Derek, just wanted to say that after reading the OP I thought I'd like parts of the tech trees to be hidden away to give more excitement and randomness, but after reading your two replies I became pretty convinced that it's better the way you have set it up currently. Thanks for the journal and replies, info on FE is pretty scarce. :)

And the fix for this kind of an issue should be able to be implemented in less than an hour by a single programmer.
Stardock will invent new letters. They're that good.
I wanted to comment on the animations feeling off and monsters giving more leniency. I agree with this 100%, but one really good comment that someone posted when the first FE trailer came out was that the fiery snake animations seemed really off. When you deal with monsters based on real life animals, I really, strongly suggest to check out YouTube vids for inspiration on movement & attack animations. Clunkily animated animals can have a surprisingly big effect on the experience,
To the OP, I don't have a favourite track as so far the songs feel really forgettable to me.
Music is one part that could elevate the atmosphere of this game into completely new heights. Here are some good examples of music making the game come alive. I've tried to pick music from older games instead of big budget AAA games from the present day: HoMM 2&3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZYbNlujoEc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmCwz9zf01I Civi
Why does this discussion continue after I made the point that the OP can actually go and get a refund and we can all stop bitching? You guys just want to bitch don't you.
louist, do as I do and shelf the game until 1.3 / Fallen Enchantress. Spend a little time on the forums every now and then and see what's going on. Let the people who enjoy the bug reporting do that. There really is no other option, other than getting exhausted by playing a game when you should actually be enjoying it. For the record, I feel exactly the same as you do.
Emperor_Nero, if you asked a refund when the game was first released, you would've gotten one. They said you will get two expansions for free, and you still do. They *never ever* promised any specific release date for the expansions. I am pretty sure of that since I've been following the dev journals and news constantly. If you make your case now about feeling fooled with all of this, I believe you might even be able to still get a refund of Elemental if you emailed sales@star
This is the shortest summary I can think of on the subject: 1) There are no expansions planned for War of Magic. 2) War of Magic might stop being developed after version 1.3. This will remain to be seen, depending on the reaction we have for 1.3. 3) There will be at least two new games released, Fallen Enchantress and ************. You will get a discount from Fallen Enchantress if you have bought War of Magic. 4) If you bought War of Magic last year you get Fa
Hopefully 1.3 will arrive early enough so that Fallen Enchantress will not completely overshadow it. Because I would definitely like for both games to have a future in case 1.3 turns out to be good.
I will promise to play Elemental: WoM v1.3 through and try my best to enjoy and look at it from a completely fresh perspective. I'm dying to find out how it plays and how I ultimately feel about this game. Whatever the case, this has been a really, really interesting ride.
You're not too good of a lurker if you don't even know that FE is a standalone game. And let's be honest, there is no comparison between making a mod for Civ IV and making a new game based on an engine. There is very little reason to think that FE would be a bad game because of elemental.
I just hope v1.3 eventually gets here. The game has been on hold for me since release, and v1.3 is when I'll try it again.
I think people have a tough time understanding how much of a "Brad Wardell's olde software shoppe" Stardock is. It's really very understandable that he doesn't want it to transform into a retail giant, because the massive competition and the amount of money involved in the business and the work required to keep things growing would inevitably lead to having to have a bigger corporate strutcure. When you are the end user, it is easy to forget that there are actual people behind the
Now that the news has settled in my head, I don't really feel that negative about this. This is a good thing since Brad & Co. can focus more on Elemental and what they know best. I just wish that GameStop will indeed follow on the same path as Stardock did with Impulse. The deal Brad got for Impulse had to be pretty damn sweet, too. The man knows how to run a business, make money and still live his life the way he wants. Quite a damn impressive character.
Thanks for the link Cruxador, that was very informative. So, my initial guess was correct for all other parts except that I didn't know Impulse had become the main business revenue generator for Stardock.
I wish this news came a day later. My guess is that GameStop gave a really good offer and Brad felt like he has too much on his plate and wouldn't be able to fight a full fledged fight against Steam. So he decided it's better to focus on Elemental and Stardock, since the main busines revenue for Stardock comes from non-gaming software.
Absolutely fantastic work on the new mounts. I love the deer. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what this mod brings to the table.
Hehe, seldom do you see this unanimous vote from the community. :) I like larger maps too, and I always wish the games would be made with focus on keeping things interesting even if the opposing players aren't near you and most important of all not make you completely overpowered when you finally meet the AI. I use smaller maps only when a game fails to keep things interesting in the larger maps. I usually see this as a fault in the game.
I just hope all of these and loads more from the entries will be incorporated, plus additional quests straight from SD. There are tons of great quest ideas in the contest entries not to be missed. But I also hope the quest hut system is revamped so that there will actually be permanent inns and other quest hubs that don't disappear after a single quest is completed. There is so much untapped potential in the quest system.
To be honest I have no idea what it would require for me to enjoy playing the game. I'll just let SD decided that for me and wait and check what the next big patch / expansion does and see if that was enough. And continue doing this until the game is good. I don't see any other way of figuring it out.
Then again it takes me just 1min to write this reply, so I don't mind these threads. I wouldn't buy until the first expansion or later.
I want specific special quest huts / quest-related locations and goodie piles spawn in forests. That will make them interesting enough.
Fuck this. If there is any proper pathfinding in the game, then overlaying that path visually doesn't take any time at all. It's been almost half a year already since the first request of this feature that I was aware of. Then again I'm not convinced there is any proper pathfinding done in this game since the units move in such idiotic ways. The lack of this feature is starting to piss me off.
