to the Purchase page, it will be 64-bit native: https://www.elementalgame.com/purchase.asp So, maybe it will be possible. Cross your fingers, anyway!
How about the series Hercules or Xena: Warrior Princess? OK, maybe not. ;)
Bummer. I should know better than get my hopes up! I'm sure there's plenty to do in preparation for the madness that will be the beta. Thanks for chiming in, Zoomba!
I'd like to see the exact same scene with and without lighting changes. To be honest, I can't tell much of a difference since they both look good. The second one looks a bit better, but the scene is different and seems to have better graphics generally.
That was an excellent article, Scott! Thanks for sharing. Great pictures, concepts, and info. You're definitely headed in the right direction.
I like the minor improvement idea. They've already mentioned Sword I going to Sword II, but perhaps the verisioning system would be better. And I like the idea of wielding a Sword 2.0 ;) I'm not sure on major improvements being random, though. Having some variability wouldn't be bad, but it needs to be moderated.
Yeah. I can't imagine all of those places typed up their previews on the spot, either. I'd hope they'd go through an editor first. I just hope they're not *all* virtually identical to each other like the last preview. Yes, it was nice a lot of places covered the release of Elemental, but if they all say the same thing, it's really tough to figure out new info (if any). I'm really looking forward to the new info!
About to walk into a 4hr meeting. I guess I will see the new Elemental news when I get home.
4 hour meeting? I've found it very rare that meetings over an hour generate any productivity. Good luck!
Nothing yet...
I'll try and get an internal build testing on XP64 and get back with you....several of us are developing on Vista64 (which works like a champ) so unless it requires a 64 bit version of a app to run, we should be good!
Boogie- you're so nice!
I'm pretty sure SD isn't going to provide support for 64-bit XP based on their responses eleswhere (and thus why they don't list it as a valid OS). Microsoft themselves barely acknowledges its existence. It will probably be a case where, if it works, great. If it doesn't, sorry. At least with Windows 7 out you now have a really great 64-bit option, although 64-bit Vista is pretty good.
Sweetness! I hope one of those tidbits will be on the exact date of public Beta availability. [e digicons]O:)[/e] How often do you guys work over the weekend, anyway?
If Elemental has navies, it should implement the ideas above. I don't remember seeing anything about ship warfare, but I'm not quite as active as others. If navies can't add strategic depth and are enjoyable to play, I'd rather they be left out. Either that, or make them so basic/easy to use that their inclusion doesn't cause any problems. Along these lines, I'd also be interested in knowing whether or not bridges could be built over rivers or not.
The music was good and there are some interesting aspects of the game. But as far as the game play goes, that trailer makes it really hard to tell. I'm going to wait for the reviews first.
Somehow, I gathered that the book development was going to be for Elemental, so this wasn't too surprising. Great concept, though. I'm sure the book ideas have really translated well into the game as you've said, and since Brad is doing the AI, that's even more possibilities for AI personality showing through. Coolness. The Alpha walk-through will be great. I don't know how all of this is juggled (book writing, game development, running a business, working on o
Maybe he's just a bot, programmed by Brad... ;) I have faith in Kryo and SD, but as SD continues to grow, I'd think the responsibility to maintain good communication in the forums would, too. Having a dedicated bug tracking software people could directly submit bugs into could help with time and scale.
