These are pretty good suggestions and would bring out more variety in the weapons. However, I don't think I'd apply too much of this to armor because the armor is more of an abstraction to your tech level then actual armor (ie. defense). Give us more armors in Elemental and you could really apply this.
1. How is it a cop out? 2. What you are describing is a overly simplified system where rock always beats scissors no matter if its one tiny rock vs 20 big scissors. What I described is merely mixed unit tactics where each has their weaknesses and strengths. The alternative is either having all of them be identical except for the graphics (which is crappy form of balance) or to have one clearly superior (current state). <b
Oooh, you mentioned Dwarf Fortress so I immediately agree. Actually, I don't think there is a way to properly eliminate HP. Dwarf Fortress is an amazing game with an amazing combat simulation BUT it has it's own faults. How often do you accidently lose that awesome bad-ass Militia Commander? Additionally, most games have very complex graphics systems that couldn't possibly render all the details (I'd LOVE to see one try though). Regardless, I doubt we
I like it. I'm unsure if you addressed this but I'd split Fighter into something like Warrior (attack or defense oriented), Thief/Assassin (crits), & Archer (bow or ranged stuff). And we REALLY need a leader path... something like Commander (army bonuses), Administrator (city or empire bonuses), Merchant (gildar bonuses), and Researcher (research bonuses).
Hate hate hate RPS system .
What he said . A rock-paper-scissors system is a cop-out way of dealing with balance issues. It's usually not fun, usually not realistic (in any fashion), and usually boring. Empire Earth, for example, used this system and basically ruined the game for me. However, one legit example of this would be spear beats horseman... th
I don't think I have a good solution besides just unlocking a majority of the clothes, faces, heads, and hairs for most races... and just adding more content. I think a big problem is that people sometimes just start to look alike (see the Total War series, lol).
I love reading these blogs, it really gives an insight into the development world and process. Anyways, the big challenge will be dealing with heroes. They are the most fun and enjoyable aspect of the game but they can easily be way to powerful or far to weak. There is also little uniqueness between the different "classes" or functions of the heroes that needs to be worked out. Thinking of things like these I'm still glad you guys picked up Derek Paxto
Champions do seem improved since WoM but they do need some more love. I think the best or easiest way would be to do more with traits and "classes" that they can follow or develop into. I like the random selection of traits you can pick from but sometimes you get traits that mean NOTHING or do not help that character. There certainly does need to be more done to make them all stand out from one another and unique. Also, add voices.
Start by poking around your custom sovereign .xml file, it's very easy to modify and doesn't change any core gameplay. This will also begin to give you an understanding of the .xml file system Elemental uses. C:\Users\ [USERNAME] \Documents\My Games\FallenEnchantress\Units Can also mess with the your custom races and such.
I actually like the look of the cities but I think they could use some work. I REALLY enjoy seeing a big completed city.
Civilization 4's AI didn't start off very intelligent and they are granted bonuses based on difficult level. Almost EVERY game does that... just not at a 900% level. Anyways, don't attack the man, attack the problem. I promise that will do you no good.
Look, Chuck Norris can hardly beat a bear... how do you expect us to? I support this measure . Please reduce it's effectiveness and accuracy! Save Chuck Norris . Killed by bears in: Dwarf Fortress, Skyrim, Oregon Trail, Cabala's Hunting... nerf mauling.
I'd just like to point out, despite the "Rediculious" difficulty, maybe the passive % bonuses should be nerfed in favor of more AI processing... if possible. But yeah, I think Relias should have attacked.
Try playing on a higher difficulty, it should become less "boring". The easy difficulties are supposed to be EASY and less eventful (thus boring) so you can better learn the game. I think FE has a lot more depth and is much more enjoyable then FE. If it can be polished a little more, balanced a little, and have a few more features added (ie. Dynasties, for one, lol) then it'll be a good or even great game.
Actually, if you want more factions you can create them in sovereign creation. If you want to get really fancy you could also assign them their own tech trees, equipment, buildings, weapons, races... need I go on? That's what can be so magical with Elemental.
Lord William T. Riker, friend of Q, I would also suggest that you do some random maps and make sure the resource density isn't set to something really low.
Agreed. It's downright broke. Also, the Guard command probably needs to display something somewhere (to inform you the unit is guarding) but otherwise works fine.
Sweet, more cowbell.
lol, I'm having this problem too. I have some time but not nearly enough... :(
Excellent read. Good to see you're getting off to an early and productive start, Heavenfall :D
Quoting Thormodr, reply 26 I think you should have to build a road to an outpost in order to extract the resource. A pioneer should have the ability to do that. I kinda like this idea. It's quite a bit too easy to exploit resources remotely now.
That'd be a good compromise to prevent people from expanding too rapidly with outposts and give the opponent a chance to counter their expansion.
There were 5 tech trees in WoM and Derek cut them down to 3. I like the other way too, but the diplomacy tree and the adventure tree were the same cost as any other without as much usefulness. Let's not forget how much more balanced this tree is. We have come a long way from then 5 tech I win strategy. I wonder how soon they plan on making changes to improvements. I get the feeling that the changes will be less significant than
Honestly, I think removing the Civilization tech tree would be a mistake and would weaken the game. I believe that it's fine the way it is but could possibly use some improvements and adjustments but nothing this major.
I think healing should be tied into something like level and maybe also intelligence. I think it might require some thinking to make it balanced and effective.
They do seem a little overpowered, however, they're still fun.
