Another thing that gets me is his claim that Brian Wood was lead designer on COHO. He is (was :( ) a lead designer at Relic, but as I understood it, COHO was developed out-of-house in an Asian studio (And was live in Asia a while before it was opened to NA), which makes it seem like Solace is just name dropping. What I REALLY don't get, though, is why the man bothers with this spam at all.

Ugg, people. With the better "graphics" "mods" distributed WITH the latest version of the game included, I don't see what the issue is. You do no work whatsoever on your end, and you get one of the deepest most interesting games since... uh, since... well since something else deep and interesting. Not to mention the Complete Noobs Pack, which is a bundled distro with the most popular "graphics" "mods," and a slew of useful third-party apps like Dwaft Therapist, that allow you to do a

First one was released for free, if you need the fix. Have a look for Hidden and Dangerous Gold or some such. It fixed a lot of the more glarring bugs, too.

[quote who="Annatar11" reply="53" id="2784208"] I am not crashing or anything drastic, but I am pretty sure I am taking a performance hit of some kind, chugging like others have mentioned. It looks like Civ 5 is not exempt from memory leaks. I'm playing on a Huge Earth-type map, and after maybe 2-3 hours it starts getting bogged down pretty majorly. Stuff starts taking longer, the talking heads make the PC start to choke.. then I restart the game, and everything's fine again. I have

Been playing and largely enjoying Civ 5. High points: Great level of polish. The Civ's bonuses have been tweeked, but so far seem pretty balanced. They are also more interesting by far than the bonuses in Civ 3 and 4. New hex maps and tactical combat are awesome. The mechanics in general seem more refined. Culture, boarder growth, etc work well. Game feels a little more dynamic with city-states and all they entail. Low poi

I was about to denounce Sloan and Grove for replying to spam, but thought I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Who knows, maybe this guy just really likes to inform others about free-to-play games. So let's look at his history. I see Solace773 has two types of posts. The first type is much like this one; a paragraph about a free-to-play online game that, while not exactly hyping the product, is too positive to be considered unbiased. Suggestive of spamming. <p

It's better than Dominions 3 AI... The AI isn't near as bad as it was in AoW, though you can still exploit it, strategically. That said, it does fine in tactical battles, and if you get to the point where the AI is becoming too easy, try it on a harder setting. Cheating AIs are always a bit of a challenge. Have a look at the unofficial balance patch. While I don't recall it changing the AI at all, it vastly improves the unit balances and (last time I played multiplayer) was more or le

+1 Wesnoth. It's a truly great game. A triple A title and open source to boot. The multiplayer lobby is generally buzzing. There is also TripleA, an Axis and Allies clone which, I believe, has online play. Also free.

It's very niche market. I seem to recall Shrapnel Games having a library of naval titles, but when I checked all I saw was Salvo!. I've never played it, though. There's a series, though I can't recall what it was called. Something like Cutlass and Cannons, or Men and Iron or... something. I couldn't find it via Google, but the title was something like those... Oh, also, Pirates Gold (Sega Genesis) has aged fairly well, and the remake Pirates! is a solid game. They might not be quite w

You know what? While I appreciate members of these boards posting blurbs about games they enjoy and upcoming games that look promising, it generally turns me off when someone joins a community just to plug a game. It's just one step short of spam.

Well, that may because the game isn't immediately rewarding. It has a steep learning curve, outdated graphics, and automated combat. It's hard enough to get into that you will lose, a lot, in the beginning. It's a deeply complex game with a truly insane number of variables. It may well be that the community seems older because it takes a much greater level of dedication and patience than most other games out there, and those who stick around to the point where the game really starts to become

I'm underwhelmed. I'm sticking with the game, not because I've put money into it, but because I truly feel that it will be improved. Hell, look at the last 2 patches. But at this point, it feels like half a game: Things more-or-less up-to-snuff: *Cities. I think they will benefit from some greater options over time, but right now they're solid. *Diplomacy. Again, solid, but could use some love down the line. *Research. Works well, is fairly varied. But again, w

Nenjin, I thought this was a great review, and I second your opinions. Especially the underwhelming magic. This is Elemental: War of Magic, so I'd like to see a greater importance attributed to magic in general.

I understand the where the argument "Go play the sand-box" comes from, but that doesn't change the fact that the campaign is a mess. (Or that this thread is regarding the campaign, exclusively.) I forgot to touch on the length of it, that this is only one of three episodes, but that doesn't quite cover for the fact that it is as short as it is. Naming it a campaign suggests that it is a lengthy endeavor, which it isn't. At the same time you can't call it a tutorial because, as

I'm playing through the campaign and I have a few thoughts on it that I would like to share. First off: The latest patch has done wonders for it. I'm now hundreds of turns into the campaign, and I haven't crashed yet. I tried the campaign briefly during the pre-release, and it was a painful 5 minutes that ended in a CTD. So props go out to Stardock for the quick and effective patching. That said, it has not been without hiccups. I still get random slowdowns and buggy unit beha

Just a bit of an update: These issues only seem to occur while playing on a different windows user from the one Elemental was installed under. This second user should have full admin rights, so I don't see what the problem is, but there is something. Likewise, though I uninstalled Elemental before installing the pre-release version last night, I am (while playing on this second user) asked to customize my faction when starting a new game. Something that should no longer be possible, a

Savegame: http://filebin.ca/sywkdy/cantcontinue.EleSav It happens two turns in for me. I found that if I zoomed in and out on my town a few times, it would prompt a message from Jan, and allow me to end the turn. Also, a few turns in I get my first points in research, but the window to select a research group is blank. No images/colours/descriptive texts. Neither of these problems were popping up in my other games.

I'm only a few turns (10 or so?) into a new game, and the button to proceed to the next turn is grayed out. I've tried canceling and reissuing movement orders, but that didn't seem to help. Debug file is at the external link. Thanks.
