Wow, it's amazing how socialist the world is these days. If a company wants to charge more or change their pricing scheme they are more then welcome to in my opinion. Having the government price fix or force them to use a certain pricing model will just result in one of two things. Either they will go bankrupt because they are unable to support themselves as a company or they will raise the prices for everyone, so those top 10% can e

Honestly, this is the biggest threat to Stardock's business model out there right now.

Just checked and they're available here, so if TWC decides to expand the caps to here I've got my exit plan
They've announced the next markets to get it Greensboro NC, Rochester NY, San Antonio and Austin TX. I already contacted my Congressman on this. Hmm, switch to earthlink.
Which will just get whittled down vs ranged mounted units. Then again in medieval history those were the most dangerous units. Hopefully there will be a counter to that.
As of now, our current plan has the player making two choices when they train a unit... 1. Unit type: Which unit design do I want to train (Common Footsoldiers, Advanced Bowmen, etc). 2. Grouping Type: How large of a squad do I want? A 'Squad' only requires 10 population units, but a 'Company' of 40 troops will last even longer on the battlefield, with a 'Legion' (300 troops) putting up an even better fight in open war.

I choose the PC so that I can make the games I want to make. I'm wasn't trying to imply that you were a PC bigot. I just got the impression that SD was always going to be PC-exclusive, mostly because of your relationship with Microsoft and developer resources. I really wou
Some games really have long-term legs though- think games such as TF2, Civ, maybe GalCiv. For them a 5 yr no-DRM patch isn't as practical as it is for FPS games. Then again, the great games like that tend to get pirated less. Also, you have GOG for those games anyways. (another DDL service that specializes in older games under $10, not really in the same Market as Impulse. Good service for that but needs more older games) &
You can have a good fantasy setting without the Tolkien races. The MUD I play on at work to pass the time (Avendar) has an excellent setting, and no real traditional fantasy creatures. MUDs aren't for everyone, and it's a good low-bandwidth time waster, which is why I play it (and GC2 sometimes) at work.
This is solveable by mods or expansions, if there will be a need. I'm not worried too much.
Well, Stardock could just do the technical stuff, maybe art and leave the ideas to him. Philosophically, there's not a lot of difference on the gameplay end. Also, I think there is a market for it- as there is a huge lack of PC-first fighters (the last one was One Must Fall?) The Stardock model would also work VERY well with this genre. Seriously.
My suggestion: Stardock hires Dave Sirlin to make a fighting game. Will either be a great hit, or a murder trial (Sirlin is difficult to work with, but has some real good ideas)
Timegate's still around? You really do need to ask them to put Kohan: Ahriman's Gift on Impulse.
If you're managing to do so without an internet connection, I must say I'm int
I meant the people who complain about having to be online to activate. WHat does rankle people I think is limited activations, or time-consumption such as Steam DRM.
It`s not about stopping pirate`s, From my understanding. There is no stopping pirate`s. It`s about giving publisher`s "some" protection. It`s really about making it less painful for the "paying" customer`s. Agreed. Let's hope that more and more publishers see the wisdom in that. Though I believe that some in the gaming industry won't see in good eyes a tool that would be easier to crack than the more conv
Really, I always remember getting an email from Stardock, then having to enter it in manually via a cut and paste. Then again, was that only SDC?
Please include Yellow, Red, Orange, Blue, Purple, and Green Power Rings with that decoder ring you showed in that. Oh and an Indigo Staff too ^_^
One issue- and this comes out of sheer laziness. Some Steam users balk at having to enter in the serial and email manually. Perhaps Impulse, should, when you buy a game- enter in those things automatically once it's paid? I know that's lazy, but it would be a convenience (unsure if it's practical) The transferable rights- I wish I could have done that for Sins- good game, but just not for me.
My idea: Size: may or may not be needed with the other stuff Terrain Boundaries: could be a modifier. Hit Points: how much damage the unit takes Attack: How likely a unit is to hit Defense: How likely a unit is to avoid hitting Damage: How much it hurts Resistance: How likely a unit is to save vs spell Morale: The unit's morale Speed: How quickly a unit moves Subordination: How difficult a uni
Maybe have it work like the advisors from EUIII series, but without the AI being able to pick all the advisors in 1/60th of a second.
I have to agree with Jedi as well- but I don't think the AI can handle Dominions 3 type complexity. HP should be a factor as some things are beefier then others, then training and skills shouldn't up HP that much, just skills and saves.
I'd like to see the base starting HP be higher then 1. That might solve some things. Training should improve toughness a bit, but should really effect things like morale, and to-hit chances, as well as saving vs spells if that is in. For mages, training should give spellpower, which improves damage and reduces saving vs spells.
Here's my guess as to what happens: 1) I feel like a big 2-4 will develop. Quite simply, developers/publishers won't want to put their game on all sorts of different platforms. It's a hassle. Also, those sales we see now probably aren't something they want. It's ok for Valve to do with their games since they're the developer, but 3rd-parties don't like their games selling for $5. We're already seeing people saying they'll wait for the 75% o
I think it may be too late for that. The DD wars on general gaming sites are rapidly turning into the PC version of the console wars. The big difference is you can have both without plopping down $300 more then you would normally, as both programs are free. One concern of mine: I really think we're going to see some cutthroat price competition. For long-term profitability you may have to eat some profits to fight Steam's sales. <p
I expect that there will be a beta or alpha build before the one given to the public, I am pretty sure that there will be different betas available to people who have preordered, the first being in June. After all, the game is supposed to hit retail space in something like 18 months. And given Stardock past records, only peole who have preordered will have access to those betas. And one should really look at the OP link
