Impulse and GG tell you if a game requires Steam (though GG calls it a 3rd party client, which can also mean Origin)

One of my worries about TC is that there will be units that are vastly superior in TC to quick combat. Hopefully QC in FE will be TC that is AI vs AI and unseen.

You have to get your own exclusives, and that would have taken money Stardock didn't have or at least wasn't willing to spend. The only company able to do that was EA, which is why I think Origin will be successful eventually. (and Blizzard's been doing it for years)

Another issue with TBS is profitability. These games are expected to be very moddable so it's hard to nickel and dime successfully. The one advantage you have is that the market is affluent, so piracy rates are lower (piracy is primarily a function of lack of wealth) Niche genres probably need to be priced higher then they are, though the expansion model takes care of that. GC2 was effectively $90 or so once you counted all the exp

Actually, they would want to shut it off. Used games don't benefit the publishers of new games one bit. They reduce the sale of new games. If owners could make a license needed to play a game period, I'm sure they would. The infrastructure isn't there yet, especially since many consoles aren't hooked up to the internet. The "online passes" were a measure specifically introduced to cut down on used game value. The pro

The Gamestop model is built heavily on used game sales. They don't make enough money on new retail purchases to have all those Gamestops running around. Once the console markets shut off the used market, which will happen, Gamestop's in serious trouble.
The millions of users who use it monthly disagree.
I can't speak to Gamestop's numbers either, though seeing their top sales list, and the games that were on there recently, I suspect it's gone down a good bit. Fact is: Gamestop has done a really great job at alienating its core fanbase: which is Stardock fans. There's a reason Stardock
There are lot of obvious solutions to these problems. FE is quite a bit different than other tile based games in that the world is really REALLY dangerous. It's not like Civ or WOM or what have you where there's an occasional threat. It's more like an obstacle course of threats. The world is out to kill you hard. And since I write the monster AI too, I am doing my best to make sure they're really good at killin

There are things in GC2 that could be made less dull/boring, but it's an overall very good to borderline great game, with some flaws that Brad has mentioned and wished he could fix. I think one of the issues with WOM was that I think the differences between a space game and fantasy game were underestimated.

I'm not a fan of the button design colors myself. I'd rather see a color scheme that matches Stardock's logo, not something that looks like it would be on the 360. Trivial quibble. Will the web updater do pre-release versions of just official? If I don't have to use a client, I probably won't, unless the program client gives a real advantage. The one thing I miss about Impulse is the gra

This is another area where you're at an unfair disadvantage. A human player will leave them unescorted, and reload if they're eaten. It's just human nature: AI's have more fun losing then humans. One turn at a time and recalculating is probably the best chance, followed by giving pioneers good sight radius. Pioneers are largely early game units, so AI times won't be that long in the start of a game. &n

Even if FE isn't great, I'd want Stardock to make a GalCiv III. GalCiv II was an excellent game that holds up very well, but it has some minor flaws. I think Derek and Jon could add to the game in various ways. I could tell with some of the changes in WOM that you were looking and trying to address some things you didn't like about GCII, and I think your ideas would have worked, and I really wish you could have gotten that last patch out l

I think Steam has been good, this isn't me Steam-bashing again. I think the issue is more a fundamental issue with supply in the PC Market. There are tons of games, and the shift to DD means you're not just competing with recent retail games, but the classics. This isn't Valve's fault, it's just the free market. I think this is what is causing the difficulty. It's a lot harder
Quoting Satrhan, reply 102I'm pretty sure I will enjoy playing FE, but are you seriously suggesting we go play a game which's release was so bad it was called 'elemental-like'? The word surreal comes to mind here... There is a reason there are few...very few indie PC games of significant scope being made anymore. It's very very difficult to make them. And it's even harder to release them. &

It would be nice to get the beta next Thursday, but not expecting until another three weeks. An AI quest difficulty tag- yeah, that's probably needed. Maybe a few tags, like type of quest- gathering quests like the Wild Goose Chase you'd want a fast unit doing, whereas battle quests you'd want a strong stack.

Originally there was a refund offer- which was 75% if just for quality, 100% if you had a technical issue.

Randomization is key for longevity. This is a vital feature to me in determining whether a game is good or great.

I'd recommend waiting a) The new updater will be out soon. The FE beta is supposed to be out in around two weeks, and the new client will be out before FE beta is out. It's coming really soon. b) You're supposed to get a discount on FE for buying the original game. If you get WOM ultra-cheap, it may be cheaper to keep it. c) One suggestion- try 4am to download from client-I-refuse-to-name,

Only if you consider allowing the Origin software to take a copy of every file on your hard-drive and let EA do whatever they want to with it.
People allow Steam to do that. Origin has exclusives, and ones mainstream people want, so it has a chance. That's the only way you're going to g

Ships will take a lot of effort to do right, as they'll require another layer of AI, and some expansion. I do want to see it, but I'm willing to wait for the 2nd expansion.
