Idle citizenry would find meaning outside of employment, if they didn't need employment to survive. You'd see more folks try to start their own business if there's a lack of options for employment. (this has happened) Maybe some folks would go destructive- this is an experiment that hasn't happened outside of the Roman Empire. I think we're both fearing the same thing here, but attributing the cause to d

True. The results of this will be that the rich will benefit from factor pricing, while the other classes effectively lack that option. This will have very nasty societal impacts- either the poor will win politically and enact disastrously populist policies, or we'll have a true stifling and violent unrest.

It's easily worth $27, ($20 on Steam right now). Given your crtieria, especially so- this game will last you a good while. There are problems, but Stardock has started the post-release patch cycle, and that will improve the game. Most of the problems are balance-related.

The big flaws are - While idle bonuses are completely unfun, Derek is 100% wrong on this. A few non-levelup buildings have this problem as well - There is no thought into what building is best most of the time.

It also applies as businesses try to move their stuff from high-wage Northern states to low-wage Southern states if they're big enough.

Those changes wouldn't be needed, outside of some bug fixes. Just let the MP folks mod the game and play that, and maybe if they need a few things, mod those into a patch. And yes, the more I play this game, the more I feel that many things weren't entirely finished. There's a really ambitious, probably overambitious game, that feels rough with many things seeming obvious choices and many rough spots. Doesn't make the game bad, bu

The level-up traits on the buildings are terribly imbalanced, and Derek's insistance on "while idle" mechanics is terrible. Slums aren't worth it because of the unrest penalty. I'd make it +20% gildar +3 growth +10% unrest to make it useful. Never knew City Grocer was for all units, though it was for city only. City Grocer is now a no-brainer. Pretty much all upgrades are no-brainer choices outside of
I think that perhaps each State's economic circumstances are a bit different. I wonder if increased states rights, and the freedom for different states to pursue different economic systems, could be a step in the right direction?
It wouldn't because you'd have a race to the bottom. We already have some symptoms of that as is.

DLC is ok as long as it's either clearly a value or clearly a ripoff. It's the stuff in the middle that drives folks insane.
Correct, because with each change of management, valuable assets were sold off. Pitifully poor management was the problem, not the union... this time. Unions can be destructive and self serving... my dad's newspaper closed because of Bertrand Powers and the Printer's Union... I'll hate that man forever. But this time with Hostess? Not buying "the union's guilty" theory.
The manageme

If I wanted trolls and things that did not make any sense, I'd look at Homestuck. The funny thing is a board we both read is proving your point exactly. I've seen better quality trolling from FGC Stream Monsters- it's truly pathetic.

I want you guys to drop 32-bit support if it means getting those things. The different lands seems really nice. The folks who bought WOM already have their make-up, it's time to use the 2nd expansion to well, expand. Besides, the folks who can't play it- the game will be there when they upgrade their rigs in future. It's not like this game is going to be obsoleted any time within a decade.
Money is a tool to consume things or to invest in new things. One isn't "better" than the other. They're simply different. I'll bring that back up in a second: The market forces a balance between consumption and investment whether we like it or not. However, the government taking investment capital and forcing it to be used as consumption is a zero-sum game. It not only doesn&#

The payroll tax holiday was entirely for the employees I believe, the Jan 1st tax hikes will not impact employer SS/Medicare taxes. That said, I think SS taxes should apply on incomes over $128k (where I think it is now), and SS should be means-tested, though back SS pay can be granted if needed. Increased taxes can force a marginal company to let employees go, you can't raise taxes without some losses in other areas. The question

While I wouldn't be opposed to be tweaks, I think the game was designed for default-strength sovereigns. I wouldn't mind 2nd Sovereigns kinda like how some factions in FFH had two leaders.

I do suspect this game will have a long tail, though 4X GOTY is a tough call between FE and Warlock (two very different games- and ironically it was Brad's QTT posts that made me change my mind on Warlock- as I was distrusting of Paradox games after a few clunkers and not enjoying CKII at all)

You're right on what money does in a bank- the money from a CD doesn't just go into a bank, it goes into loans, at around a 10:1 ratio. However, a more rapid money multiplier still ends up with the money in the bank, where it then goes into loans. I'm not a fan of Austrian economics at all, it's about as useful as a Hapsburg is today. ^_^ You're absolutely right and I agree with you about the not pissing away money.&nbsp
Quoting Frogboy, reply 120Most people spend nearly everything they earn. And thanks to a union that wouldn't back down even if it cost them their jobs and put a company out of business, we wont be spending it on Twinkies, Ho-Ho's or Ding-Dongs. RIP Hostess. The folks working at Wal-Mart for near minimum wage and taking massive amounts of abuse from management- they're not middle class at all. No idea where some of you guys are getting the idea that any job is middle-class. Nearly every service job out there is lower-class these days, and those are the jobs that are being created. This has been happening since the 90's, and is the "fault" of globalization, not any particular politician. &nb

I know some folks who review games, they simply won't do TBS's because they are too busy with other games. It's better to get few reviews than bad reviews from folks who don't understand your games. The Skullgirls folks were upset at a GDC once because only one of the reviewers there even understood how to do the basic special move in a 2D fighter- so they couldn't get to what made the game good (in their opinion) in a short timeframe.

I prefer the more rapid updates: these days waiting isn't benefitting folks. My suggestion is to let those folks know they can happily not update until 1.1 if they wish fewer updates. They have the option to wait. The only downside of rapid releasing, is that it makes me reluctant to look at mods, but mods will always be there- and the mod I want (a real base game merged mod of fixes/improvements) hasn't been made yet.
