Well, since I tend to alt tab out of the game, having the taskbar set to autohide or moving it to another location is annoying. As is changing the options all the time. So instead, until such a time as Stardock fixes this 1.5 year old bug I have written a small C# program that launches elemental fallen enchantress and fixes the window position problem. If you two are interested, you can download it here: http://dl.dropbo

Nah, it is exactly the same as in WoM. If you switched WoM to 'fake fullscreen' (windowed at desktop resolution), which is what Fallen Enchantress uses, it had this exact same bug. In true fullscreen mode it had the other issue you described.

I just downloaded the beta, and started the game. I was wondering to myself whether the game would be fully visible, or partially off-screen. You see, I have my taskbar to the left side of my monitor, and War of Magic put the game partially off-screen when running in 'full screen windowed mode', Due to not starting in the upper left corner, but next to the taskbar. True Fullscreen mode did not work properly either, but I haven't seen that option in Fallen Enchant

The windows version of the game works perfectly even on windows 7, as long as you set the appropriate directdraw compatibility settings for the game in the registry. See this thread for a windows 7 64 bit utility that adds the 256 color directdraw compatibility settings to the registry for you, for the specified program, which was originally made for the original starcraft: http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/2981-starcraft-fix-holy-cow-22.html
The scaling thing is completely intended! Combat is deadly. In general, it really is much easier to create portable means of causing massive damage (like a bomb) than it is to have a portable means of defense against it. (like a portable bomb shelter?) In that case, it's Defense that you really need to protect you - don't get hit to begin with.
But we are not talking about bombs and bomb shelters here. This is a fantasy game. True, a spear is cheap, and armour that prot

I don't like your damage armour interaction: DamagePerHit = Attacker.Damage ^2 / (Attacker.Damage + Defender.Armour) Damage scales far better than armour. If tech increases and damage increases with it, armour values would have to increase to ludicrous amounts to compensate for the increased damage, and keep DamagePerHit the same. For example: 5 Damage, 0 Armour -> DamagePerHit = 5 10 damage, 10 armour -> DamagePerHit = 5 20 damage, 60 arm

AI difficulty give the AI bonuses. Harder AI's are more difficult to defeat. The idea in setting the AI difficulty by default to world difficulty is to have an easy way to set general game difficulty for the player. Easy: opponent ai: AI cannot use combat magic. AI plays at 50% intelligence. AI gets 10% income penalty. Normal Opponent ai: same game rules, plays at 75 intelligence. Challenging: double starting gold, full intelligence. Hard: Triple starting gold,

There is no player difficulty setting. The one in the new game screen is the world difficulty setting, that determines the difficulty of monsters and such.

It isn't empire in general; it is just the empire of Umber that has full mana regeneration. In CoreRaceConfigs.xml it has A_ManaRegeneration set to 50, for 50 mana per turn regeneration.

I posted about this bug back in the beta. It was never fixed, and now the game is released. So I'm posting about it again... If you load an autosave made on the turn you finished research, the research is still finished, the tech level of the tree is still raised, but you are not given the choice of a benefit. To reproduce: Start or load any game. Set autosave interval to 1 turn to ensure you have an autosave for any turn. Make sure you have tech income. Press end turn until t

But you have to understand that 3, as you describe it, means that a squad has identical defense in practice as an individual. The game displays a higher defense, therefore 3 is unlikely to be the case. I also want option three to be the case as you described it, with the caveat that I also want the side system that gives an extra defense roll for every slain individual by a single attack. If a big dragon wants to kill a squad of 4 knights in a single blow, it should have enough damage

He never said it would be 4 individual attacks. He just said it would be 4 individual rolls. He could very well be describing a system that adds all 4 knights damage together, and then gives a single defense roll against it for every figure in the enemy squad. That matches both Frogboy's description and what I have seen in battle. It also is entirely different from what we want, and is described in point 2, making the statement that parties already work like that false.
If the defending unit has a defense of say 16, that party of knights may not do any damage at all.
So is that defense of 16 rolled only once, or 4 times just as if he were attacked by 4 individuals? Also, if such a party is attacked by a squad of 8 spear-man, and each knight has 10 defense, how do they roll for defense? - 1 roll of 1 - 40, the displayed defense value (this one is inconsistent with the way you describe attacks work - 4 rolls of 1
For the second and third guy, armor didn't even matter, because the armor is counted once. The solution? A more complex way to determine damage done to a stack. If damage was high enough to kill the 1st guy, then count the armor of the second. If he was killed too, count the armor a 3rd time. Etc.
Did you know that is exactly how Master of magic does it?

Do you really think they are going to change such things now? I myself had made a big thread about point 1 during beta 1, when still could have easily changed it, with a lot of examples and arguments on why it was important to have a more sensible random roll distributions, called "on attack/defense probability distributions." Others have made similar threads I think. If Stardock was ever willing to experiment with such fundamental changes, they surely would have done it then, during

Setting the taskbar to autohide and back again is more annoying than having to switch out of the game prior to main menu (in order to avoid the particle effects disappearing) and then back again. But thanks for the tip anyway. And why do you call it a dock? My issue is with the task bar itself, you know, the bar with the start button and all that. Not a third party "dock" program or something.

Due to the fact that alt-tab crashes the game, (nvidia video card), I wanted to give windowed mode a try. Kryo mentioned that running the game in windowed mode at your desktop resolution looks just like fullscreen. That however, is not the case for me. When I run the game like that, the taskbar is still fully visible at the left side of the screen (I have my taskbar at the left in Windows 7), and Elemental's window is displaced the width of the taskbar to the right. This makes the right part

When I am at the menu, and I alt tab out of the game, then back into it, particle effects stop working. I can check this by entering the particle editor, there is nothing visible there once I tab back in. Also, when I run the game the cursor is stuck in the region my task bar is (the left of the screen, windows 7 64 bit), and clicking the mouse acts as clicking on the taskbar, bringing me out of the game. If I was already at the menu at that time, this game switching has caused all pa
Now attack worked like this: The hero attacked and did an average of 4 damage [remember in MoM each attack and defense symbol hat a 30% chanceto inflict or avoind one damage, when neglecting hit (heroes typically hat 60%+ chance to inflict damage, through)] of these 4 damage the fists man in the unit can avoid 1 damage with his 4 defense and gets hit for 3 Damage, which kills him. The remaining 1 Point of damage is absorbed by the defense of the second unit. On the attack back, the arm

The exact duration of the window is unknown, but past windows lasted for about a week. Stardock generally announces the exact duration of the window just before said window opens.

By the way, if you really want to know how to run 'as root' under windows 7: The feature is called "admin approval mode". It makes administrator accounts run programs with standard user privileges unless you explicitly tell it to run as administrator. This makes it so that if you run a program under an administrator account, it does not have write access to c:/. If you disable "admin approval mode", all programs run with administrative privileges unless you or the program expl
