I'm enjoying it so far as well. Despite Obsidian's rather poor track record, and a few major bugs in NV, I too feel that it's more of a Fallout game than Fallout 3 was. It's hard to pin down exactly what's at the root of that feeling, but tone plays a role. It's a lot more liberal with humor, which was always a big part of Fallout (for me), than Fallout 3 was. I've played around a bit with the companions, so I can add something there. The companions are quite helpful. They each add a
Until the end of THIS MONTH (October 31), anyone who purchase Elemental: War of Magic, will get the first two expansions for the game for free (as well as our normal long-term support for the game itself).
Is this offered retroactively as well? I understand it's important to drum up new customers, but what about those of us who have supported E:WOM since the beginning?
Was Space Empires the game where you had really interesting unique racial traits like races that were made of energy and lived on space stations or races that left giant mine fields on the map? I remember it was a really interesting game, although I also remember that (at least in the version I played) 90% of winning it was about extremely detailed and lengthy micromanagement of your colony and transport ships to build your economy to a cr
I'd like to third or fourth the suggestion of trying out IV over V. SE: V was ambitious, but it was also plagued with bugs, somewhat faulty mechanics, and some balance issues. And the worst UI I've ever seen in a 4x title. All in all, IV is still a sleeker, cleaner and more user-friendly title with solid mechanics. Not that V is all bad. I appreciate a lot of the ideas like system supplies, hex grids, the scanner revamp, and the changes to research. Root around for a demo for
As Cosian said, focus on planets closer to your habitability rating in the beginning. New colonies can be very expensive, and early on, a single expensive choice can stall your entire economy. The general rule of thumb is to colonize anything with an upkeep under 30k to start, and most players will, in the early expansion phase, dedicate half to two-thirds of their economy to colonization. Once those early planets start contributing, you'll be in a much better position to really get into rese
I think we can ALL agree that Colonization was the best civ game of all time :)

Ugg, a lot of pain in this thread. Did no one seriously see it for what it was? It was very carefully worded to be both suggestive but vague. The fact that they were going to make a future announcement through Facebook and Twitter certainly hinted at the fact that it was a marketing stunt... And they technically were in beta, no matter how stable and polished their site was. I'm not saying it wasn't in poor taste, or misleading. It was some pretty blatant attention-whoring. Bu
Well, I personally loved it. It wasn't that bad, just it got dogpiled upon release due to few minor issues. Maybe its just cause I skipped MoO2 and and went directly from MoO, but I didn't notice any gamebreaking issues in it. It was fun to play. Lets hope Atari will release a digital download via Impulse. I want to see what all the fuss is about. I've heard once it was patched up it was a good game. back on topic. When I go
CAPSLOCK IS CRUISECONTROL FOR COOL I'd really like to support you, but you make it so damned hard.
That's a valid opinion, Aractain, but not all of us have a gaming coterie to draw upon. My wife isn't a gamer, and my old circle's combined schedules have become far too convoluted these last few years to really get something as serious as Civ V going. Heck, we all purchased Civ IV together and I'd be surprised if we managed more than 3 or 4 hours total. So, if I'm in a multiplayer mood, it's random strangers for me.
Songhai, or however is spelled, was a Western African Civ. I suppose you might discount it because it was Muslim, but I think it counts. I haven't tired multiplayer yet, but Civ 4 was TERRIBLE for people dropping the game whenever they had a bad few turns. I don't think I had a single game where someone didn't drop out.
Hey folks. Running the game in DX 9 works more or less perfectly for me, on highest settings (Except AA which seems unavailable?). Kind of counter-intuitive :P Thanks you all :) Otherwise, random thoughts: Now, pre-order gimicks are just that, and I don't usually go in for them unless I know I'm getting the game anyway, but I have to say that the Mesopotamia map is pretty fantastic, and easily my favorite at the moment. Definitely feels like a lot of love went into it. <p
Shadow Magic is the best. It added 2 (or three?) races, each with some unique mechanics, a third plane (on top of caves and surface) etc etc. Still, the others each have their worth. AoW I was oozing with an odd charm, AI issues aside. I also enjoyed its campaign more. AoW II was a great successor, and SM was a very solid expansion. I still break out the map editor from time to time, when I'm feeling creative but don't want to actually, you know, play anything.
Awesome!! Question: If someone ordered Age of Wonders when it was initially offered on Impulse and now they're interested in purchasing the Trilogy, can they contact support to "upgrade" for the difference?
I can't speak specifically for Stardock, but I've had that same problem pop up at GG. I purchased a game there, and that weekend the bundled the game and 2 expansions for less than I paid. All it took was one po

Still haven't had a chance to start up the game in DX9. Saryk, In some defence of the reviews of Civ V: While there are certainly issues with with compatibility and memory leaks, these are pretty minor, and I can get the game running almost 100% if I gut the video settings. There are the odd bugs (Barb encampment spawning over a road makes the road disappear, though the tile still acts as a road, the mod auto save issue...). But I've also never suffered a crash of any f
I see your Boatmurdered, and raise you a Bronzemurdered.
My only real criticism is the two dominant vertical ships. I assume those are the human ships? Either way, the second one, farther off, feels like a pure copy and paste of the first one which is a waste. Showing a different ship, or the same from another angle would have been more fulfilling. But more work on your part, obviously.
Rather than quote you all (and thanks for the replies!) I'll just lump it all together. I'm running: Windows 7 ult, 64bit i7 920 2.7GHz 12GB RAM Geforce 260 It's well above the recommended specs. I've been running it with DX 11, I'll have to give 9 a shot later. I updated the drivers yesterday, and they shouldn't be an issue. This has me stumped. To what degree is Bungie still Independent? They have a 10-year contract with one of the largest and most nefarious publishers out there, one that is known for screwing over anyone with even a loose relationship to them. Now, I know Bungie is still technically independent, but tying themselves to Activism for a decade, after a long stint with Microsoft, doesn't exactly instill them with "Indy cred," and in my opinion, at least, doesn't make them truly independent. I've made the mistake of using D2D on a few occasions. I wouldn't even place them in the same boat as Impulse, Steam, or Gamers Gate. It's an old, heavy-handed relic of a distribution platform. I've rebought everything worth owning from other sources. Activation limits, for an online-distributor with draconian DRM already, is just stupid, and insulting. Their DRM is, like mentioned above, incompatible with most mods, or even do-it-yourself tweaks. As a mod-happy strategy gamer
