Another idea: Fantasy General, though that's real super old and requires DOS to run.

Guardians of Graxia perhaps?
Games like WoM tend to appeal primarily to those that are PC enthusiasts who tend to keep their rigs up-to-date as much as finances allow. Five years is a long time and if you are still chugging away with a graphics card powered by a hamster in a wheel then maybe saving up is a good idea. Surely even a moderate upgrade from a 5 to a 3 year old card from e-bay wouldn't break the bank. If Pixel shader 3 halves memory
Something is coming before or at the time of the FE beta, which is scheduled for around Thanksgiving. The Impulse servers are horrible right now, I tried re-DLing GC2 at work, it took 12 hours, and this was in the middle of the night so it wasn't server overload. <

You need to remember that Elemental needs to be playable 10 years into the future as well. Using old tech always has the risk of it becoming incompatible with new hardware. In my opinion the best option is always to use relatively high tech solutions during development.
The odds of Elemental being played 10 years in the future is slim, and al
Those look much better then WOM.
I did think of one problem, combined monster armies. Then again if a spider meets a bandit, they should fight it out, not join together. There should be different monster 'factions' if that is possible.
What a monster does to the town should be a predetermined thing, with some randomness. A spider might eat a few people with a chance of wrecking a building then leave Bandits might drain your treasury, smash a building or two, and lower your population, then respawn somewhere in a few turns (perhaps with more bandits) A dragon might eat a bunch of population, or wreck your town, or who knows Demons mig
Well, I'd like to see platemail lower spellcasting ability personally, and have some magic armor that doesn't but requires different resources (crystals) to make, but that's probably beyond the scope and too late to include. The magic armor shouldn't all be fluffy robes though.
Some of this stuff has made me wish for a feature in the 2nd expansion. I kinda want these creatures/critters spare parts to be usable in Dredmor-style alchemy, with levels learnable with tech, to make armor. This would have to be balanced out though. For example, something like skath hide+ rock spider armor= an adventurer's armor that would be the equivalent of light plate but slightly better.
This is one of those little things that can make a good game very good, or a very good game great. I like this.

monster difficulty should be determined by its type. Animals should be cautious, unless they like eating people. Maybe some monsters like certain things?
Also, the game has heat issues- it actually made my laptop overheat twice. Not even Shogun 2 does that.

I'm not saying they should hype it, I just want information about game mechanics. And just because you accidentally hyped a crappy game, does that mean you have to release the next (awesome) one in secret saying it will give you cancer? There is no logic really. Both strategies are equally stupid. Oh well never mind, I'll just gra

There will be an open beta before release, though the plan I think is to have the game in a higher state of polish in the beta then typical SD releases, to avoid bad PR, which is a very prudent thing to do.
Quoting kryo, reply 21 Quoting Sir_Linque, reply 16They will most likely be available only via Impulse, since it's currently the only distribution method. This thread is two months old, from before Brad announced the new system. Does this means that Stardock games won't be shackled down by Impulse?
Well, you can uninstall Impulse and run Stardock's games just fine.
GoG for GalCiv I would make sense right now, maybe even GalCiv II since those games aren't being updated anymore. Would actually be a nice promotional idea for FE. Remind folks of the good Stardock that's coming back, not the overextended SD that was 2010.
No, not a furry. It's the panda from the Panda bread commercials that gets mad easily. I do know a couple furries, ironically they're from Stardock's neck of the woods- I think Michigan is furryland for some reason. As for the mom and pop places- Gamestop drove them out of business here. We got another place trying (if you live in Central NC, look up Lost Arc Video Games and Arcade- it's good for both, especially for old Sega and SNK st
Consumers do benefit some from a used game market. No Gamestop means the used game market has been eliminated. Companies are not going to pass their benefits onto the consumer.
Nenjin: Their Brick and Mortar is successful right now- but only because of the used game market. That said, I do see a bad end for Gamestop by the end of this decade- once they get locked out of the console market, which I suspect will happen next-gen, they're the next Circuit City. That said, this won't be a win for consumers in the long-term.
