Actually (in regards to 2A) it wasn't so bad as long as you built your cities around food resources. Sure, it limits your freedom somewhat, but it also makes sense. This is a ruined and decaying land where your sovereign must imbue part of them-self into restoring the land just so people can live on it. So if you build a few cities around fertile land, apiaries, an oasis, etc, you should be generating enough carry-over food to build some larger cities without, to grab other useful re

Well, I'm (I'm assuming) about 2/3rd finished with the second mission of the Empire campaign. Game is still running smoothly with no CTDs (I only mention this because beta 2b crashed every time I try to look at the Tutor unit). I have found a new bug, I think, in that one of my storyline character's abilities does nothing. It claims to do damage, but when I use it, I see a nice lightning strike, but it's 0 for 5 for actually damaging anything. I don't even get the "miss" notification.

I've played EFS and the only one that caused me to pause was the biochems. It also bugged me that the lighting on the singularity and ingot was opposite that of the gems. I do like the simplicity of them all, though. Also- who still mines in UO? Get a bot to do it for you :P
*The graphics could use some AA. It's not terrible, but it's noticeable. I'm running a 260 card, i7 2.7gHz processor, and 12 gigs RAM, and I'd like to make use of that. Have you tried toggling forced AA in the video card control panel? Works for most games, but some have graphics glitches with forced AA.
I hadn't even considered trying force AA, but I will give it a shot nest time I load it up. [quote who="

No worries, I understand how early in the works you are and how prone to change most things will be. I just felt that if I didn't say something now, I'd forget to later. As for the Extremely Rare Harvestable Resource, how about adimantium? It's been used in almost as much SF writing as in fantasy, it's an established concept that most gamers will intrinsically attribute great value to, and I've been playing a lot of Dwarf Fortress lately. That last point isn't necessarily relevant, bu

I haven't had time to play yet today, but here are some thoughts I didn't get to post last night, many of which are more critical than yesterday's: *The Node/Rod mechanic: While I have no problem with the new node mechanic, I do dislike how slowly your "territory creep" (to use a Starcraft term) spreads. There was a gold generating building pretty much JUST outside the my territory on turn one of my first mission, and it took 15-16 turns for my territor

Well, I have hit my first bug. About 4 turns into the first mission of the human campaign, I opened the help menu in combat, and all the colours... sort of reversed. The whole screen was bright pink, and the text was fuzzy. Went away when I closed the help window, and came back when I opened it again.

A little more on combat, now that I have finished the tutorial. I was wrong about all units having only a single action. Some have multiple, (especially the enemy units I fought!) but my Titan did have a neat Earthquake ability that he could use to damage every enemy instead of attacking, though his standard attack was significantly stronger, if only against a single opponent. There are some other nice touches to combat. Mousing over an enemy will tell you how much damage you

First Impressions (Mid-Tutorial): Largely objective Pros and Semi-Pros: *The game, despite what you may or may have not read is certainly a Disciples game. The town management is identical, though there is now a merchant in your capital, and I am pretty sure that was not the case in DII. Being able to equip a

Well, I have installed it, I have run it, and I have experienced Norton immediately removing it as it believes it is a suspicious file. I'm going to go out on a limb and restore it and see how things go. Also: version 1.6 suggests some fixes have been thrown in ;) And yes, I am a NA resident.

AD&D (Actually, now that I think of it, RIFTS) thought me to min-max. I've been moving away from the strategy in games lately, though, and will tend to go for either for balanced or concept strategies. I think I've lost some of the joy in winning all the time :)

Hey now, I've had a lot of crappy pizza, beer or no. I mean, have you tried Domino's? It's a pity I crave it when drunk, because every year it morphs into something a little closer to cardboard. Setting issues with Akella aside for now, A lot of the strategy games I enjoy these days are coming out of eastern/northern Europe. My favorite publishers right now are Paradox and 1C. The west still seems fixated on RTS titles (Firaxis is a notable exception) and the good ones are pr

I'm glad that you could enjoy working as much as playing. It's a pity that there were so few hosted events on the core shards, in all my years I came across only 4 or 5, but they were always a step up from even the best dungeon runs or "surprise" PvP moments. I tried free shards for a while, even tried starting one with a friend, but it fizzled out very quickly. Most servers were frequently deserted, and the best servers were operation under an invitation system that I

D'oh, I didn't look closely enough at that release date! It was in the New Release section of impulse, and I didn't look further than that. Either way, I've purchased it, so I'll let you know in a few weeks x.x As for only three races, DII only started with 4, if I recall correctly (human, undead, daemons, dwarfs?) It's a bit of a let-down, but being a TBS junkie, I can't say no. And I to hope that the time between releases has gone into bug-fixing as well as localizati

I prefer the tab system myself. However, using either option, Tourresh, I think you would do well to create some greater contrast between the Unit Info section and the queue sections. I know it won't be confusing, but something about it just... tickles the back of my mind? That odd feeling would go away if the Information section had a different background color (like the hue of the green you are using for the lower headings?) or a more significant border. Just something to make

::UPDATE:: I've scrapped this first post and am replacing it with a copy and paste of what I just posted on the Kalypso forums at at Chip's behest. It's a more refined version of the first two pages of this thread. Thanks for reading! Also: here's hoping the formatting holds up between forums... Given the... less than stellar reaction from Russian gamers when Disciples III was first released, I was understandably hesitant about buying the game. In the end, my love for

Not that Oblivian is without it's bugs, great game that it is. Risen, though, is surprisingly good, although I found the progression/scaling of enemies to be a little clunky. As in, they seem to be either very easy, or damned impossible, depending on your level and skills, with little in-between. Still, the quests are numerous and interesting, most have multiple solutions based on what kind of character you are trying to play, and there is a lot of non-combat content which rounds the

Let's face it, though. Pre-order betas, the vast majority of the time, are a marketing and sales tool used to notch up hype and awareness. These sorts of betas are usually put out once a game is stable and the mechanics are solid because people, having already paid for it, are going to treat it as the real thing. And bad word of mouth about a game, even one in "beta," will have a very noticeable impact on a game's sales. Look at the BC2 pre-order beta. Essentially a finished product.
